    • I get this

I just exercise or listen to Yesterday In Parliament on R4 - these cures do work I find, along with being knocked out cold by a hardy punch

      • Exercise is what I tried last night

got up and did Yoga in the living room at 3.30am!
        My housemate things I'm mad

        that made me laugh.

I think it is a crying shame that all over the counter medicines these days are non-drowsy. I don't want to use heavy machinery, I just want to sleep.

  • speaking as the expert in this field

all i can say is drinking lots and staying up until about 3 o'clock was the only thing guaranteed to work.

    • I used to

be really bad. I'd not sleep, then worry that I wasn't sleeping, then consequently become even more insomniac-iacal (or something).

Now I just think if I'm not going to sleep I may as well do something productive like read, or write letters - takes my mind of the fact that I'm not asleep, and then before I (don't) know it, I'm asleep.

      • alcohol apparently makes you sleep less well

cannabis will work better but you won't be able to get up.

I suggest more exercise during the day or something

        • I'm hoping that going home this weekend means

          that I'll get some sleep!

    • Insomnia

Before bed, drink something like a cup of hot milk... Or Valerium tea. Or Cammomile tea. Try and do things before bed that are really relaxing, like a hot bath or something. If you wake in the middle of the night, try not to stimulate yourself with tv, exercise, or reading... just stay calm, and if you can't sleep, then another cup of Valerium.
Sometimes, tho, we don't need as much sleep at certain tims of year as we think, so maybe your body clock is telling you that you are ok???
Hope it's not stress - I had insomnia once badly through stress.. it ain't fun.
Go to a health shop and get herbal teas and some kind of additional remedy.

      • Avoid eating after 9pm and drinking alcohol in the night, or smoking ciggies

any stimulant at that time is not great.. and regular bedtimes habits too.
I sound like Grandma Rose today, don't I?

          • good idea

just be prepared for lots of lonely sleepless men calling you up in the middle of the night asking for "advice".

            • Ha ha. I'd give real advice, dont you worry!!
