God Bless Our Glorious Queen!

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 39 replies 18:38, 20 April '06

I think its disgusting how much some people praise the queen. The media seem to go crazy whenever its her birthday, like ITV, doing all these programs 'spanning the life of the great monarch'.

What's great about her? The newsreader said yesterday, "For over 50 years, she has served the British people."

How exactly has she served us? She sits in a palace getting her arse wiped and generally just rotting.

Its like the people that go crazy when she comes to town. I'd rather watch Bargain Hunt than see her boring face. When we went to London with primary school, we waited for two hours in the rain, on that long road outside the palace, to catch a glimpse of her in her car. She waved at us and everyone went crazy.

I don't understand why.

    • technically

they bring in more than they take out. still rather they got nothing from us and had to live on their investments...

  • I don't like the way people act like they owe so much to someone

who is one of the richest people in the world, for doing absolutely nothing, but being related to a monarch.

    wrightylew | 20 Apr '06, 18:41 | X
  • the queen

is a rubber-stamp and nothing more. she has no real constitutional duty since everything is done for her by the PM, the Privy Council or the Lords.

    • and i too am

sick of seeing the media fawning all over her- get a damn life, people!

      chrispy @chrispy | 20 Apr '06, 18:46 | X
      • Don't forget

she has the onerous task of giving Royal Assent to Bills & dishing out some honours!

Seriously though, Royal Family = a big fat waste of time, space & cash. An anachronism that should have finished at Cromwell.

        Engels @chrispy | 20 Apr '06, 18:51 | X
        • haha

yeh,all that effort to sign on the dotted line, and 'pass' a Bill.

          chrispy @Engels | 20 Apr '06, 18:59 | X
        • Cromwell was a cunt

though. this in no way invalidates your point. just saying.

          ex_cynic @Engels | 20 Apr '06, 21:34 | X
  • I thought that the Royal Family was becoming less 'influential' and 'important' to this country

then Di died. I was quite wrong

    • They can't be compared.

Diana did shit loads of work for charity all over the place, all the time. She had a lot of deserved respect. The queen has never done anything of any worth to anyone.

      wrightylew @yo_soy_welshmun | 20 Apr '06, 18:51 | X
      • Were you suprised at the reaction of the country though?

        yo_soy_welshmun @wrightylew | 20 Apr '06, 18:52 | X
      • i'd imagine the queen

does as much for charity as princess diana, just that diana was a media whore.

        neil_mac @wrightylew | 20 Apr '06, 18:53 | X
        • As if.

The moment the queen goes to visit some old person who's broken their leg, its in the paper. She doesn't do half as much as Diana did.

          wrightylew @neil_mac | 20 Apr '06, 18:54 | X
          • thats exactly what diana did

but she used things like sick children to get the publics attention..

I hate Diana more than all of them put together

            neil_mac @wrightylew | 20 Apr '06, 18:56 | X
            • But Di

represented rebellion against the Royal Family for many people. And the proles love a soap opera with such a storyline.

            • all women are actually infertile

we all come from the queen's eggs. when she dies the country's fucked.

            • the problem with the royal family nowadays

is they dont do any gameshows anymore, i mean its a royal knockout was fine, but i want to see them on takeshi's castle or gladiators, i feel this would be worth taxpayers money

              sharp_yet_blunt | 20 Apr '06, 18:53 | X
              • HAHAHAHA.

Aww, that's the sort of thing I came out with in Year 9.

              • But

                what would that achieve?

                doubtful @gardenhead | 20 Apr '06, 20:39 | X
                • We'd all have like a pound.

                  So I like it.

                  • True...

I'd much rather have a multipack of Mars Bars then have the Royal Family on the throne.

that they contribute more then they take is bollocks.

                tom_from_sparks | 20 Apr '06, 20:39 | X
                • it's a shame charles adopts causes

that are already ridiculed/ignored by the people who matter (i.e. global warming) because it just gives his detractors even more ammo.

he's still a wanker though. plus, the queen will blatantly outlive him - she's had bionic parts fitted. william doesn't even want to be king, so it's elizabeth forever!

they should just let me be king. i'd put on a sweet cape and run to westminster, dissolve parliament without warning and do a shit in diana's fountain.

the Queen makes is actually quite surprising

Way more than there are days in the year, anyhoo

                    • the queen does

more work than people on DiS i reckon, she has a very busy schedule of meetings etc generally which most of them won't be personal

                      Hardly sitting on her arse

Besides the various reasons for the continuation of the monarchy; such as the prevention of presidential and other forms of dictatorship (pretty much the only dictator we have had is Cromwell, who came to power when we...um replaced the monarchy), the fact that they DO bring in more money than they take out, the fact that as they are apolitical they can serve without bias the whole country etc; who would you rather have as head of state, The Queen or Tony Blair.

Yes. I am pretty much a committed monarchist
