Got all the feline gear innit.
having totally nailed the game last night - only went and put the duke's dear freja and the BASTARD smelter demon to the sword didn't I.
Planning to upgrading Vengarl's chest armour soon as I can get some twinkling titanite, but that stuff seems to be impossible to get hold of so I'm resigned to my drangleic armour set for now
Pretty sure as soon as I get to the castle the game's gonna start kicking my arse again, but ive enjoyed the overpowered-ness ive had recently.
As for the witcher 3 i'm onto velen and woefully underlevelled for the majority of the non-story missions, despite having rinsed white orchard for all it was worth.
I'm in a dilemma of wanting the witcher to last as long as it possibly can and desperately wanting it to be over so I can do the same with MGS5, which looks proper bo
wish I'd kept my character from Witcher 2 now..dammit
ps4 on a massive tv in the sitting room, ps3 on a 32inch in the gym room. Now I can justify hours of gaming a night because I'm exercising at the same time.
Rowing machine *1
Recumbent bike *1
PS3, big tv and nice speakers *1
old ma jamienaz can't get enough of it
Means you can chill on a comfy seat and be exercising at the same time.
and much more suited to long distances, since your back and arse are way more supported.
Plus you're sat in the perfect position for gaming, since you're sat back in a chair rather than balancing upright on a bike.
I've reached the point (playing hard mode) where the following ludonarrative dissonance or whatever doesn't happen so much anymore
BRUMMY MAN: Yow'm Gerald from Rivia in't yow. Yow witchers am loik proper strong mutant fighting basterds and that, in't ya loik ya know loik.
GERALD: Yeah I once wiped out a whole fumbersnoot of snilphners with one foul swoop
BRUMMY MAN: Bostin like
(GERALD walks away towards the coast, and a couple of lanky wanker Smurfs come out and murder him within the space of about half a minute)
Was away over the weekend but the last thing that happened was me getting spanked silly by Duke's Dear Freja.
Have the same sensation of being a bit overpowered during the body of the levels and even took down a couple of the bosses first time. I assume it's inevitable regardless of what order you approach them but maybe it's just because of the bits where I was really struggling and exhausted a few areas of souls.
people seem to like them
apart from Gothic 1 & 2
But they often try a little bit too hard to be "adult".
The first one has aged badly and will remind you that there's plenty of things about "classic" RPGs that were discarded for good reasons. It's unintuitive and horribly grind-y in parts, and the VA-ing is occasionally absolutely hilarious. On the other hand some of the atmosphere it conjures up is great, and it delivers on tough choices and consequences that few modern games would be willing to.
The second one is where those Polish lads really upped their game and tried to deliver something special. Superb atmosphere, story-telling and VA-ing all round, and the actual game is significantly better. The choice at the end of the first act remains one of the boldest things I think I've ever seen in a video game, and ultimately probably affects the game negatively - the conclusion is very rushed. Some of the boss fights are also extremely annoying.
The third game's probably their crowning achievement - it's a genuine sandboxer, and the sandbox is ridiculously big and well-crafted. The sense of humanity, time and place I got with it in parts is beyond anything I've experienced in a video game, it's an astonishing achievement I would recommend to almost anyone. Ultimately though the game is actually too big, meaning once again the main story suffers. The further along I got with it the greater I got the sense they should have concentrated on that more than the hundreds of side-quests and contracts, many of which are pointless.
Also, yeah boobies. Develops a better attitude towards that as the series goes along, which is nice to see. The women in the third game are just as thoughtfully written as the men.
2nd one pissed me off the most because I couldnt jump over a low fence.
