show and tell
why not though?
to have it forever emblazoned on my skin.
but I don't think it would suit me. I'm way too indecisive and my taste for it would almost certainly change over time so there'd be no point really.
something too specific/ personal and you could go off it but something general/ timeless and it seems like a cliche.
i want one though
people i know have got like a few on the same arm and then had them joined up into a sleeve and it's just loads of random little tattoos
looks good but he regrets it
It's really annoying having to be polite to friends that get tehse rank things put on their skin 'ooooh, how... interesting'
'it's very..... vibrant'
'what a strong look!'
when what I really mean ins 'yuk, you're going to regret that in about five minutes you idiot.'
Never seen a single tattoo that I haven't thought looks stupid and makes its owner look stupid.
you don't have to pretend to like something you don't like, but this is the first time I think I've ever disagreed with your stance on something so vehemently.
Maybe the cigarette too
my friends a nurse and has a nurse on her arm and its like YES
fluffy dogs not so much cause of all the fluff
if i have a breakdown when my dogs dies i'll probably get something like that
of someone working in our profession
while not deserving the priviledge
or, Man With Many Hats
and know people with plenty of embarrassing tattoos that regret them. also know people who dislike their tattoos (for reasons such as the artist etc.) but don't regret getting them done.
not interested in anything enough to get a tattoo of it. when i was 18 i toyed with the idea of getting an anatomical-style bee done. glad i didn't.
at a place in glsgow, and thankfully they shut before it was turn. I was gong to get a black cat done on my inner thigh. Praise the fucking lord that the girl in front of me was a bleeder and took an hour longer than expected.
Never seen such a bunch of anti-tattoo people as on DiS.
Last one I got was a magpie with a spoon in it's mouth. Scott Move did it for me, I love it. It regards to Spoon Theory.
would love to get the one I've had planned on my right arm done but always have money commitments elsewhere.
Only a moron tries to draw a moustache on the mona lisa
I want the Hungarian coat of arms on the inside of my left bicep.
Just dunno if I'll ever actually get it done. Hmm.
colour or black and white? are there things you can't get due to copyright issues?
as its against scripture
jook and guntrip
It's a band's logo
Why has no-one done this yet
Think ground zero would be a more fitting illustration of a lifestyle than this tin-hattery
These are all I have so far: https://instagram.com/p/na36T1h4FV/
I have the motto of the tennis academy in Infinite Jest tattooed on my left bicep (TE OCCIDERE POSSUNT SED TE EDERE NON POSSUNT NEFAS EST which DFW translates as 'they can kill you but the legalities of eating you are quite a bit dicier') above a little eclipsed moon thing that he uses to separate chapters.
I also have 'I am in here' tattooed on my chest (a reference to the opening chapter of Infinite Jest). TWO IJ tattoos.
Lastly, two mountains with the moon hanging in-between them with 'BURIED IN SPACE' written underneath referencing the Mount Eerie song 'Between Two Mysteries'
The town rests in the valley beneath twin peaks, buried in space
What goes up there in the night, in that dark, blurry place?
Driving to work in the morning, we live in graves
Always trying to climb out of the hole, buried in space
tattoed on my right calf where hipster bike courier wannabes all have tattoos.
Think they're all stupid and I love all of them.
Less morbid than taxidermy
L E F T
R I G H T
across my knickles
that is proper stupid tho
i don't have any but would quite like one - maybe when i get married or have a baby or something
who would never regret a tattoo. So I say go for it!
FUCK YOU ROYTER
across my forehead
although it means a lot more than just I REALLY LIKE ELLIOTT SMITH so I really like having it. want to get some more but not sure where to get the next one; the one I have now is quite hidden and I like that.
But the tattoo artist said their insurance wouldn't have covered the inevitable structural damage she would incur
Quite like the idea of having some sheet music if a favourite song spiral down an arm. I can't pull off any look or attempt to look cool, it would ruin tattoos for everyone if I got one
It's on my neck.
too much of a wimp
when I was younger: http://factmag-images.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/eighties_matchbox_logo_large.jpg
I don't think I would have regretted as they were/probably still are my favourite band, but i'm really glad I didn't go through with it.
Would've looked a right cunt
but I'm in very mild danger if I ever get very drunk with someone who suggest getting a tattoo, of getting 'Modern Life is Rubbish' stamped on me somewhere, maybe my inner bicep. Or some dice rolling in reference to Charles Bukowski's Roll the Dice poem.
Lots of you have seen the ones I have, don't really feel like posting pix of them going by some of the responses in this thread though :|
(like right now) cause what if I regret it, what if it doesn't turn out right, what if I just get really sick of it etc. Granted it's only about five years since I got my first tattoo but I still love all of them. Even if maybe I'd have had them done differently now or whatever (which I don't really think that much about, they're just kind of there tbh) they're still a part of me as much as any other part of my body and reminds me of different stuff, just like a scar or something might do as well.
Also: the feeling of a brand new tattoo – you can't beat it. This is why people get addicted to them.
