the only ones that spring to mind that I've seen and HATE are:
Sinatra and co were just pissing about to be fair.
DIE HEATHEN DIE
Evil Dead doesnt really count...
is shit. Endemic of the Hollywood through-enough-CGI-at-the-wall-and-something-will-stick attitude. I stopped paying attention about the same time as the Diplodicus pile-up.
saw a version of animal farm that was better than the original, I don't think it counts though.
King Kong wasn't bad.
The original still is great...
It's got the same star and made by the same man.
You wouldn't say a band re-recording a rough demo, were covering their own song...
but Herzog's Nosferatu was good. The original is a hugely influential film but I'd probably rather watch the remake.
Wasn't His Girl Friday a remake? In which case, that is deffo one. I've never seen the original but it can't be better than His Girl Friday.
Grizzly Man? Quality film. That man wasn't so crazy.
Anyway, The Thing with Kurt Russell is better than the 1951 Thing.
but I'm hoping to see it this week.
Also been considering buying the Herzog/Kinski box set from Play, it's only £17 delivered.
in some cases, notable ED, teh first time through the film is pretty much a demo.
He was remaking his own film.
It still doesn't count.
It doesnt count...
But does that mean you couldn't have Hitchcock's 'The Man Who Knew Too Much'?
I don't know...
what are the circumstances?
it doesn't have a two on the end, and stuff
a kiss before dying
'the man who knew too much' of the 50s was ace - was the earlier one any better?
Get with it!
yeah maybe i should have read this first
Then remade it about 20 years later after he moved to America.
That's a remake.
Length of time etc...
10 years. or if it is made my another director.
does this discussion apply when the first film wasnt the originator of the plot? as in, the lord of the rings cartoon is arguably not as good as the film, but the film isnt really a remake of the cartoon, just a later adaption of the boook.
like, the films are siblings, not parent/child.
Scarface and The Thing
Both remakes of films from the 1950's I think, and two of my favourite films of all time.
who thinks the remake of Scarface is a bit crap.
I find it very boring.
"Say hello to my little friend"
But I just get bored. I'm not that fussed on a lot of Brian DePalma's films actually, and the script was written by Oliver Stone -who also bores me.
DePalma's doing a 'prequel' to The Untouchables. Should be umm great....
and the score has not dated well.
so many heathens, so little time.
I knew you'd reply to that. Come on Moroder has done better.
was remade in the 70s (i think) as 'the front page' with walter matthau and jack lemmon and it was directed by billy wilder.
the general consensus seems to be that its shit, but i love it. obviously nowhere near as good as the original because his girl friday has cary grant. and its directed by howard hawks, who's amazing.
he also directed the original scarface, which i agree, is totally better than the remake.
a remake of The Front Page, which was then remade in the 70s as The Front Page?
yeah, i think you're right. but wasn't the original 'the front page' a play, not a film?
does theatre count, fullerov?
it was a film too.
It was an easy mistake to make.
Curse these remakes or remakes.
That's hard to define...
If Jaws was made again people would see it as a remake, rather than a second adaption.
It would have avoided this confusion.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was a remake and that's a good film.
Star Wars improves on Star Wars in nearly every way possible.
I'll check it out.
wicker man....I cannot believe that they think they could make it more powerful.
Get carter (never bothered to see the remake)
The Vanishing....the original was one of the most powerfull and unpleasently downbeat films ever, the us version fitted to the usual us film template
Nikita was slick sexy and violent so they remade it and decreased the quotient of each of those adjectives (I thought they liked that sort of thing....was it cos it had subtitles?)
Not the De Niro rubbish, the Simpsons episode with Sideshow Bob and the rakes and the houseboat and that.
you think its finished, and then it keeps going...and going...and going...
"I think he's talking to you...."
and probably others i cant think of