Excellent post though
a good article on the polish gamedev scene. seems like there's lots going on there.
thank you parsefone
I played the following:
Uncharted 2 HD Remaster - looked WELL nice, played the same so was obviously great
Street Fighter V - seemed the same as 4 to me, but I am not an expert. I tried one of the new characters but couldn't figure out any special moves so switched to Ryu and went hadoken crazy
Rise of the Tomb Raider - really good, seemed slightly puzzlier than the reboot, looked lovely, and I got impaled on spikes twice
Lego Dimensions - if the guy by the stand wasn't helping us out I wouldn't have got past the first bit, was properly confusing. uses the base that you put the characters on a lot more than the Disney one does I think which is clever but dunno how practical it is. also one puzzle involved the colour of the base changing and it wasn't terribly obvious if you're colour blind. had a Lego Marty McFly though.
Mario Tennis Ultra Smash - standard Mario tennis fare, liked the bit where I was Bowser, got a power up to turn massive and just charged the net, literally no way past
Fast Racing Neo - it's basically Wipeout, so it's good. has an added element where you switch colour of your shop between blue and orange, and if you hit a speed up and your colour matches you get a boost otherwise you slow down.
I also got a Project Cars hat, got to sit on Big Boss's motorbike and had a photo taken with Mario and Luigi. good day imo.
FAST racing neo and RaoTRaider are my two most anticipated games. Glad they're looking good!
That area where the witcher castle is, is massive considering. definitely looking about.
I'm on act 3 now, classic witcher, thought it was gonna end, didn't.
a weirdass indie called 'Undertale'. it's super rad but i'm stuck on a mean puzzle.
Having a nightmare in mensis though. On my one good run i got swamped by spiders and lost 40k blood echoes. Carnage.
Still loving it anyway.
liberated the first 8 belltowers using the buzzsaw, cos fuck that ubiclimbing shit. dunno why i didn't think of that the first time round.
might set some space aside for it during some dark nights next weekend.
There's also a good Retro game sale on the PSN store (https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/playstation-retro/cid=STORE-MSF75508-RETROGAMES) so I picked up Alundra (brilliant Zelda-like, one of my favs), Wild Arms, Arc the Lad and Tomba. Will prob ablso get the Legacy of Kain games (only played Blood Omen before) too. Any other good ones to get?
I really must go back to it
I love the way it's based around one village so you get to know all the Npcs rather than them being faceless sentence repeaters like most rpgs of that time. Surprisingly dark in places too (too my young self at least)
played a bit more - just done the coal mine and now i'm in the dungeon under the main town
So. Much. Game. I seem to pick up 3 side quests on my way to complete every side quest.
Went back to DS2 for some respite. That Scholar of the First Sin stuff is making things tougher. Can't help but feel it's as the game should have been in the damn first place though. It looks real nice on PC though and there seems to be loads of people playing it - I'm getting summoned all the time.
Once you've done that it is easier to enjoy. I'm on the 3rd act and stuck on a boss. He's a dick, trying not to Google it, might happen.
since there's too much to do it all. But it's so annoyingly well written - just about every side quest/monster contract has something interesting about it going on.
No idea how far through I am. I suspect not very far.
Dishonored was on my HD from a Playstation Plus freebie a while back. Started it and the visuals seem massively dated compared to the last couple of games I played. Seems like a fun stealth game though, worth sticking with?
Visited a mate who has a PS4 and we played some Batman. It made me really want a PS4.
it's alright innit
Had to watch a tutorial on how to do the hacking thing but otherwise loved it. Oh, apart from the boss battles.
Not sure if anyone wanted you about them yet? I won't give too much away, but if like me you played the whole game with just a tranq gun and then meet Arnie and his mini gun little friend unexpectedly, you'll have issues. Game ending ones potentially. The Wii U version (if that's the one you're playing) fixed this a bit and the bosses are possible now but not, NOT easy. Easiest way to beat them is to get the Typhoon power up and that is good as a last resort. Just warning ya...
And packing some explosive projectiles, they're no problem.
who's a real bastard, even relative to the bastardness of the bosses
Long as you upgrade that they're laughable.
I'm shooting everything more or less but using stealth when it makes sense. I'm playing PS3 version. Cool game
So I'm back into that this evening. I'm told that it's a totally fixed game now and I'm gonna love The Taken King.
