Whatcha all think, then?

  • that means you like your chav

girls with a bit of posh.

I thought it pwned. the writing was just as good as the last series. the right mix of intrigue and scary and humour. what is the secret the face of boe will impart? omg!

plus david tennant > christopher eccleston

    restlessboy | 15 Apr '06, 21:04 | X
    • Yeah that was true

He's much more 'doctor' like, though I did miss Ecclestone's slightly jarring style at times.

Tennant is certainly able to pull the humour off and it wasn't quite so dodgy in this episode either.

Also, I thought the cat makeup was AWESOME!

      TheoGB @restlessboy | 15 Apr '06, 21:07 | X
      • eccleston

was kind of crap. when he was angry he just looked like someone's dad getting cross at a barbecue and the 'zany' humour seemed a little forced. he was best at the quiet solemn bits.

the scripts carried it though. now i think they've got an actor worthy of them.

        restlessboy @TheoGB | 15 Apr '06, 21:09 | X
  • It was very good

    I like Tennant!

    • It's alright... I would have too.

Tennant was good, but he does seem to come from the 'frown and shout when there's an intense moment' school of acting. Which reminded me a bit of Sylvester McCoy.

      Werewolves next. CGI-alicious.

      Teepee_uk @I_Are_Scientist | 15 Apr '06, 22:17 | X
  • am i alone

in preferring eccleston? tennant certainly looks the part but is far far too shouty. I'm sure he'll settle down though.

billie piper however is proving herself to be an absolute revelation as an actress. her zoe wanamaker impression is very entertaining.

i also think that russell t is overrated as a writer: ideas yes, execution and dialogue cheesy as HELL.

    keveddy | 15 Apr '06, 22:19 | X
    • I prefer Tennant...

and I've already made my feelings re. Piper very clear.
Dialogue is fairly cringeworthy at times.

      I_Are_Scientist @keveddy | 15 Apr '06, 22:22 | X
    • I think that was Zoe Wannamaker dubbing onto her, wasn't it?

      I assumed it was..

      TheoGB @keveddy | 17 Apr '06, 11:59 | X
  • As an ex-Whovian,

I'm surprised to say I liked Eccleston better. I thought he brought a whole new dimension (In Space) to the character. Tennant seems to have taken it back a step. He's no Pat Troughton as far as the humour's concerned and some of the shouty bits seemed rather forced. I think the way Ecclestone handled it was unlike any of his predecessors, but Tennant is clearly trying to bring back "the old magic" or something. He's enjoying it too much! Also, I'm suspicious of him because he is Scottish and has affected an English accent for no apparent reason.. All the previous actors used their own "voice" and I liked that as they all had distinctive tones. What's wrong with a Scottish Doctor, anyway? Sylvester McCoy was Scottish! Piper was excellent as always!

    BobbyGrindrod | 15 Apr '06, 23:59 | X
    • It's a pretty good English accent though...

in that I couldn't automatically tell he was putting it on.
I have to stop posting on this thread, I'm making myself look like quite a fanatic.

      I_Are_Scientist @BobbyGrindrod | 16 Apr '06, 00:02 | X
      • It is an amazing accent!

But I like the idea of the actors being "THE DOCTOR" in real life! The others all are to a certain extent...

        BobbyGrindrod @I_Are_Scientist | 16 Apr '06, 00:08 | X

        • That's a BIT of a

sweeping statement. I quite like the new Doctor Who! David Tennant seems more suited to the role than Chris Ecclestone was.

          icedgemuk @BrimfulOfAsher1989 | 16 Apr '06, 00:14 | X
          • That's a sweeping satement too!

Oh you put "seems" so I'll let you off.

            • Haha

Thank you! In a few weeks I might be wanting Ecclestone back...We'll see

                  TheoGB @shadyadie | 17 Apr '06, 12:00 | X
                  • actually

there was very little story in this episode, which is why it was just 'good' in my books. so there.

omg. he was on 'ready steady cook'. tennant + food?!?!! that would've been more like porn if i didn't have to throw stuff at my monitor every time 'ainslie' is on screen.

                    shadyadie @TheoGB | 17 Apr '06, 13:31 | X
                    • ps. you'll notice i wrote 'monitor' there

                        • actually, i've deleted it now

              • well, the theme music's fine

but the in-programme music at the start seemed to feel like it would be more at home in 'casanova'.

                shadyadie | 17 Apr '06, 13:56 | X
                • it was ace!

Theo, it definitely wasn't Zoe Wannamaker dubbed onto Billie. Billie is just pretty ace. It was totally great, especially the cat make-up. And although I disagreed with Adie before, I have ot admit that I was wrong, and that David Tennant is HOTT. Why doesn't he have his own accent though?

                  nice_squirrel @shadyadie | 17 Apr '06, 14:00 | X
                  • Yeah, I remember us talking about the accent before

It deffo should be Scottish. Oh well...

I wasn't sure about the voice. It sounded really good but I wasn't sure about how they did it.

Like I say, I much preferred her as 'Cassandra'. I'm sure that makes me a bad person...

                    TheoGB @nice_squirrel | 17 Apr '06, 14:06 | X
                  • yeah

he should be using his own accent. it's hott. really don't know why he has to put on the english one. i mean, sylvester mccoy got away with it...

one of my friends recently got a radio controlled K9. we're going to set him to battle with out daleks soon. omg.

how old am i again? never mind.

              • yay!

david tenant is superb. the entire cassandra plot was unnecessary, and the ending makes no sense. but yay anyway. next weeks looks superb.
