pretty sure my parents got it in 2003. maybe 2002.
(we had the internet at uni) but when I went back to my parents in the summer of 2000 at the end of my degree I bought a 56k modem and fitted it to my PC and signed up to freeserve.
When I moved out a year later to go back to uni, my parents didn't have a PC of their own and so weren't online. I could hook my PC up at my new student house, but tended to use the machines at university as it didn't cost anything.
97 or 98 at a guess
Eye watering speeds from my 28kbit/s modem.
first thing i did was look at some pictures of neve campbell
Good old Demon Internet.
99 in my first flat.
Dad worked in computers so got on the internet as soon as he could. Compuserve through a 28k modem on a Gateway PC.
I don't really know how I coped living there given that she also has no shower, just a bath, and no central heating.
but we did have central heating.
my mum bought us a computer, and we signed up to AOL using one of those free CDs they used to send everyone in the UK at least once a week. £4.99 a month + phonetical charges for three whole hours of internet time. Additional time billed at £1.99/hour.
First time in my childhood home was when I got it put in in 2013 when I moved back for 2 months. Big waste.
i quickly discovered guitar tabs and set about downloading every tab for every song i could think of
who do a piece on wanking and they go, face, face, tits, tits, tummy, tummy, fanny, FANNY! or anything like that?
If they don't then I might have some material they might want to buy off me.
proper early days, 28k modem and through Compuserve. I didn't even know what a browser was, it was all about the chatrooms. Finally worked out you could go to some programme called "Spy URL" to access webpages. The next revelation was broadband a few years later, but the massive one was wireless. It was like voodoo, plus it meant late nights with my laptop in the bedroom.
i think it was so my mum could work from home more easily
modem was something like 2.1k
and she might be but if she is she's a robot who works in IT.
i'm not sure what use a 2.1k internet connection could have been to her but my understanding is that it was for work purposes
the modem is almost certainly still in the attic
it helped me to be a randy little tosser
my dad got a computer on finance from work and we had it for a month before we got the internet installed, so i just used to play solitaire and watch the wmp visualisers and go on paint before tea every night
when we got internet the first website we went on was the harry potter and the philosophers stone film one
i got three pc games that christmas and my dad didn't me go on it for longer than an hour and a half at a time because his claimed his mate had the same one and it blew up
