Kind of. Don't know what's going. Is it April 1st? Feels like the end of world. abc.xyz is it? Hmm
(at which point, Pichai becomes CEO of Alphabet)
the other companies that google previously owned will now be under the alphabet umbrella, separate from google. Alphabet is effectively a holding company for several portfolio companies, which include google, which will be its biggest by far. They have a shit ton of money to spend (around $200 in spare cash i think?) and will probably be looking to use it to boost revenue to diversify.
Google almost taking on a more classic conglomerate form.
Spare a thought for alphabet.com, which has now crashed.
really hasn't got the same ring to it. This is a terrible idea.
smells like some kind of tax avoidance scheme
Google is still Google. The two lads now run it under the umbrella of Alphabet, which is a terrible company name, but who am I to judge.
If this is a genuine change, despite the rushed blog post, the name is suitably childish enough to tally with their 'children's building blocks' colour scheme, (other companies use this childish colour scheme too, e.g Nintendo) and we just won't be ready for it when the winged, wheeled, Wizard of Oz multi-colour google-bots fly into our windows to retrieve our first-born.
Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all shares of Google will automatically convert into the same number of shares of Alphabet, with all of the same rights. Google will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alphabet. Our two classes of shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG.
Where's the facebook group for forcing them to go back to the way it was? What's the best hasthtag to use to feed the backlash twitterstorm?
If so: bd
