Time to stop pretending you like cricket, tennis, and golf lads! It's back!
Man Utd 4 – 1 Tottenham
Bournemouth 3 – 0 Villa
Everton 2 – 0 Watford
Leicester 0 – 0 Sunderland
Norwich 1 – 1 Crystal Palace
Chelsea 4 – 0 Swansea
Arsenal 3 – 0 Wham
Newcastle 2 – 2 Southampton
Stoke 2 – 1 Liverpool
West Brom 2 – 0 City
and we are all thankful for it.
to reflect upon what a beautiful thing it is that Liverpool have to go back to Stoke straight away :")
Hope I haven't stepped on your toes by starting the first weekend thread of the season!
doesn't sit comfortably with me at all. Cannot wait until approx. 3.18pm when an ecststic Troy Deeney is celebrating in front of me and I'm screaming vile insults at Tim Howard. Soccer!
and votes were thus...
1st - Chelsea (20), Arsenal (5), United (4), City (1).
2nd - Chelsea (10), United (12), Arsenal (7), City (1).
3rd - Arsenal (14), United (8), City (8).
4th - City (15), United (6), Arsenal (4), Liverpool (4), Spurs (1).
wonder if they'll have evolved their style or be the same bunch of twats as last year? (hint: it'll be the latter). they've also signed Jonathan Douglas from us on a free, so he's nailed on for a goal. some twats will boo him, hope he decks them.
not sure how we'll do this year, reckon we might get off to a slow start then pick up and end up like 10th but we'll see. when we were signing people who sounded good and only letting fringe players leave I was optimistic we'd push on and maybe challenge for automatic promotions, but with Dallas gone to Leeds (shame but understandable) , Douglas gone to Ipswich (shame but also understandable), Odubajo off to Hull (should have held out for a better move), Gray probably off to Hull (shame but for like £7m that'll do) and someone will probably try and sign another one or two by the end of the month I'm not sure if we've merely stood still or slightly regressed.
10-1 to Brentford today pls
how come you don't post that much about football on your Twitter account? is it unbecoming?

Pretty shambolic this morning.

#newlook #youth #4-0loss
Of 1-1. Tbh just so PUMPED to be here #lovedmytime
Neville Neville has died. Heart attack on the way to Australia to watch Tracey's England netball team.
5-1 Man U, Rooney first goalscorer, nice
Bottom half finish if they line up like that every week.
and replace misc. shit midfielder #1 with dier
I'd completely forgotten how awful Van Gaal's unite are to watch. Dull.
we have no authority in the final third atm. whereas Spurs look really athletic and threatening.
Depay just playing with back to goal. we need him running at them.
ahaha, just as I go to press send...
for Rooney to be near a free kick.
like it a lot.
looks like all the panels are peeling off
on wednesday, shrewsbury and stevenage to be promoted.
or is my stream a bit dodgy?
Big fan of a sash on a football shirt, hence me using River Plate on FIFA/Pro Evo, but I dunno, this one looks a bit rubbish.
there really is no point to Rooney anymore. he's just Juan Mata without all the skill and invention, now.
play Jam Jazz in his position, yeah?
Schweinsteiger -new brain in the body. like yer man in District 9 when he gets in the mech suit; once he gets the team to do what he wants it to do, we'll start wrecking up the place.
Smalling - at the end of this season, there won't be any doubters left. already had the pace and strength, now he has the intelligence and composure.
Darmian - totally solid. just does the right thing every time.
Schneiderlin, Mata, Shaw, all good. Romero also a decent (place)keeper.
Is there a more depressing job than being a fan of that rubbish season after season?
that jurado at watford has nice eyebrows
Lovely first half though, Watford's defense was huge and Gomes has saved our asses a while bunch of times, so gymnastic!
has he been involved in the goals? nifty little player.
pretty happy Barkley's netted, thought I'd made a foolish FPL pick.
he just reads out the vidi printer, I could do that wow the bbc doesn't half waste some money...
i guess there's fuck all for him to do now
sheff utd getting battered still funny though
Big Eddie undone by Tactics Tim!
Hope Eddie gets another 25 mil to splodge before the window shuts!
good old Brentford
I'm so excited.
Better side on the day, as i'm sure Maureen and the Chelsea fans will be quick to admit.
Such a sweetheart.
I was busy scoring 39 in a partnership of 137 as my team won by over 100 runs, so I have no idea if our comfortable-seeming 2-0 win was as comfortable as I've heard it was
I'd hate to be the team playing them next...
