Telecasters

I've got a Fender Mexican Standard and a custom built thinline, both of which I'm rather fond of. Check out some of the stuff on here.

  • i remember when i was a kid

having a conversation in which we both asserted that teles were just for losers and that anyone cool played strats instead. we were like "hendrix versus springsteen".

now obviously we're indie and much prefer teles.

    thought id share that.

    • I've played Springsteen's Tele

well, one signed by him at least

      yo_soy_welshmun @alcxxk | 7 May '06, 11:57 | X
  • I have a US tele

I love everything about it. I think there's something wrong though, the top E string goes out of tune above the 5th fret. Anyone know why this might be? I've tried changing the strings.

    • Intonation?

Adjust the nut at the bridge until the 12th fret natural harmonic is the same pitch as playing the 12th fret normally.
At least i think thats what you do..

      yes_ @colonol_k | 7 May '06, 10:50 | X
      • I'll give it a try, cheers

I can play the thing, but when it comes to the mechanics of it I'm a non-starter.

        colonol_k @yes_ | 7 May '06, 11:09 | X
  • I have a mexican tele

But i changed the pickups to custom shop nocasters. Its great, though i would eventually like to get an american one.

    yes_ | 7 May '06, 10:49 | X
  • .

my dream tele is one of those bound edge sunburst '62 reissue ones...awesome looking guitar

Prices of originals are a sick joke- music ground have an esquire (one pick up version of the tele) for £11'000!

Us reissues are over a grand too

    grockle | 7 May '06, 11:53 | X
    • Wow

That would be my ideal guitar aswell ! How very good.

Nowadays you can tell if a band is either going to be really good, or really bad, if they use teles.

      yes_ @grockle | 7 May '06, 11:56 | X
  • I have a fake Tele.

But I've never played a better one.

    http://theogb.com/archive/theo_tele.jpg

It has two humbuckers. The bridge one is coil-tapped so that if you flick the smaller switch you get a single coil thin sound. The neck pickup is much more powerful and gives a really strong bass sound.

It was made in the 70s by some Japanese dude apparently.

    • THAT IS COOL

I love battered and bashed up teles.

      yes_ @TheoGB | 7 May '06, 12:20 | X
      • The only nice Tele I've ever seen is

my mate's that he customised himself. It's fucking sexy as.

        Check it out:

        • I like your tele Theo

it has character. Your mates is nice as well, moker

Any excuse to show my thinline I suppose

          http://www.flickr.com/photos/cadd/28821354/in/set-95820/

Also really like my Mexican Fender, underated. If any of you get the chance of a Japanese Fender/Squier or a Japanese Tokai Breezysound tele, go for it, great guitars

          cadd @moker | 7 May '06, 15:02 | X
          • Everyone knows...

Squiers are the way forwards, cheap cheap cheap.

            I_Are_Scientist @cadd | 7 May '06, 15:05 | X
          • Teles are

the only guitar you would ever need really. You can get a huge variety of tones from them. If i buy another guitar its probably going to be a tele.
Or some really old guitar. Just because its old.
I really must get a job...

            yes_ @cadd | 7 May '06, 15:07 | X
          • You're giving Guitars away???

I'm interested, been meaning to buy a new one for a while.

            I_Are_Scientist @cadd | 7 May '06, 15:08 | X
            • Sold three

and gave two away to family. Have about ten now and will be holding onto them.

              cadd @I_Are_Scientist | 7 May '06, 15:47 | X
          • I like that a lot

Also the clever way you have the coil tap sorted.

            TheoGB @cadd | 8 May '06, 12:13 | X
  • oh jesus

    • It'd be great

      if it was that size

      cadd @Anschul | 7 May '06, 20:44 | X
  • I used to be

a strat man but have learned to love both.

Here's a couple of photos of a couple of my strats. The red ones a mid 80s Japanese Squier hotrod,
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/cadd/4022023/in/set-95820/
the natural one is a Fender Mexican assembled/US parts 70s reissue and is a stunning guitar for what I paid for it at 6 months old, mint condition, £300 with a brand new hard case.
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/cadd/7062845/in/set-95820/
Nearly bought a Japanese Fender strat a couple of weeks ago, exactly the same neck and body as my red one except maple board and really beat up. Managed to restrain myself.
