Are people far too knowing and cynical these days?
I would say it is part of the post-modern condition we find ourselves somewhat bogged down in on a daily basis - but is it good for the soul - is it catharsis or is it just whinging? Also what did you all have for tea last night
erm, you already know
my answer to this.
and, i went to a wetherspoons - the one by trafalgar sq - and it DIDN'T HAVE CHIPS!! not that i really wanted them, but, serving a burger with tortillas? isn't that weird? they don't do any fried food. it was such a headfuck.
i had a 'southern fried' chicken wrap with fucking tortilla chips and afterwards a banana split. washed down with magners&black. then i had an amaretto. mmmmmmm.
that's just not right.
although wetherspoons chips are generally undercooked and limp anyway, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise.
magners rocks.
i had veggie burger and a interesting colcannon-type thing with greens and assorted seeds. and a splash of soy sauce, it was nice.
cynicism is a survival trait in this 'post-modern' times. Even so, I love it when people are stupidly enthusiastic about things - it's really refreshing. :)
i didn't eat tea last night
i have really bad weekend eating habits as i usually sleep in too late for what i consider to be "breakfast" so i just have something that vaguely resembles breakfast and lunch at about 11:30 and then something that vaguely resembles lunch and dinner at about 3/4 (usually during Stargate SG1) and then something else at 9:30pm.
in practise, it means i just eat toast all day.
in answer to the other part of your post, sometimes i like that i'm so cynical because it makes me less willing to accept The Way Things Are if I disagree with it, which I think makes me a stronger and more driven person overall. But, on the other hand, it also makes me bloody miserable when I realise I can't always work against things and that compromise is a neccessary and depressing part of life.
Some people often confuse
the inevitable satire that some things are greeted with as world weariness or lazy cynicalism - but these things good are bad are thre product of these times and only good can come from it!
I had 'dinner' (only proles have 'tea) and it involved a free range chicken, some lentils and some new potatoes - I had Rick Gervais and Christian O Connell round for a night of very pleased with ourselves back slapping bonhomie - we recorded it and will be up online by Jauary 2009
I had a fucking huge omelette
at about 2pm. After that I ate some pumpkin seeds and some limescale from the kettle.
Knowing and cynical? Yep, probably.
I didn't have tea last night
Because I had a pub lunch, and can't afford two proper meals a day :(
heinz choclate pudding and custard
and some grapes and a yogurt, I do guntrips style of eating at the weekend too.
It's because it's much easier to be cynical than optimistic and positive so yes, but I'm not...
I had gammon, egg and chips
Also, what does cynical mean?
i find
most people who are bitter and cynical are actually hopelessly idealistic and it's becuase they have such lofty expectations of the world that they are constantly disappointed.
my mum cooked me dinner. it was yummy. then i had some jelly beans for dessert.
The dinner bit was sarcastic
but am intrigues wth your gastro habits
and for the record Rick Gervais is LOVELY in realy life. He even took his own plate into the kitchen and offered to wipe up, whereas McConnell cound get enough of the sound of his own voice and knocked over an ashtray
'could' read 'couldn't
.
people
generally use cynicism as a satisfactory substitute for activism. And I had a cheese and ham sandwich for dinner.
yes but it only works if its the psringboard
to activism - remember that!
A cheese and ham sandwich for dinner on a sunday is a bit Steptoe isn't it?
psringboard = character from Stargate?
My loan still hasn't come through. It was a really nice cheese and ham sandwich.
I always say
'I'm not cynical I'm just a really angry idealist'
And my GF made a vegetable Dhansak - which I put chicken in.
I find a surprising number of people
are ignorant and dismissive rather than know and cynical
It's the 3 monkeys paradigm I guess
(racks of lamb with basmati rice, aubergine and mushroms with avocado salad)
knowing*
ignorant and dismissive
seems more like it to me
but that might be cos i watch the wright stuff and its hardly a bastion of informed and reasoned debate
oh and
im having a cheese sandwich, with a side order of monster munch served with a glass of chilled orangina
that's my man
enough of this bourgeois ciabatta and white wine claptrap.
old skool
meal.
cynical !
me !
never !
yes
i'm am trying not to be though, really i am.
people (myself included) seem to be living in constant fear of being trite/unoriginal/cliched. i'm sure it's not healthy to second guess yourself all the time.
dinner...
nacho chips and dip and popcorn with -claire- and my g/f and Chris J.
And four movies.
