My iPod just wiped itself and my computer is failing to recognise it when I plug it in.
You should just spend all day humming to yourself in place of the iPod JB. It's more fulfilling, and you constantly surprise yourself with what you find yourself humming. FUN.
Go into My Computer, and make sure you can view hidden files.
Copy all of the music from a folder called ipod control/music or something (the files all have random four letter names) and dump them on your hard drive.
Restore iPod to factory settings using the otherwise-useless CD they provide.
Then put your music back onto the new, blank library, and then update it back onto the 'pod.
It's annoying. Mine's done it twice.
I just re-read your original post.
Do you mean it won't even recognise it the pod itself, meaning you can't even access it though my computer?
burial at sea?
or in a shoebox in the back garden next to the cat?
sorry, that wasnt helpful was it.
NOT SUCH A GREAT MELDING OF AESTHETICS AND FUNCTIONALITY NOW, IS IT MR CORPODRONE?
have a hug
It's just a glitch I reckon requiring a moment at the "Genius Bar" on Regent Street... I guess I'll just have to read today instead... going for tests at hospital today though so I really wanted music.
Ooops look at the time.
now i actually feel bad instead of pretend bad :(
Well I don't exactly feel like a bowl of peaches today either. My iPod broke, I'm hung over, and hospital sucked, there were confused old people everywhere and the nurse was a bitch who wouldn't talk to them for a second even though they were clearly distressed and didn't know what was going on, and the whole place stank of antiseptic and I got a sudden flash of "OMG this is what it's like to be old, confused and lost in a stinky old hospital ALONE".
Tonight = Pagan Wanderer Lu, and he's brilliant, so I'm counting on the gig to cheer me up.
3 Times. now im out of warrenty and cant get it replaced or fixed. That isnt the guy in the official mac shop's problem apparently.
Including Apple Martin - just you wait...
It always makes me chuckle walking in/past an Apple store and seeing the help desk swamped with angry consumers
So I guess I'll see.
"that's not my problem so there's no point in talking about it"
I meant the guy you were standing with.
and the Mac calls it an "unrecognised volume" and tries to format it as a normal hard-disk.
Luckily, all my music is backed up, but I sense a trip to the Apple shop...
Mine thinks it's funny to forget it has the music on it. If I switch it on, there's nothing there, and in iTunes, there's nothing there. But the files are all still there if you go through my computer, I was able to save all my stuff by just putting it on hard drive, and then back again after I format the pod.
Apparantly it happens because I dont have USB 2.0 but I think it just has issues with Windows.
thats it, just fucked.
tapes the other day?
I've had that brainers - I went on DiS and asked a geek what to do.
"The attached iPod model is not supported by this application."
with my discman (circa 1996)
but don't want to know what you use as a music player. I want to know how to fix my iPod.
what music player to get. i need one bad and this thread has helped me to decide not to get an ipod. so thanks!
They are great. Just make sure you get the most recent generation as they're more reliable that the old-style ones.
but are twitchy and prone to problems after a certain amount of time, so always buy an extended warranty.
duh @ me
i just decided not to. do you know just how indecisive i am? this could set me back months and i need one now. :(
i'm edging towards a creative though. they don't seem to have half as many problems as ipods.
then Creatives are a good choice. I have a Mac, so an ipod makes more sense to me.
i do have a pc. thanks for the tip!
You should get the bill for it within 28 days.
plus third party fire and theft insurance.
and although easy to use, my Zen has broken over 3 times and I've had it less than a year (I do take good care of it)
That and the earphones are of course crap and break really easily.
But I love it anyway.
i give up. :-/
or failing that, find a lute-playing minstrel to follow you around all day.
prettiest by far. hasn't broken. but the software is utter shite.
i hate sony software. to be honest i think that lute-playing minstrel is my best bet at the moment. at least he won't break in three months time. i hope.
To cover Minstrel's Finger and other sinister sounding ailments.
I have one of these Sony CD player jobbies that can read MP3 files, it's quite good actually and a lot cheaper then a MP3 player and potentially the storage is limitless as I just make more CD-R's.
You can get about 15-20 albums of good musical quality on a CD-R.
The software is even quite user-friendly by Sony standards!
My H340 now looks like a BRICK compared to the modern ones. HEEE-larious.
Still, it records live which is AWESOME beyond the call of duty.
my super-cool dictaphone does that :-P
I think it's a little more complicated than that :-/
except the software always decides to give up halfway through burning a cd so i have yet to experience the wonder of having a squillion songs on one cd-r. grrr...
i should have given it back...but too late now! still i've dropped the player countless times and it still works.
it always works when I make a CD...
there's zero chance of me buying the sony mp3 player.
i was masking my ignorance of any music playing device made in this millennium with a thin veil of poor humour.
if i could help i would :(
Those beautiful halcyon days of having every CD I own in my pocket seem to have drawn to a close, for now. I had CD players and they all broke too eventually... just not quite so soon, and for nowhere near as much money...
I'm gonna google the error message and see what the rest of the world is saying.
Best track to bury it with???
my ipod just isn't working. like i charge it, and it's all charged up and working, but it won't play anything. it's bloody annoying. do u know how good the ipod store is at dealing with repairs etc??
is it 12 mths or longer?
You can pay for extra.
I didn't have the money at the time.
Well, I guess they are cheaper nowadays...??
God, shitty Apple, eh? I wonder if they all have 12 mth life spans so they can make cash.. Disposable i-Pods, you know?
Lucky your music is backed up tho - imagine how shite you would feel then...???
*looking at bright side of shitty side
It's on it's third one now and I've only had it for 2 and a half years.
When the rest of it fucks up I won't be getting another one.
I never pay for extra warranty. It's just a way to get cash out of you, surely?
it could be worth it with iPod's seeing as so many of them seem to break just after the 12 month warrenty runs out.
Then again sod's law says that no matter how long the warrenty is it will break the week after it runs out.
why add extra money on top of that?
I'd have a new pod now.
i feel your pain. 12 months have passed and my damn ipod is busted. i only hope the apple store can fix it and it won't cost me the earth. it's sooo annoying though. will have to carry a bagful of cds again, i guess. has anyone got an mp3 player that actually works well, esp after 12month mark??
battery is fucked. it lasts about the length of a locust album.
