but at least meat eaters don't smell like anus
'That German dickhead is here again, Davey wipe your nob on the pie pastry will ya'
And lots of weird scary adverts trying to get you to quit.
Possibly with the pub landlord guy in.
ok yeah they should be
and it has this on the side
that you could just turn down a whole genre of food because our particular capitalist society makes it possible to do so
I'd be sure to hack up any cows I found instead of grabbing some veg
Our society makes many different things possible, its just down to a matter of whether you agree with eating animals or not.
For example, the modern meat industry is a HUGE threat to the environment, in addition to being basically institutionalised animal abuse in most cases. You can't really see just "eating meat" as some kind of abstract thing that is completely unrelated to anything else, so saying that "it's just a matter of whether you agree with eating animals" as if that's all there is to it doesn't really cover it.
I'm aware that its not 'nice' to eat animals and I'm aware of the environmental impact of it, but if the choice to eat meat exists then I'll choose to eat it. Like the majority of meat eaters I do so because its tasty and I like it.
The ideal thing for people to do would be to campaign for better treatment of animals and fairer taxation on the industry so that people who will continue to eat meat regardless can do so with less of an impact. No argument with a vegetarian or media campaign is going to change people's opinions
And as for changing people's minds, most of us who are now vegetarians have at some point been convinced somehow or other to quit meat, so I think that kind of proves that people's opinions can be and indeed are changed all the time.
As for "I know why it's bad but it's tasty, and like bacon", urgh let's not even go there
I don't doubt that peoples' minds are changed all the time but it would be incredibly difficult to change people's minds en masse to the extent that would have the impact that is required to take meat off the menu.
Much more feasible is the reform of the meat industry to become more sustainable and ethical - free range eggs for example - you can make changes to the way animals are farmed and killed that don't force people to change the ways they live their lives (and force the majority of the farming industry to dissolve). I would support that.
fwiw I also think that large swathes of the british public just aren't intelligent enough or capable of creating a non-meat diet that contains enough nutrients to actually sustain their bodies
Also I am of course COMPLETELY pro reforming the meat industry, as that's my main reason for being veggie anyway. I don't see it as necessary that everyone should go vegetarian or anything, I just really wish people in general would be a bit more conscious about their consumer choices and what they choose to eat on a daily basis.
meat based education for all
LET'S DO IT!!!!
Nipping outside during work for a quick steak. Plus we'd get that air of James Dean cool that smokers have.
tbh don't really see it as a vote winner. People can tell smoking is anti-social what with passive smoking etc but they'll have a much harder time to except that with regards to meat eating.
Some sort of carbon tax affecting meat might be a goer, though.
'Lend us a drumstick mate, I'm out.'
for going all save the environment/animals on us while supporting the big scary tobacco industry?
and the list goes on :(
