To MaryMAry, bangbang and all the other lovely Aus dwellers here. Hurrah!
My flatmate and nearly brother went outthere Monday. Oh how I miss washing his socks.
shudders....as he remembers Marilyns advice for alternative sock usage
...what happens? Ooh do tell. Do you get a flag, or ice-crem and jelly? Or a pat on the back from your leaders? i like to think all four.
Well they announce australian of the year (not me) they show rubbish TV ads for the weeks leading upto it asking what are YOU doing on australia day..... it's a fire ban so you can't have a barbeque in a public place. and the leaders are all bickering.
Australian of the Year though. By far. Unless you don't consider yourself Australian.
by banning barbecues?
Well that's just crushed all of my stereotyped ideas :-(
because of the heat we have a total fire ban across the state. you can't light a fire, and the includes barbeque unless it is in a paved area, 20m from a building, a 5 m from a water source. or something. which means parks are out I think.
I'm not really one for the heat.
We're off out to celebrate tonight with our friends from lovely Oz!
oh no... i don't want to go home now. It's going to be crawling with drunken people on their way to the walkabout.... urgh!
don't live in Shepherds Bush do you?
it's bad enough on saturday nights, let alone a whole day dedicated to australians!
my sympathy hun! I won't suggest coming to Covent Garden with us later!
I live in Fulham. Where every day is loud drunk Australian day.
What is the attraction? and also, what is with the walking around in shorts and sandals in winter thing??!
they giving away fosters hats in the pub last night !
i wish it was paddys day.
a particular date? or event?
I merely wanted to find out if it represented some 'white mans' kind of date and whether it annoyed aboriginals
that the first settlers there almost starved due to the switchover of the seasons: They kept planting their crops in autumn... :-/
