Great goal, great skill and scared of a bubble. Happy Payetday everyone.
Just a pity there's no Huddersfield fans to abuse
you're not allowed to be smug/proud of your team in these threads any more
zip it slayer

Our generation's Kaufman
thing when he's getting some action? Please say yes.
Thought Clive would go too
Hopefully not with Hoddle alongside him.
Sounds like the sort of thing that they'd do.
FC Astana don't have any Brazilians, and nor do BATE Borisov! These teams should have at least three Brazilians each. I will not be watching
Have you checked that?
james richardson doing some kind of goals/soccer saturday saturday style live highlights should be a good thing to have on the laptop while having something on the tv.
seems a little harsh arsenal and chelsea have the early kick-off on saturday after they play on wednesday night. premier league doesn't seem to accommodate clubs in the same way spain and germany do
especially as Arsenal are away #conspiracy
Pretty sure that it would have been a Sunday match otherwise
the TV money accomodates them by enabling them to buy spare squads
and getting momentarily excited
First one of the season. Can't really get to many at the moment.
Was really good. Victor Moses looked great. I like him. Quite a few pessimists already moaning about how Payet will be off somewhere else soon. Probably true, but possibly not. Great to see Andy Carroll back too. Gets a lot of stick but I'm a big fan.
There was a giant dancing Pepperami outside the ground. And they were giving out free Pepperamis.
that most of our top, top players will want to stay and play in the Olympic stadium next year no matter what offers come in.
That certainly seemed to sway Winston Reid when it came to signing a new contract last year.
Also, a lot will come down to money which I suppose is there reason he came in the first place.
Manchester United finished 7th, so....
is giving out the promoted product in question in a couple Saturday's time
unless Gollivan sell up next year.
and Champons League
Liverpool or Arsenal
I thought maybe one of them we would draw
and it is Arsenal
On one hand, maybe we are good enough to go to an away game against the champion of a major European league and pick up 3 points, but on the other hand... no chance.
6/1 does seem like a slight overcompensation, though.
But we really, really should be expecting a comfortable win tonight
Apart from the fact that, generally, we've overperformed in the "big games" under Van Gaal, relative to more mediocre opposition.
Yeah we have a really expensive squad with big name players and stuff but they've played like 2 decent games out of 50.
And yeah, we've stunk up the joint big time but we've won plenty of games. Not saying it's gonna be easy on the eye or anything but we should be winning.
rein the antibants in a little, yeah
we did draw 0-0 to Newcastle at home.
honestly never realised that Gerrard was such a bitter cry-baby and that Rafa actually had some class before all this autobiography bollocks.
maintained his dignity while all the chelsea babies were being massive babies too
“I don’t think Rafa Benitez liked me as a person. I’m not sure why, but that’s the feeling I got from him.
At press conferences he might call other players by their first name but I was always ‘Gerrard.’ It was the same in the dressing room. He would read out the team and use nicknames. But, for me, it would just be ‘Gerrard.'”
He was the best tactical coach I worked with at Liverpool and England so I didn’t care what he called me."
Yes you clearly didn't.
someone being a dick to him doesn't make him not a dick
"“I showed him I was black, that I wasn’t English, but that I'm no pushover.”
Gerrard is so NOT racist he doesn't even see colour or where you are from.
read it could be season ending, but no confirmation on that.
it just mentioned Euro 2016 so I thought it meant season ending. out til xmas looks likely.
Just don't give a shit. Has football got shit (yes, I know I'm probably shit too)? I really think it's gone a bit rubbish.
(you're the guy that makes the football game I used to be addicted to, right?)
last year, but it was partly because Norwich were relegated. I can't imagine the weird existential crisis it has been as a Rangers (and Scotland) fan over the last few years and frankly I don't want to.
when we equalised against the world champions twice?
Not completely sure what I said at the time to my (German) girlfriend that made her not speak to me for ages, but yeah that was amazing. I still (sort of) get that buzz with Scotland, it hasn't changed. Sort of get that on the rare occasion I watch Dundee Utd or Ayr.
I'm talking about watching football as a neutral. I just don't care. I set up a Fantasy Football team for the first time in 5 years (normally I get hooked on it) - not really that interested in it.
I watched MOTD2 last night and couldn't get by the hyperbole of it all. Sky Sports is awful for this - for completely hyping up average rubbish, the Utd v Liverpool match being an obvious one. It's just a bit dull. I wish I was excited about Champions League starting up. I'm not. Maybe I'll start watching from the knockouts, I dunno.
It's not quality I want to see; just a bit of thunder, character, passion, maybe a fight every now and again, just something different.
"It's not quality I want to see; just a bit of thunder, character, passion, maybe a fight every now and again, just something different."
after watching Tim Sherwood's Villa on MOTD2??
Actually, I did see that. Almost felt bad for him.