The raids in Destiny have always sounded like some of gamings finest moments but I hate the concept of grinding, levelling up and needing 5 mates to do them. Sounds like the new version fixes several of those things and makes it far more doable. Heard various people say now that figuring out some of the puzzles in the latest raids are up there in terms of gaming eureka moments. First time I've ever wanted to play it...
So my PS4 fund has been wiped out. Decided to buy Mario Maker as a short term pick me up.
Not played much yet but the interface is great, I've had a lot of fun trying out peoples mental levels (there are some talented folks out there) and the art book is lush. I suck at making levels though. Like, really REALLY suck.
Gonna get it next month so remind me to check your levels!
I'm alternating between Rocket League and FIFA 16.
Haven't got the time to start a story driven game (although I want to) and haven't got the will to jump back into Dark Souls after a two month break (although again I want to).
is it any good?
It's all been said before, elsewhere, with infinitely more grace, depth and style. Everything about that website can fuck off.
I love a good simulator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXNXKk2HdlY
Would be awful without the story
but it's so easy :( i have the hints turned off but it's still telling me everything *sigh*
I bought PES 2015 and Undertale
Really enjoying PES 2015, every match I've played so far in single player has felt like a dynamic game of football with matches building up to natural crescendos and drumming up drama in a way that feels organic and not at all forced. Haven't felt a truly exploitive tactic either which is good. Got the PS4 version as the PC version seems like a massive con.
Undertale has been a fantastic little surprise and has quickly become one of my favourite games of the year. Earthbound-esque RPG with great humour and a very fun battle system, the MPCs are pretty much all great and memorable and the art style is very appealing. The soundtrack is pretty shit hot as well, subverts a lot of RPG tropes and plays off of them wonderfully. Highly recommended for PC folk, it'll run on pretty much any rig.
And straight into NG+ as I can't be arsed picking anything else up between now and Fallout 4, plus I want to do the 'proper' ending this time.
Also the DLC is out November 24th!
I just started a new game of Bloodborne - done cleric beast, Gasgoine, Blood Starved Beast (really struggled) and the witch. Amelia giving me such grief!
I played through to beating Gascoigne again. Think I may be a bit overlevelled right now, although I guess that will even out as I'll spend less time grinding as a result.
NOT looking forward to going at it with Amelia on NG+. She was my hardest boss (apart from shadow of yarnham where i resorted to using the bell)
Bloodstarved beast and Darkbeast on NG+ are insane. Me and Jonny_rat off here had to admit defeat when trying to do the latter together
I simultaneously love and hate those massive bosses. Darkbeast gave me a lot of trouble first time round :(
It's really fun and enjoyable but also kind of infuriating at the same time. All the stealthy extraction stuff is great, as soon as floaty man and fire man show up I'm so out though.
refuse to believe anybody has ever beaten this game. smashed 1 and 2.
It's so fun, damn it for being so damn fun. Also been playing The Witcher a lot as well.
Any of you had any trouble with audio issues when launching Netflix recently? My sound goes all corrupted every time I launch it and I have to switch audio outputs to and from HDMI to reset it.
They did just have an update though didn't they?
I wish there was a game that actually made me want to upgrade to PS4 or XBone. Will probably be FFXV at this rate.
we've got a PS4 in the house now (my housemates) hooked up to the main TV but I look at the games and most of them I've already got on PS3 or just seem dull. The Witcher 3 and some of the indie games are cool, mind.
Yakuza 5 and Persona 5 are the main things I'm looking forward to in the near future and both are on last gen as well :/
But I think there's enough that I'd like.
Bloodborne, MGSV, Arkham Knight and Everyone's gone to the rapture are the standouts. DS2, Destiny and Far Cry 4 have me intrigued. As a non PS3 owner The last of us, Journey and imminent Uncharted collection would be nice.
Games on the horizon I most want: Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Last Guardian, Xenoblade X, Zelda Wii U, Mafia 3, Crackdown 3. Not much of that is on PS4.
