what's up with that, huh?
someone may reach adulthood without being able to swim.
some sort of disability
fucking hell you're quite a nasty person aren't you?
bit of a habit of hammering mods/others on the personal email/text until he gets let back in tho, if anyone's looking for tips
what a creep
Will get in touch if they do.
that's simply not true. we've been here before dude.
"he has my email address and i can't be arsed with the constant harassment when he can't login."
there has been zero harrassment, couple of emails back and forth. nothing more...you shit-stirring cunt.
show your workings, or shut the fuck up, huh
and humans in general
not cool, man. not cool
you're making it seem like I've sent you 24 separate emails. nice work
still got the emails, if you want me to c&p. otherwise, fuck off
People didn't really give a fuck about swimming until the 80s
Have you used it correctly?
in fact on monday there when i was still on holiday we'd all been drinking all day and decided it would be a great idea to swim out to a floating kids fun park type thing about 8 in the evening, i was quite far out when i realised i was shit faced and struggling a bit, a wave (pardon the pun) of panic swept over me and i headed back.
In summary don't swim out far when buckled.
haven't swam / swum (?) in a few years, maybe i should get back into it
learning to swim, more important than learning to read.
If you know you can't swim you just wouldn't jump into water would you. It's not like not knowing how to balance, when balancing is a fundamental part of everyday life.
And she didn't do swimming lessons at school.
As a result - she can't swim but has taught herself how to tread water at least.
She can't ride a bike either - for the above reasons.
They're just nineties videogame protagonists.
You're getting lunch or whatever, something goes wrong, they touch the water and boom instakill. Pricks.
He couldn't swim himself.
Ultimate "can't do, teach" I reckon
"Right you lot. Jump in there and flap your arms and legs about, until you get to the other side."
whilst not technically being able to ride a bike myself (tried loads of times when I was younger always ended badly). I did learn during the process of teaching her though.
It was such a big part of my social ilfe growing up (we lived near a lido and swimming was our Saturday morning fun) that it seems unfathomable.
however, if you were brought up in a family where perhaps a parent didn't swim, then I can see why 'family swimming funtimes' would not be on the agenda, and not all schools have it as part of their syllabus (which I find shocking).
bizarrely, a lot of fisherman and navy seagoers seem to no/ or maybe cannot swim- it's a weird kind of badge of honour perhaps?
so if they went overboard it would be all over for them that much quicker. Not sure if it's ever been true though. Remember one Ray Mears episode where he was with some families in the Russian tundra who literally spend most of their lives on the shore of or on boats on a series of lakes, fishing and stuff, and none of them know how to swim, because it's never warm enough for them to go in the water.
Ex merchant navy officer. Can't swim, was never taught as a child as his parents were both disabled, and then he joined the navy as soon as he was old enough, where you are not allowed to learn (so he says).
so I'll stay out of it.
how old would you have been in 2007?
Makes it sound like he died pre-2007.
but then again I did have a lot of problems with my gross motor/developmental delay, also broke my leg couple of times as well as a kid, had a bout of serious illness which had me hospitalised for a bit, basically I was a bit special growing up I'm fine now but learning to swim wasn't a priority. This thread has brought back a lot of memories, thanks Silkyskillz11.
and they start shouting 'I can't swim!' and no-one ever says
instead of 'serves you right you fucker, you deserve to drown'
must be a Friday!
I've always said that swimming is an expensive thing to learn and far from universal.
as he seems to think that every kid in history learns to swim?
*sinks under water, struggles for breath*
non swimming weirdos in this thread tbh
MARLON: Roscoe I am a drowning man, like from the Cure song
ROSCOE: Swim to safety
MARLON: I can't swim, m8. I chose to study English Literature instead of English Language or Swimming at school
ROSCOE: Just guess. It is basically just thrashing around and then you can walk around in the water
MARLON: OK then
I was never taught. I can do the frog one but thats it.
Recently I wanted to learn how to swim properly so investigated lessons. £300 for 1 term. NO TA.
if you buy yourself a float, you can teach yourself how to do front crawl pretty easily. use the float to practise your kicking and breathing, then you can work on your arms seperatly
Two quid a small group session at cally pool. Done.
Will try to learn in the next 6 months.
Was on holiday while my gf and mates swam in the sea while I sat on the shore with everyone's stuff, crying.
But she looked into the middle distance as she said it :(
Surely those "who can't swim" have the vaguest idea of what to do in order to swim. Y'know, waggle limbs, propel forwards. Lame.
and haven't tried in years so i class myself as a non swimmer.
i think i have a bit of a phobia of putting my face underwater in case i DROWN so that sort of holds me back
for the first time in like ten years. Turns out he couldn't. Even though he could swim when he was younger.
thought it'd be like riding a bike e.g. once you learn you don't forget?
but then again in this country 99% of people live right next to a beach and swimming is quite a big cultural thing so that's different i guess.
if i lived in england i'd never want to swim because it's freezing so fair.
We had swimming lessons through primary school every week I think at our state school. As a result can swim to a decent standard, although I don't think I've swum properly in years.
(Swum's a weird word to type innit).
But I am really great at the breast stroke.
It does not mean what you think it means.
