to try to make the chinese government happy, but i don't really agree. i don't think the internet should be regulated or restricted. whats the point then? it's meant to be about free speech and unlimited access to information. China basically just have a big intranet really.
ioncrease in the dominance of snooker players from China to be fair. I blame tobacco advertising laws.
China is an example of stringent market socialism - its a interesting development of the last 50 years so there's no point being kneejerk about it. Along with Russia their new aggressive market-ideologies may jar with ours but then again we live in the shadow of Neo-conservatism so what can we scoff about really?
Anyway what's everyone wearing on the 28th?
i like the thing about telling users when what they're seeing has been censored. dancing with the devil while stepping on his toes, if you will..
towards government intervention on the net?
because China have been doing this for years and years, as have other governments in parts of the world.
they haven't invaded Taipai have they?
towards official government intervention on the net?
Let's be honest, America and Britain would have done this to some extent if they had the 15 or so years of observing the power of the internet/Google whilst not having access to it
The beauty of the internet is its uncensored nature, but that is also its curse in many respects
that it's censored here in Sweden too
In the sense that you cannot change your search filter - it is a mandatory 'safe search'
If you type in google.com it re-directs you to google.se since about a year ago
I can still do wider searches by going to google.co.uk but how long before this changes is anyone's guess
google.ie - it's not censored either, i don't think anyway.
by the UK authorities about bringing in internet censorship for a number of years. As usual it's all about protecting us from ourselves and child pornography. If I felt it was only going to be access to child porn which was going to be restricted I wouldn't be so worried. We're already seeing this coming in with the retaining of peoples emails.
I imagine the religious right in America will fully support internet censorship, especially for teenagers. They'll be against restricting access to adult escort services, which they'll use, be caught, either deny it against overwhelming evidence or throw their hands in the air and cry 'oh ma lawd I have sinned' They'll then be appointed to the Supreme Court to uphold decency.
legislation was passed years ago that allows the government to demand details from your ISP. i forget the name of it, though.
I've been trying to get http://www.keaneband.com/ banned for ages.