Developing a bit of a soft spot for Leicester now.
still as bad as I imagined.
and Ambrose and Nemane are currently playing in the youth Champions League, so it's time for Brandon Barker, Droylsden's finest, to shine!
WHICH WILL BE BEST TO WATCH THANKS
then consider the relative stature of their opponents, then consider on their continental group form which of the English sides is likely to crash and burn hilariously, before coming to an informed decision about that.
(chance of an upset x enjoyment of seeing them lose)/tedium of seeing them win = ?
"good to hear pantomime boos"
Channel 426/458 on Sky. I don’t have BT, not sure if this channel is usually available or not.
You cant spend 3 Billion (all in) since the takeover & not get out of the group stages in the Champions League ffs!
Just saw a replay of it and it's a definite red, and looked like a break too :/
Hopefully a clean uncomplicated break that he'll come back from.
how you change the name of the competition and some of City's players look like completely different people.
Juventus look toothless and/or uninterested. Sterling looked quite good early on.
going through midfield a couple of times too, neither of which the ref has given fouls for. If you're looking for a decent game of football, one which involves an Italian side and a ref who is lenient on midfield fouls isn't going to help.
even Silva is hitting sloppy passes
Christ, looks awful. Poor guy, let's hope he can bounce back from this! :(
there really is no point in those officials behind the goal is there
but the day I have sympathy for Chiellini in a situation like that, is the day Satan skates to work.
whatever your opinion of Chiellini that was a definitie foul and it would have been an injustice if they won by a goal that should never have stood, let's hope Juventus can go on and win now.
and they are the ones who have scored a proper goal and not a cheaty goal
but appear to have learned nothing from our Champions league experiences so far.
2 good chances for Bony and 2 good chances for Sterling spunked away, slow play and sloppy passing.
constantly surprised by how badly Man City under-perform in the Champions League
Loss in Germany coming up next, triggering a rapturous journalist frenzy predicting Greeny gone by January, followed by a sketchy double over Sevilla and a win over Juventus after they've already qualified, scraping us through to the next round where we'll get thoroughly kerbstomped by Bayern. Probably pick up a cool two grand on all of that.
Defended him for a while now on the basis he isn't Dzeko, but fuck me has Bony been dire since he joined us.
Mad to sell him.
the thing is about the teams you'd think we were trying to emulate, they boss possession *quickly*. their players move when their teammates are looking to pass.
United right now = Schweini standing still, as if to say, "no, you move. you are the ones who are supposed to move.".
would be much less frustrated if that was another possession first, cautious nothing-game that we'd just lost but there was clearly something a bit more interesting happening and getting their bums tickled on the counter attack means van gaal is never going to set them up so offensive again.
impressed with martial, from all the talk of him being inconsistent i thought he was gonna be some floaty wide forward like memphis. looked like a really competent back to goal striker, got muscled a few times but managed to nip round the corner and still steal the ball. needs to learn to stay away from the ball in possession a bit more if they're gonna play him as a centre forward.
but at the death - again - we were so poor in the final third. alarming how we've failed to adapt to breaking down the modern organised defence.
seen the pic of Shaw's break. :( utterly luckless, that lad. hope we fix him up good as new in the Toshiba medical centre. really hope his career doesn't stall. he's such a talent, and seems like a nice guy.
all seems to fall over, no idea why, should be the opposite given possession and that... they were making unprecedented amounts of chances (for united under van gaal, was probably only 5 or 6) up to about the 70th minute though, even despite mata being a passenger.
wasn't fully on board with shaw last year but he has been superb so far this season, hope like everyone's saying that a break, while more brutal, is less serious than a knee or ankle ligament injury.
anthony martial looks like dr dre when he was in medical school
yeah, he has that same look of ineffable coolness. and he was making us tick, he was the reason we were making chances. if Rooney had been fit and playing, it would have been turgid.
I've rated Shaw all long. didn't understand the criticism of him last season, he always looked pretty decent. really stepped up this season, though. we're badly gonna miss him.
got to stop playing Mata out wide.
that his fast-paced runs into the box invite those kinds of tackles at high speed and injuries are inevitable (not excusing them). Some people drawing parallels to how Wilshere gets crocked.
Hope Shaw makes a full recovery, but it's a dreadful injury and terrible timing in terms of his development. Could have implications for Euro 2016.
most players would have pulled up and tried to ride the challenge instead of planting the foot and trying to get a shot away and that shaw was a bit giddy to be in front of goal.
might be a bit daft to try and look for a pattern in it, dunno.
you should be able to be an all-action player and not get horribly injured like that.
"The injury to Luke Shaw was
difficult for me to watch, and I can
sit happily and watch Korean horror
for fuck's sake, Pat.
Pretty superficial stuff.
Was genuinely the only person not wearing a black bubble jacket.