First Angels away game in ages. Never had so many people do double takes at me as today, trying to work out what team's shirt/scarf I'm wearing is. Won 1-0, brilliant result in the face of shit refereeing and against a team who should've been in the playoffs last season but for a terrible decision by the league to deduct points. Their ground is very odd (random oil canister type thing by the pitch, got an athletics track round it, bar/stand structure is a concrete monstrosity although the balcony bit was cool) but fans were friendly. Took a friend who's never been to a non league game and he enjoyed it. Hope we can keep up the momentum against Grays on Tues. Was a bit lucky - Enfield were better - but not going to complain.
a new low
Even worse than The Premiership on ITV. Way too much "banter". The FL Show on BBC with Manish & Claridge was perfect and aimed at an intelligent audience; this is lowest common denominator stuff.
Looked like more of a rounded side last season and played some great football. Not much to hate there now they've got rid of Szczesny and Wilshere's out. Even find the constant selfies much less annoying now they rile Roy Keane. You'd have to be an absolute nutter to prefer United or Chelsea to win the league. Going to try to watch them with an open mind this season.
this is an interesting read https://sports.vice.com/en_uk/article/is-raheem-sterling-overpriced-football-inflation-and-the-transfer-window
20 year old who's been a club & international regular for 2/3 years, won european young player of the year, has obvious scope for improvement, premier league experience & helps with the quota. £40m plus add-ons seems about right
Don't think City need Sterling AND de Bruyne, but the fees aren't over the top, more that they look comparatively poor value compared to what great footballers cost years ago. Sterling could have 10-12 years in him at the highest level.
Actually think de Bruyne would prove a snip for whoever signs him at that sort of price. He's just been voted the best player in Germany. In what world is the standout player in the world's best league (#onion) not worth more than David Luiz?
as most farcically top-heavy side going will be complete.
Our best defender is Martin Demichelis, no shit. Our attack is still the best in the league, but if you compare the defensive units, including the midfield cloggers or lack of them, we have a much softer centre than even Arsenal or United now.
but it seems the reservation is that it would be a massive amount for someone who got binned off by Chelsea a year ago. Which is obviously silly because a) all Chelsea players are cunts and b) Chelsea binned off Matic and then he got awesome.
The vast majority of players involved in transfers in that price range have not been as young as 20 - only Lucas Moura stands out as an equivalent signing. He hasn't established himself enough to suggest that it isn't somewhat of a gamble.
for kicking it
never seen people get so excited about a team putting 5 consecutive passes together as well
hard to argue against, really.
they have to be considered contenders.
There IS not much to hate about this Arsenal team.
At least Chelsea aren't the biggest fuck ups of the weekend. I love how it only takes 90 minutes of a season to put Arsenal fans back in their box.
Doesn't bode well for Man City at West Brom.
a bollock there.
what a shambles. 500 odd games with barely any errors, two shockers on his arsenal premier league debut. what an abject performance though, total collective failure. ox was pretty much the only positive from that. three points pissed up the wall, but another 111 to go for so need to just get our heads up and wipe a very bad day at the office out of our minds.
how very arsenal though, taking one of the most consistent and reliable goalkeepers and getting some comedy errors in his first game. ooh to be a gooner etc.
big credit to west ham, very good defensive performance. not the first time adrian's had a very good game against us.
It's purely people finding humour in a big club/top side losing. It's just the same when it's Chelsea, United, City or Liverpool. Par for the course innit.
would/will be 10 times funnier this year given the hype.
was a really good game.
ozil was back to being pants again, which was nice
Most consistent English midfielder in the league for the last ten years
the rest addons apparently. hth
Getting your accounts mixed up now, big maaan?
(this is GREAT BANTER and i hope it goes on all season).
bugduv or thumbinasuit?
Genuinely can't tell.
either way, what a horrible, horrible way to start a new season
unless two needy bellends are pretending to be him and the other one is just better
Oh look Songs of Praise is on.
Bear shits in woods
Jamie Vardy is a racist
as they would've liked to have won that game and they are a decent and moral team. I'm pretty sure they'll do well this season
if the rest of the big 4 + 2 weren't all so underwhelming/boring/mourinho
at least arsenal try.
maybe man city will do some good stuff
Chelsea could probably defend their way to a European Cup, but that's at a push. There's never been a bigger gap between the money rolling into the Premier League and the comparative greatness of our clubs vs the best. I almost sort of miss those nights where United and Liverpool stuck it to top continental teams on ITV.
Schneiderlin and Damian looked great for United yesterday. Mata seemed to have a great influence too. What will thumbinasuit make of us being the early pace setters? The book I'm currently reading about him suggests he may have autism.
The latter especially.
Because that's a thing now?
Jerome's goal being disallowed was such nonsense tho
