That's pretty big right? What the fuck is happening to this planet?
a couple of days ago: there has been a definite noticable change in temperature in the last couple of years. and what with this year being the 'stomiest, windiest and hotttest', things do not bode well.
it's going to be the "coldest winter" or the "wettest summer". there may be some change, but a lot of it's media hype to sell papers.
The media aren't mentioning the problems anywhere near enough. Yeah, they report the events, but I personally haven't seen much in the papers that echoes a lot of peoples feelings that these natural disasters are becoming more and more frequent
There is a big difference in predicting a wet summer and trying to figure out why so many thousands of people are dying due to increasingly frequent natural disasters
worldwide media coverage makes the planet looks worse now than it has ever been. Earthquakes have always happened. The population of the world is always increasing so therefor more people are going to die when natural disasters strike. Earthquakes happen all the time in the sea, we don;t hear about them as few people are affected.
god is smiting us
keane are a human invention ...
think about this for one moment
do you seriously believe that the climate of a PLANET can be charted or predicted in the long-term????
the answer is no
realistically all we can predict, by going on the findings of history, is that there will be another ice age some time in the next few thousand years
we are actually overdue for one by some estimates
again, an ice age takes centuries to come about, don't be fooled by films like The Day After Tomorrow, it doesn't happen overnight so rest easy
along the way to this ice age, the average global temperature does not steadily decline or increase, it fluctuates
it is quite plausible, if not slightly obvious that we're just experiencing a fluctuation
give it 20 years and the media hype will have changed from global warming to "IS THIS ANOTHER ICE AGE?!?!??!?"
it won't be
by the way, with this argument i've not taken into account the obvious effects of man upon the environment, notably the effect on the ozone layer which has definitely, without a doubt, raised the planet's temperature a bit
the earthquake though, is nothing special. there are thousands of earthquakes every year
have a look, find a website which charts them and their richter scale strengths and i doubt that 2005 will be much different to 1995
completely true !
beware the icebergs innit
God's revenge against the Darkness.
He's gonna strike quakes all over the world hoping he kills them one day.
I think God's been attempting to bring about the apocalypse since about 1954. But the fact is, he's lost his touch. We're like syphilis- we've got underneath the skin and now he can't shake us off. He's having a good go at it, though.
the new cockroaches. unkillable.
viruses with shoes.
& raz's comment is fairly spot on, but it belies the effect we are indeed having on this planet. can we measure it? not really, since we don't have shit for a baseline. but nature is so completely & totally finely tuned, that even a slight unnatural (caused by pollution, greenhouse, keane, or other synthetically produced shit) can have completely catastrophic consequences.
like creationism rearing its ugly head again......
of the planet fluctuates naturally anyway, think of the ice ages or whatever. If we had an ice age now we'd all be wondering wtf we did. So I reckon the changes in the climate are as much to do with natural change as it has to do human causes.
But I know nothing about it.
Same stuff that has always happened....
