  • I once went down there to use the snooker club

was quite nice. I always like how the train goes over that viaduct bit and there's a pyramid type thing.

    • ah the CIS pyramid

yet another classic stockport building, better than big ben and all that maloney. plus with a little bit of paint and a large ladder, it could easily be converted into the new DiS headquarters
*runs off to local hardware store*

  • I'm not

from there and I don't live there. but I work in Reddish (which is technically stockport). Reddish is one massive shithole. It's like 2000 years of culture never happened.

    • reddish

is near bredbury and romily aint it so if there anything to go by then it can't be too good

      • im from

        macclesfield

  • ...

I've got one mate who lives in Reddish and another who lives just up the road from Stockport station, but I've only ever wandered into the town centre by accident once, and when me and a mate wanted to find a Wetherspoons for some cheap food after getting off the train at Stockport station.
INTERESTING FACT: As we waited at the station for our return journey, me and my mate saw Craig Cash, aka Dave from the Royle Family also waiting on the platform.

    • oh yeah

i work part time in a supermarket *blushes in shame* and he always comes in, infact i'd call him a regular, he lives in hazel grove. there are infact a few famous people who live/come from stockport. Mr Scruff for example

      phil_t @bagsy54 | 14 Feb '06, 11:42 | X
      • Ah Hazel Grove!

I used to work for the Stockport Express - oh yes. My "patch" was Hazel Grove and Offerton. Made damn sure I lived in Manchester though.
Can I add that Brinnington is possibly the worst estate in Western Europe. I once had to lie on the floor of the bus as we passed through while the driver put his foot down and we ran a gauntlet of stones and half bricks from the local kids.

        Durutti @phil_t | 14 Feb '06, 11:46 | X
        • that bus route was stopped

but they are now starting it again. don't know why. but thats stockport logic for you. did you know that stockport college is getting a £50million makeover, and im going there next year for an art foundation courese so it will be a building site...cunts

      • are

any stockonians going to see the new young pony club at the bierkellar on the 22nd? ill be there, if thats an incentive, actually if you find that an incentive then i dont really want you to be there!

        phil_t @phil_t | 14 Feb '06, 11:46 | X
        • Stockonians?

I used to be forced to right Stopfordians. If anything in Stockport needs a mulit-million quid makeover its the Mersey Way. That or a few tonnesof TNT.

            • they could also do with investing in a good football team

county are soon going to be non league. i think stopfordian is probably the correct term, i was just making one up. there is not one place in stockport that is good, you are constantly running the risk of being knifed. what pubs do the stopfordians on this site frequent?

              phil_t @Durutti | 14 Feb '06, 12:01 | X
              • Little known fact about Stockport:

It has the largest income gap between its richest residents and its poorest in the whole north west. I live in Heaton Moor, which is getting all Didsbury now, loads of yuppie apartments going up and wine bars and stuff. But Brinnington and Edgeley are apparently still waiting for Thatcher to go.

                Parsefone @phil_t | 14 Feb '06, 14:54 | X
                • I go through

                  heaton moor every day.

it seems nice. quite deli-ish. if compare that with reddish about two minutes down the road you can see your point.

                  restlessboy @Parsefone | 14 Feb '06, 14:56 | X
                  • I CAN see my point

which is I'm glad I'm in Leicester most of the time.

                    Parsefone @restlessboy | 14 Feb '06, 14:59 | X
                • isn't

the viaduct the largest brick structure in europe? i'm guessing the great wall of china is bigger so it won't be the world. still impressive though.

                  phil_t @Parsefone | 14 Feb '06, 14:57 | X
                  • I might do my dessertation on it

                    If absolutely everything else fails.

                    • Humph

Altrincham posho, coming over here, taking our shoes

                      • what's the first?

                        Parsefone @TremblingStar | 14 Feb '06, 16:27 | X
                        • No

I am pretty sure it is numero uno in the European brick structure stakes.

                          Durutti @Parsefone | 14 Feb '06, 16:37 | X
                          • 11 million bricks!

                            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockport

do we get some sort of award?

went to the hat museum as part of a school trip about 5 years ago. anyone who thinks hats aren't interesting and don't deserve a museum all of their own should go, and then they'll see just how right they were. it was tedious after the first hat, once you reach the eighth billoneth with a little note saying it was once worn by su pollard you really want to pay a visit to the viaduct with a nice long piece of rope.
