Withnail and I?!
I challenge anyone to name 20 funnier films, for crying out loud
I've just turned it off. Idiots.
Everytime I watch that film, I fear I'm literally going to die with laughter.
"Of course he's the fucking farmer, Withnail!"
'get in the back of the van!'
Dynamite is the funniest film I saw in 2005, and is my NEW favourite film.
I've got a large poster of him up on my wall now.
School of Rock was in there?!?!
i ask you
...Meet The Focking Parents
*falls backwards off chair*
And the upcoming inclusion of Spinal Tap has reminded me that my friend Kira still hasn't returned my copy
been in it yet? Will it be? Don't know if it officially counts as a comedy, but it makes me laugh even more than Withnail, if possible.
thought School of Rock was unexpectedly funny and interesting.
Meet the Fockers is a typical example of a sequel let-down.
Have you seen Rushmore, h_f? I think it's even better than Royal Tenenbaums.
you'll like it. For it be my favourite movie ever.
Big Lebowski or Airplane? I'd be very suprised and dismayed if those two weren't in there.
austin powers at 4.
I'm outta here
at 2, surely Life of Brian at 1? or maybe Dumb and Dumberer....
WOW my faith in the nation has been restored. Where was the dude though??
Withnail is on though! Surely this is a sign that even the people at Channel 4 thought it should have won?
American Pie 3?
who found Withnail and I quite tedious when I saw it. It just seemed to go on and on...
I do like a good comedy:
Airplane! (well any Zucker brothers)
Dr. Strangelove (also good choices)
Nuns on the Run
My Cousin Vinny.
Was True Lies in there? I love that film but I can't see it's anything but a comedy...
"gimme any word and i'll pronounce it funny for a nickel"
true lies wasn't in there. it's probably seen as more of an 'action' movie.
search fo the holy grail
is the funniest film of all time. It really is. Yes.
and he's nice!
Best in Show is also hilarious.
IS MR BUZZY BEE!!!?!?!?
South Park the Movie
Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls
clicky here for the full top 50
american pie and others will always creep in when you've got a public vote.
but where's swept away with madonna? that was a joke.
Surely that's as much a 'comedy' as True Lies is?
Ok so airplane no.2 yes very good BUT I'm looking and I cannot see Big Lebowski anywhere on that list. Can someone show me where it is hiding because the idea of it not being on there is just nonsensical.
Is American Pie in any way funnier than 'This Is Spinal Tap'.
So this is now officially THE top 10
1. Withnail and I
2. This Is Spinal Tap
3. Holy Grail
4. A Mighty Wind
5. The Naked Gun
6. Life Of Brian
7. Dumb And Dumber
8. The Full Monty
10. Something with the Muppets
Shirley you can't be serious?
and don't call me Shirley.
Ah, it's definitely one of the best. :-D
should be on that list.
i watched it again last night.
it's not as great as i remember it.
all the best bits (apart from the slightly un-pc 'jive' subtitles) were shown on the channel 4 thing.
"i like my coffee black. like my men."
No 'The appartment', no Raising Arizona, no Baseketball, no Bringing up Baby. Scandalous.
And worse, Wayne's world was ahead of Bill and Ted! Disgusting.
against my better judgement. The smugness just gets intolerable after a while (Richard Curtis especially... urrgggh) but I have to admit the list was better than might have been expected.
I'll join in asking where "The Big Lebowski" was though.
And that's hard for me to say. He said Animal House was in his top 10 films so that put him higher in my estimations.
I forgot how indebted to Spinal Tap we are
"the bad man punted baxter"
that had me crying with laughter when Jack Black booted the dog. Awesome!
Withnail and I should of been higher as well, awesome film.
"As a youth, I used to weep in butcher's shops"
team america world police
i'm probably thinking of the wrong thing, but there was a sitcom called that with Paul Whitehouse as a nurse bear, it was quite good.
this film has its moments but it is NOT completely laugh out loud. Some of the comedy seemed outdated but there were times mainly involving Withnail where I laughed. It's definitely quotable but just not extremely funny. It didn't come across like a straight comedy film anyway.
it's not a 'straight' comedy film, thats what makes it better, its an autobiographical story that is fucking hilarious
the big lebowski
monty python, life of brian
monty python, the holy grail
this is spinal tap
national lampoon's animal house
ferris bueller's day off
naked gun 2 1/2
naked gun 33 1/3
beverley hills cop
jay and silent bob strike back
wayne's world 2
so, yeah, loads of flms are better funnier than withnail and I
you are wrong, inclusion of any film with 'Shrek' in the title renders your opinions null and void ;)
there's more than 20 listed
... and also Office Space!
I love that film!
just had to look up jennifer aniston's filmography to get the title! i loved it!
is that what we're calling it these days?
in a sexually suggestive manner, 'up Jennifer Aniston's' one in particular
excuse the filthy mind
I'm telling you Withnail and I isn't that funny. Sure I know it's autobiog blah blah blah but it's not great. I watched it as more for Withnail's hamminess and to see where it was all going to end.
isn't always about laughing out loud, it's about whole situations, not just one liners and build ups and punchlines. I rarely 'laugh out loud' at Withnail, that doesnt mean i don't find it funny. There are underlying themes in Withnail that make it funny too
still not finding it funny as a whole film. Whichever way I look at it comedy or not comedy I don't find it funny. What's comedy without laughs/jokes and real insight? I'll admit as I have that it has its moments and both I and Withnail plus Monty flesh up some humourous observations/
performances but it's just not as genius as the hype suggests.
In the end comedy is relative to the individual. One man's pearl is another's dross or in this case you love Withnail and I while I think it just has its moments of brilliant comedy mainly one liners. You can't define comedy for e anymore than I can for you so don't try.
When one tries to make another laugh in an attempt to get some free drugs. Often involves hilarious slapstick routines or delibarately mishearing words and phrases. E.g:
'Whaaaaat? Your submarine has no plimsole? LOL LOL LOL. Can I have some drugs now please?'
This was one *******est of all time lists that I was not outraged by. I think the films far better represented what I thought were funny (and what I thought sane humans would think were funny) (although I did not notice 'Mousehunt' in there)
Where the hell were they? I mean come on!! COME ON!!!!!!!!!! Nothing funnier than watch Ollie fly out a kitchen after blowing it up.
Midnight Run needed to be in the list aswell.
