I saw it last night. That guy was messed up and everyone who knew him seemed crazy too. Anyone else seen it?
wife get her face eaten off - bit of a departure from Herzog's usual Jim Carey-esque capers........
think he seemed that crazy! Apart from the bit where he adopted the 'Australian' accent there wasn't that much evidence of crazyness. It was funny that he thought that he was protecting the bears when there were actually too many.
Werner Herzog rules. Especially in this case for not playing any of the tape from the disasterous bit and advising the woman to throw it away.
He was crazy, He got very excited about touching the bear poo and proceeded to exclaim to the bear 'Oh my god, This was inside you'. He kept telling the animals that he loved them. He had violent mood swings. He thought the goverment were after him, He was clearly insane.
I thought it was really funny when one of his friends said he lost his grip on reality because he didn't get the part of Woody on cheers.
I forgot about the poo bit. To be fair though if I was alone for weeks on end with only bears and foxes for company I would probably be saying crazy things too.
That 'mthrfckng park service' bit was really funny. Just the way he changed straight back into friendly nature man after it.
He had that Amy woman with him who got eaten too. The scene where they showed the bear they had to cut up to get the body parts back was fucked up too.
but yeh...i was in debate with the mate i saw it with. I thought he was a twat. A lot of it seemed forced. Also, when the hellicopter pilot or whatever said that the bears didn't kill him earlier because they sensed he waas mentally retarded was funny. Not sure whether Herzog's comparison between the guy and Klaus Kinsky was valid...may have to check out My Best Fiend.
The footage of the bears fighting reminded me of a saturday night at work.
I only saw it last night so I wouldn't have replied before.
He didn't mention Kinskey did he?
but when he was saying about how he had seen an actor trying to take over and control the set and whatever it was obvious.
the only other film of his I've seen is Fitzcaraldo, I'm not a big film fan.
my mate didn't even believe it was a true story - the Woody from Cheers bit sounded ridiculous. He did seem to want to do it partly to become famous and get on tv. To that end I see him as a bit of a twat as well, but it didn't make him any less interesting as a character. More interesting in fact.
and him more intersting as a fictional character. If he was doing it in a positve way and wanted to help maybe the film would have been dull i guess.
for most years though if I remember correctly. Just later on.
