Do you leave your PC on all the time?

Meaning, when you go out do you switch it off or do you leave it switched on and connected to the net?

I never switch mine off, but then i remotely control mine from work and i also use it as an FTP server.

Jesus, who do i think i am? Theo?

  • My home PC goes off when not in use

because I just couldn't be arsed doing that remote shit.

My work one stays on. I just lock it and turn the monitor off.

    This is because

    1) I used to have SETI@Home running on it but BOINC took the fun away somehow and then I started getting .net. While I was only using it to connect to the AS/400 there was just tonnes of spare processing power.

    2) if I need to work from home I have to remote desktop to it so I need to have it on for that.

  • turn it off

both work and home when not in use. no need to have them on, and it's a terrible waste of electricty.

    • But in Hibernation mode

      it uses hardly any power.

      marcofella @guntrip | 16 Mar '06, 10:43 | X
      • "hardly any" = less than none, then?

        • Whenever

I'm not at home I switch my laptop off. I'm always worried that it might explode and burn the house down.

I tend to keep my PC in work on because each time I switch it off all my contacts disappear from our internal instant messager and it's a pain in the arse to add them again.

      • Work insist that we leave our PC's on, they update them overnight. The home PC gets turned off infrequently
