SHIT!
this is social! balls
Yes social bollocks
Aimed at people who have no scoial skills.
Or
spelling skills.
I like She's Lost Control a lot
And Slide Away by The Verve.
And Macca did some good ones for The Beatles such as Come Together.
do not includen McCartney
in this please else i will switch to playing accordian in a stripey top. Forever. I do love the story about Lennon playing deliberately shit bass on Long & Winding Road though.
Fave basslines - there are far too many
Turn to Red - Killing Joke
Carreering - PiL
NewBorn - Muse
The Classical - The Fall
Barbarism Begins at Home - The Smiths
Not Even Jail - Interpol
Oh that's a few off the top of my head - how long have you got?
good call
on the Killing Joke
Joy Division had tons of amazing Basslines:
Digital
Disorder
She's Lost Control
Isolation
A Means to an End
Colony
Heart and Soul
Transmission
Incubation
I could go on and on.
Peter Hook... ah bless!
ooh yes
and Helter Skelter
Good one:
Stars and Sons - Broken Social Scene
You Can Call Me LoL
has to be the worst record and video combined ever - what WAS Chevy CHase thinking?
Cuddly Toy by Roachford is pretty impressive as well basswise
The bassline to Would I Lie to You has some interesting octave interplay in it if you listen closely
since i'm listening to them right now
just about anything from 'relationship of command' by ATDI.
i used to sing
call me al in my school band.
i was awful and fluffed it everytime.
are you still ignoring me Gunners?
I dropped the 'r' you note.
Actually the best bassline is in Love Shack by the B-52s - the 12 inch mix, natch.
no
i was going to reply to your 'you can call me al' comment but i was distracted. but, yeah, that really is one of the worst songs i've ever heard. the video is people sitting in a room or something isn't it?
my dad likes that song. when my dad had a small midlife crisis about ten years back and tried to buy "trendy" albums, he came home with K by kula shaker and automatic for the people. which i stole. i don't think i need to say any more.
yes, that's the one
you'll have to excuse me, i haven't had VH1 classic for about four years so my viewing opportunities have been limited ;P
it's still rubbish. and not even in a good way.
I've got love for Chevy Chase therefore I have a soft spot for that video
My DJ partner always plays that song. I find it too much but people dance so what the fuck do I know?
Blatantly
Love Will Tear Us Apart
and also Where I End And You Begin by Radiohead.
That's it, those are the only two.
Pop is Dead has a good bassline
actually I'm being silly now.
Hellbound by the BReeders is good though
I cant get 'You Can Call Me Al' off my brain - Soup100, maybe it should read as 'You Can Call Me, Al' - as in "I am desirious of my friend Alan to make communication forthwith with myself. No I didn't mean you Art"
yes!
and Out Of The Races... is ace too
yes 'Where I End...'
is an ace bassline - I like the drop out bit for one bar - a happy accident you think?
Hell yes.
Anything off of
White Blood Cells.
*titter*
Is that one there? Theo?
Are you Patricide?
Is what one where?
I'm confused. Bobbygeorge your crimes against English know no bounds. "Off of" indeed!
Actually National Anthem (Radiohead song obviously) has a nice bass riff. Our bassist has a few also! ;-)
Call me Al
When I saw that video I had no idea who Chevvy Chase was. I was quite disappointed when I saw Paul Simon again and realised he was the short ugly one.
However, he did get to bone 'Princess Leia' so he's surely a bit of a geek god?
FAKT
1. Thom Yorke plays the bassline on national anthem.
2. Apparently it's the same bassline from Exit Music but at a different speed.
Obviously
Killing Joke, Joydivision stuff, but I thought I should be atypical here and mention a bassline from someone who I normally would not listen to, and that was 'Do you think I'm sexy' by Rod Stewart (its just very effective and memorable) (loads of disco tracks had some marvellous 'real' basslines (most of you youngsters have had the image of disco tarnished by endless repetitions of 'celebrate' Kool n the gang etc, but there are tons of greatr hooks running underneath many obscurer tracks that are overlooked)
The murder of rosa luxemburg
time and death invading the arcadian scene
yes and
also pretty much every Parliament/Funkadelic track
Anything upbeat off motown
1959-1969
all of:
TEMBLD stuffs!

24 Hours
Basically all of both bands' back catalogues.
Yeah...
agreed with Wrighty, all of interpols tracks have bangin' basslines.
Gigantic
pixies
When I was a wee bairn
And was merely beginning my descent into music-related debt, I thought the bass opening for She Bangs The Drums was the shizzle
So much so, that when I saw this thread that's the first song that came into my head
"Second Coming?"
"I like it!"
i was gonna say
maxwell murder - ranicd. good call.
come see, come saw - RFTC
any DFA1979 track.
some of the really old school blood brothers stuff had good bass intros on "rumours laid waste".
five state drive - less than jake
Right Tommo
Who and what are ESG and should I own some of their stuff?
YES!!!!!
Buy a South Bronx Story now and be forever happy!
yeah south bronx story
The more you listen to that album the more the basslines get under your skin. Simple/Effective, innit.
Okay
will investigate.
i'll download that then
Good work Team Tom!
Team Tom
comes up trumps again! We really are the best aren't we?
High Five everyone!
High 10!
always has to go too far....
It's hard...
to argue with that formidable list.
*shakes booty*
hell yes
also as a cheesy populist vote the bassline to accperience by hardfloor, or even the one on the blue monday remix - hubba hubba.
My ultimate is a remix of track called pulp fiction by baby doc - haven't seen it anywhere but it makes my internal organs bleed it is that good.
Radioactive Man
The Hacker
Drexciya
Plastikman

Surprised there's not been more early PiL

Interpol - Obstacle One
I always loved The Stranglers' basslines, JJ Burnel was such a badass on the early albums
Goodbye Toulouse
(Get a) Grip (On Yourself)
I Feel Like a Wog
