    • This is a genuine thread which came from a non genuine place in my head

But I am a genuine fan of comics - Manga is awesome... But I also love Aqua Man and all the traditional characters who formed Super Friends from the Justice League...

  • Same here.

Especially when I was around 13/14.
We watched the Street Fighter animated movie again last night, then some Tank Police for old times sake.

    • I watched AKIRA for the first time a few weeks ago

Hadn't seen it since I was about 19 and at uni smoking a lot of pot... It still freaked me out.. completely straight and drug free - quite psychadelic...

      Rose-Kitten @tom_from_sparks | 28 Mar '06, 16:36 | X
  • Mm i've just been watching anime

    :):)

    YAYYYYY

Has anyone ever read the manga of Akira?

    RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:36 | X
    • Yep.

      It's great isn't it?

I need to buy more anime, but I need more money. Some of the artwork is amazing.

      tom_from_sparks @RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:37 | X
      • i need more anime

play.com do some ace stuff cheap sometimes, have a browse of:

        http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=gennav&page=offers&r=R2&p=37&g=51

cowboy bebop: the movie is £5.99, which is an absolute BARGIN.

        guntrip @tom_from_sparks | 28 Mar '06, 16:40 | X
        • I haven't seen...

          Cowboy Bepop in years!

My mate sold most of his manga videos though. We have a few now though from charity shops.

          tom_from_sparks @guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 16:42 | X
          • i've still not actually seen the end of the TV show

but it's an ace ace ace series with a lot of atmosphere, and the movie is absolutely gorgeous.

            guntrip @tom_from_sparks | 28 Mar '06, 16:43 | X
    • yes, it's great but quite time-consuming to get through

i love blood: the last vampire

      commandercool @RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:37 | X
    • the manga of akira is

quite possibly the best work of fiction i've ever read. whenever i read it i get totally lost in it and end up reading the whole thing in about three days.

      guntrip @RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:38 | X
      • does it

        make the film make sense?

        RockNRollMassacre @guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 16:40 | X
        • kindof.

the manga goes on a lot further and has a lot more to the story, but it does allow you to make a little bit more sense of the film.

          guntrip @RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:42 | X
  • anime, please

    good stuff:

    neon genesis evangelion
    gasaraki
    martian sucessor nadescio
bubblegum crisis / bgc 2040 (but not bubblegum crash)
    serial experiments lain
    boogiepop phantom
    tenchi muyo OVA series
    el-hazard

    plus a lot MORE. YEAH.

    guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 16:37 | X
    • Patlabor

      Guyver

      And I like Bubblegum crash!

      tom_from_sparks @guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 16:39 | X
    • i'm working my way through

      Evangelion at the moment

I'm also slightly addicted to a really cute Ghibli film called The Cat Returns :)

      RockNRollMassacre @guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 16:39 | X
      • i watched evangelion when i was

16 and i've pretty much on-off obsessed with it ever since. one of the most amazing works of art i've ever watched, in all seriousness.

        guntrip @RockNRollMassacre | 28 Mar '06, 16:41 | X
        • it's absolutely amazing

and well what you said :):)

        • I used to have an ace Bubblegum Crash T-shirt

but I lost it at Reading :(

How the hell do you lose clothes in a tent?!

          nice_squirrel @commandercool | 28 Mar '06, 16:47 | X
          • Maybe you confused it with your tent

have you checked your tent bag?

            bobbygeorge @nice_squirrel | 28 Mar '06, 16:48 | X
            • it was in 2001

if it's in there, it's hiding.

              nice_squirrel @bobbygeorge | 28 Mar '06, 16:49 | X
          • i don't know, but

i bet alcohol was involved SOMEHOW ;)

            guntrip @nice_squirrel | 28 Mar '06, 16:50 | X
            • Azumanga Diaoh is fun too, and

if you're into freaky weird stuff, go and read some of the FLCL manga, or, if you're genuinly demented, find an import copy of the series off eBay or wherever and watch it. It will blow your mind, I guarentee it.

              Murder @guntrip | 28 Mar '06, 18:20 | X
              • pokemon, yes

  • i loved akira and a couple of other little sci-fi bits

but i haven't really explored much manga - recommendations ?

    soapy | 28 Mar '06, 18:28 | X
    • Read the entire thread

There's more than enough for you to google and get started on.

      Rose-Kitten @soapy | 28 Mar '06, 18:29 | X
      • i just finished watching evangelion today!!

and im confused. i know it was amazing. and some of the battles during the end of evangelion (esp the aerial attack on the geo-front) were mindblowing. but im obviously a bit confused.

i recommend yakitate japan- its v.funny.
Also Fist of the North Star. But make sure its the series!!
