also, using the word 'smorgasboard' means the review is automatically good. its a review enhancer, like a swear-word is a sentence enhancer.

I don't think there's a hard n fast rule, but since it's a single noun it should be hyphenated or spelt as a single word.
I write it as a single word, like 'bassline', for example.
that's what editors are for :)
up to the editor. they are there to correct mistakes but they won't be very impressed if there are any in the copy. check what the house-style is and use that.
music reviews are absolutely pointless.
but their use is limited. they will never be a substitute for hearing the music. but there is far too much music for you to listen to it all. so reviews act as a filter.
