Is there any point in posthumously releasing an LP if the band has already split?
I'm in two minds...
help me out
Not so sure about the new Grandaddy...
but it's a little short of great
cos if it isnt, dont. cos youre not investing in anything, innit
not in the short term but perhaps in the long term - you can never tell anyway...
but there is a message to it all...
and I'd be 'guaranteed' a publishing contract + advance if and when it's released though that's an industry loan rather than profit - it's just so frustrating to listen to something that's so close to being something to be proud of but annoys the hell out of you in places
then again, it's equally frustrating to not get any feedback from it being in the public domain
who can't release things until they're totally totally happy with them but I'm really never totally totally happy with ANYTHING and subsequently my output is slim even though I'm fairly prolific
I just can't make up my mind on this one
put more tracks up on the myspace (this is giants, yes?)
write out a little bio here
i upload a band page for DiS
and at the end of two weeks, if you have an average rating of above, say, 8, you release it, yes?
with a razor sharp mind like that your dissertation should get you a first
sounds like a plan
two weeks eh? is that long enough? too long?
but i imagine you want to make a decision assap.
I'm on it
and I'm fully prepared for a slating
and you aren't worried about being made bankrupt then I'd release it, definitely
if it is of noteworthy artistic merit.
that's quite subjective
If there was some lost William Burroughs voice recording, or some Jeff Buckley 4-track stuff, or something like that, then lets go.
If Silver Sun had a collection of b-sides that never saw the light of day, then nobody gives a fuck, and they should probably just make them available for free for those who want them.
This links releases to supply and demand though a little as well as content.
burroughs or buckley I'm afraid to say...
you can judge for yourself with some demos here:
Giants Of DeSign formed in Stockholm, Sweden in December of 2003 and despite a handful of demo songs being played on Swedish National radio, by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6music and being featured in the American magazine 'Paper' they split in October 2005 without having had any releases.
A 12 track album entitled 'Man Made Men' was recorded before their split, some early demos of which appear on their myspace page.
and cheers for the 7/10
I really dig the sound, Anschul.
Do it for me, if not your own mother... x
I do think it's worth releasing... it might actually lead to other things/projects musically for you.
but I realised since this thread that the process these days involves a significant amount of whoring yourself on the internet which is fairly soul destroying and desperate - we'll see
as for my mother, she couldn't give a rat's arse and has forever been on at me to 'get a proper job' (as if) despite the fact that (or maybe because of it) her own brother is a multi-millionaire record producer
also, I'm thinking about just taking the songs and doing them solo Billy Bragg style or mashing them all into ableton and doing them Freq Nasty/Rennie Pilgrim/Les Rythmes Digitales style
I'm just too indecisive...
1. whoring on the internet... we are all GUILTY of that, Meester. But yes, tiresome...
2. Pffffffffft. Family. We can't pick 'em, can we?
3. Ableton.. learning how to use it myself right now.. it's amazing, innit?
I like FreQ as a person (have met him a few times before) but not really into his music - feel there is something missing although most ingredients are there - my friend VJ-d and produced his FreQ Nasty Video Experience which is amazing.. (Cindy Lee - plugg away here for her)... Billy Bragg, Rennie Pilgrem and Les Rythmes Digitales... oh YES.
Tuff, tho, innit.
I like your work as it stands, Anschul.. I'll need to get copies of it somehow when I enter the ditital age mah-self..
I'll take all of this into consideration
I got distracted by university challenge and the discussing merits or otherwise of internet supermarket shopping.
Tonight, I'll listen. Probably
'slur' them artistically then I say yes....it was the original intention for it to be heard by people, that was why they put the albumn together, if all other things are equal (doesnt damage reputation, doesnt cause royalty/copyright squabbles, doesnt make a loss for yourself) then YES, someone might really like it
having discussed it with the other members, the view is that if we did put it out it would be 'incognito' ie a completely uncredited album (all the details would be logged with prs/mcps or STIM as it's called over here) so there are no reputations at stake - gah, I should just toss a coin
