if i sell alcohol to a man, knowing full well he is an alcoholic...
What do you think?
alcoholism is one of the saddest illnesses on the planet
so feel good for yourself
I don't mind my clothes smelling of smoke...
The ironic thing is that by not giving booze to an alcoholic, the shock to the body could kill him/her. Therefore serving him/her booze will erm...
save his life
For severe, chronic, alcaholism, you cannot just stop drinking. The body cant deal with it, so the alcaholic needs to be weaned off gradually
that's not strictly true, i.e. if you're an alcoholic and you stop drinking you will die, but it's a total physical dependency and when it's really severe people are actually drinking to soothe tremendous pain. it's not nice watching an alcoholic going cold turkey. hey ho, this is cheerful! anyway i would say don't feel guilty about selling them alcohol - they'll get it somehow anyway. it's just sad
I work in a spar shop.
But i know the guy is an alcoholic...
he want to destroy himself, good for him.
And you probably will sell to many people that are alcoholic but that you don't know...
he has a choice
if you are in the wrong then so is anyone who manufactures or sells alcohol (or for that matter turns a blind eye to addicts in their everyday life) because for one not all alcoholics are easily visible.
maybe the wrongness lies in the fact that 'you should treat others as you would treat yourself'. - if you got into such a state - basically killing yourself - would you want to be helped on the way? Similarly imagine if this alcoholic was your mother/father/friend - would you want someone serving them when they are obviously only damaging themeselves? In fact it may even be illegal to serve people who are shit faced. Isn't it illegal to be drunk on licsensed premises?
I have no problems with serving him.
If he wants it, it's his own lookout...
I thought about that as well...
There is a hugely fat family that comes in, and as i shovel their assorted unhealthy foods into a bag; i think "Man, you guys are so gonna have heart attacks and die...."
so you're let off the hook.