(I can deal with the actual sitting, and the stinging is OK, but the itching is a drag) I like how long it takes to forget it's there. Like, every now and then it's a surprise that you have it. I really like seeing other people's too. I pretty much just use Instagram to follow tattoo artists. There are loads of ridiculously talented people. That's why it's always a shame when you see someone with a slightly rubbish one.
...I still need to confirm the appointment though, oops
It was completely by chance that I ended up going to her last time, but she was good and I felt really comfortable with her. And when I started thinking about this new one I checked out more of her portfolio online and she's done a lot of really good stuff and lots of different styles as well so I'm really excited about it.
Yeah the itching is awful, but I love watching how it changes day by day and like seeing the actual tattoo emerge once the dead skin starts shedding. Ooooh I'm getting so excited now :D
I'm ok with the sitting as well except I always worry that I'm suddenly going to twitch when they hit a nerve or something so I just concentrate on sitting completely still. The new one is going to be outer forearm so some of it will probably be right on the bone as well. Oh well, I'm just never going to get my ribs or anything done at least
Is it going to be one of the cartoony pastel-shaded pieces? Her use of colour is lovely.
Both times I've sat I was determined not to make any facial expression in case it was interpreted as a sign of weakness. The last one was over 4 hours though, which was a bit draining. It wraps all the way around as well and the inking on the back of my arm was far more painful for some reason. I think it was just an awkward angle.
As I said I only have pretty small ones so far, they've all taken about 30-40 minutes each. New one is going to be around 1,5 - 2 hours probably.
Nah I'm mostly a black and grey kind of gal, but I want a bit of colour in it. I'm going more kind of old school-is than her cartoony work, she's well up for it though.
I'm trying to stick to mostly black and grey as well, as much as I like how some of the colour work looks I'm not sure I'd suit it, and I've heard it doesn't age as well
although tbf the ink they use these days is a lot better than than they used on people who are now old and have really faded tattoos.
I also like to wear bright colours though so don't want anything too bright or colourful on my skin.
this on the other (in negative)
and then something from the codex serafinianus somewhere idk. maybe a bird as well but a good one like a sandpiper or a wagtail
latinisation = hot
A portrait of Baron Munchausen from the Gustave Dore illustration on my left forearm that I've had for a couple of years:
And a Japanese ghost, or yurei, on my upper right arm that I had done in a guy's apartment in Tokyo earlier this year:
I have one more that I'm getting this year, a Victorian steam train on my calf (a little tribute to my hometown). And I'm going to match my brother's tattoo of our family coat of arms, even though it's shit, as a bit of a tribute to our Dad (I'm going to pick a better artist than he did, though). After that, nothing unless/until I get inspired by something. I'm not very impulsive on these things, all of mine have been pretty well planned.
pissed on polish lager and looking like I'm tugging off a horse.
Its a lighthouse or a syringe, depending on which way you look at it.
HOW THE YEAR WORKS
Dec 1 - Feb 28/29 WINTER
Mar 1 - May 31 SPRING
Jun 1 - Aug 31 SUMMER
Sep 1 - Dec 31 WINTER
Tempted to get one myself after years of utter indifference but no idea what to go for.
Any idea what kind of style you would want, like old school, cartoony, etc? For my first tattoo I decided what style I wanted first and then the actual tattoo and it worked out great.
On your chest?
but in 18 months no-one will remember who Corbyn is and I'd look like a right mug.
on a scroll across a heart?
I'm not sure i like anything enough right now to get it put on my skin permanently. i get nervous enough about getting a haircut ffs, let alone something that won't grow out fairly quickly.
sometimes there is a guy on my train home who has a Lego Wolverine tattoo on his arm, looks well good. a friend is due to get one of a pigeon soon, picture they showed me that they wanted looked pretty good so that will hopefully come out nicely.
Actually always used to think how awful it was any time I saw it :)
Such a strange thing to get done.
but there was this photo of her on FB which was really unflattering, she had her mouth open and looked like a screaming mental.
He got that picture tattooed on his shoulder so she could never forget it.
Sounds like psychological abuse. I have a few ideas of revenge tats she can get.
there were an unfathomable amount of tattoos.
An unfathomable amount!
It didn't hurt very much but it was really small compared to the following ones
A giant peach in the Big Apple, being shot at by helicopters.
BFG v NYC
(tenuous Roald Dahl link, there)
once came in with a newly shaved head to reveal a tattoo of A FOX'S HEAD ON THE SIDE OF HIS HEAD.
A FOX'S HEAD ON THE SIDE OF HIS HEAD.
If you change your mind, or fancy looking more conservative, grow the hair. When you want to see it, shave the hair. Also to my knowledge it would really hurt there as the skin is relatively thin.
good job male pattern baldness is relatively rare these days
from a distance they look like hare.
Ba dum tsh
"^this" on my knuckles
I'd get a tattoo on my ring finger as I never wear jewellery. I'd probably encourage him to get the same, or an image of my face on his arse, so if he cheats on me the other person will be like 'lol who's that on your arse?'
