How much did i miss out on on a scale of 1-10?
but i'm waging on 6.
it was about a 5.
5 would be ideal. anywhere over 7 and you're looking at major disappointment.
no i don't know why i'm talking either.
Well, it was mega good, very strange though! I'd give it about an 8, I reckon.
Basically, for those who didn't read SCL's thread about this event, it was an 'Electronic Winter Ball' featuring Warp DJs and Mouse on Mars at a secret location under Regents Street. Homesick Alan and I didn't have tickets, so we therefore didn't know where it was, and spent about an hour wandering around until we eventually (with help from SCL) found the entrance hidden behind a curtain. With our superior blagging skills, we managed to get in, although it did actually sell out in advance.
It was in a cellar, but had a kind of 1950s nuclear bunker feel about it. It could be a nice club in the future though. There was a bizarre Soviet-style drink tokens system, but then the bar staff were quite liberal with their vodka pouring, so that was fun. It was really nice and unpretentious, no 16 year old girls scowling and wearing silly hats etc., and everyone being cheery and friendly, including all the staff which made a nice change.
The stage times were a bit confused, so I'm not even sure which ones Mouse on Mars were, there was a man who mixed Christmas carols though, he was cool. I'll leave Alan to comment on the music, I'm not really an expert, but I did enjoy all of it!
I am seriously deaf now though, it was just insanely loud. The DJs were impressive, it seemed like they were mixing each track individually in a more remixy way than just standard beatmatching and mixing records, which was interesting and sounded fucking good. They played loads of different things but it seemed to be mostly tech-house type stuff with breakbeat thrown in every now and then.
The last guy that was on, I don't know his name. He was actually insane and just piss funny. He had a microphone attactched to his head and he would literlly just make noises with his mouth and then sample himself and loop it, then like glitch it up and distort and gate it and turn the whole thing it some kind of breakcore/hard house thing which somehow worked, people were going crazy for it. I especially liked it when he just said something like "YOU'RE ALL BUNCH OF CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU", dragged it out distorted it for a while then just went "NTS". haha.
Yeah it was ace though, despite taking two seperate attempts and about 3 hours to find it. Seriously, you would never find it unless someone had told you, the alley it was down had a curtain covering up the entrance, and the place was like some kind of war bunker, which was great.
Wasn't so much "our superior blagging skills" as just nice squirrel's blagging skills, who officialy has the best job ever. :D
I was prepared to plead a lot more! I had some cheap crappy Boots earplugs, so my ears are fine today. It was mega loud.
am suitably depressed now... it sounds ace. I didn't actually know where it was, the directions I sent you were from bobby g's housemate and he didn't get in either! Next time I'm buying tickets!
DiS outing to the next one. Did you have a fun evening though anyway SCL?
