And it's very 'close' here.
Felt surprisingly sprightly this morning in spite of a late night. It's too humid today. Not sure I'm going to be even the tiniest bit productive after a team restaurant lunch today.
Cycled in this morning because I've got house viewings at lunch time and after work that I wouldn't make otherwise.
Feel vindicated in my decision to usually walk. Only saved 10 minutes, and for my troubles I've got a horribly sweaty back, messed up hair and a sore perineum. If I wanted all that I'd just go for a roll in the hay with Ol' Ma Warny.
Weekend, though, eh.
Nice pleasant walk vs having to faff with a bike at both ends of the trip, plus dodging pedestrians who are intent on throwing themselves into your path and cars not giving you enough room. Not worth it for the ten minutes saved.
I love getting out on my bike in my free time, but that just wasn't fun.
Horrible weather tbh, and now Sunday's forecast has changed from lovely sun to RAIN.
Tonight: drinks with work people I think?
Tomorrow: going for dim sum / dunno what in evening, I do need to go and get my bike marked in the morning though, must remember that
Sunday: seeing a preview of Eden then was gonna go to Lambeth Country Show but if it rains, fuck that
Trying to book Four Tet tickets at 10am, fingers crossssssssssed
I'm staying in over in Portsmouth (midweek football) in a couple weeks and wondered about hopping on the ferry.
Will you just be there for a day?
Would consider a night in a BnB though
I'm guessing you won't have your own transport? Which makes seeing the more... interesting stuff harder. Anyway. If you are thinking of taking a car then it is much easier.
From Pompey you can get the hovercraft or catamaran to Ryde, takes 20 minutes or something? (If you're taking a car you'll need to take the car ferry to Fishbourne). Ryde has a nice sandy beach and typical seaside amusements. Can be well busy in the summer obvs. It's quite nice walking along to Puckpool where they have crazy golf I believe. Further afield there's Shanklin and Sandown (said side of the IoW), acessible by (expensive) bus. Sandown has a pier with terrible amusements but I love it. You can walk between the two towns and get an ice cream, usually it's a bit quieter along this stretch of beach.
There's fucking LOADS of good pubs on the IoW, most of them in Cowes (quite good for a pub crawl) but a bit full of "yachties". Loads of other ones dotted around but I have so many recommendations I'd need to know where you were basing yourself before making any.
pn's "top" IoW tips: Garlic Farm. IoW House of Chilli. West Wight Alpacas. Dimbola Lodge (if you like old photography). Compton Bay. The New Inn, Shalfleet. The White Hart, Havenstreet. The Bugle, Yarmouth (+ Yarmouth Pier, 20p fee). Cowes pubs. BLACKGANG CHINE. Walking between Shanklin and Sandown. Walking up Tennyson Down.
I'm driving down but almost tempted to leave the car in Pompey so I can go on the hovercraft!
If you want a lil seaside day out then it'd be PERFECT.
let's be having you.
Walked past a delivery driver fucking blasting 'Rock DJ' out of his van this morning on my way home. Bit early at 07:35 for that sort of carry on.
Bus was ten minutes late this morning and took twenty minutes longer getting to work after that. Going to power through this workday, go home and defrost the freezer over a few beers and then I'll go out for my friend's birthday.
*Couldn't think of an acronym for Epimers. Eps?
I forgot my purse. I have £1.90 in change to last me the day. HELP.
*nb I'm quite new at work so don't really know anyone well enough to ask them to lend me a fiver!
So Portishead were brilliant last night. As you'd expect. Latitude go-ers, you're in for a treat. As you'd expect.
My parents arrive today and the plumbers reckon it'll take another 3 days to fit the boiler. And they don't work weekends. This is going to be fun.
Really want to see Portishead, they've been on my list for years. Glad you had a good time co-ho! What was the setlist like?
Third heavy maybe but they played everything I ever wanted to hear live apart from maybe Only You. Great video display as well - from weird watercolour animations to short movies via government baiting anti-austerity stuff. Just impeccable from top to bottom. The only downside on the evening was the large number of chattering twats who wouldn't shut up during Wandering Star or Roads.
I'm going to Lord's on Sunday to watch the cricket. I was inordinately happy about this a week ago but after yesterday's snoozefest and the weather taking a turn for the shitter I'm feeling less ecstatic. Still, beers in the rain is still beers, that's the real quiz...right?
he had a good face.
We also 'sort of' brewed our own beer and its ok, all you do is put yeast and water in and then leave it for 10 days and you get dark ale. Quite nice from the pint I had last night, bit watery though.
Also wrote another shit jingle on my keyboard.
Today I am going to play videogames I think cos the thinly veiled has hogged the shit out the tv playing splatoon for fucking ages.
Yuggy - the kind of face you'd be delighted to have accompany you to a beer festival.
Ruffers - I can now picture the gleeful mischief behind every thread.
mme meet up soon plz <3
Can't wait to slip and click that.
Today's my Friday. Gonna be a nice weekend I hope.
Is yr landlord situation on its way to being sorted?
Week wednesday the council's coming round, think he's moving all my worldly possessions into storage for a day while I'm in work. If anything gets broken I'm breaking him.
Going back to Wales this evening then getting a lift back as some folks I know from home are playing a gig in London so that's convenient.
How about you Fints?
what's it like heading home now? I know you were definitely ready to leave when you headed to the lme...
Hosting a bbq on Saturday, really looking forward to it, my grilling game is at its peak by this point and ive got quite a few faces to fill. Then it looks like rain on Sunday so once everyone's fucked off we're gonna get out the blankets and chill on the sofa for a day. We might have a pop at mario bros U, still haven't finished it.
Friday dude, nearly there.
I might have a go a bit later.
It's actually really nice going home now, there's no life wasting existential angst going around. Just checking up on the folks really.
That sounds lovely though, love a good barbeque. Plus once you've impressed everyone with your grilling skills there's every chance they buy you more grilling stuff for special occaisions. Before you know it you'll be grill king.
Sun's out, going to be hard to not have a couple of pints at lunch. And from there, who knows.
Kill me now.
EVENING: Wrestling show in Forest Town with the missus, maybe staying up til 4am to watch the first Man Utd friendly.
TOMORROW: Ol' DiSer Thesoundofb***ards stag do.
SUNDAY: Seeing the rents.
Dropped a run and scored a catch. Or something like that. Shut up.
Ribs are absolutely fucked. Feel liked I'm being stabbed with a scaffolding pole. Went to the posh womans house last night. Met her 13 year old son and just played civilization 5 and nuked belgium. Take THAT thewarn! Busy weekend ahead. Blood Bowl tonight with 'theLADS', open day tomorrow, wedding reception at night, then more gaming with 'theLADS' Sunday. Earth shattering stuff.
and it didn't do me any harm?
I went through in detail about scipios defeat of Hannibal at the battle of Zama! I'm enriching him!
Or failing that, a nanny.
about what you did with her son, what did you do with the PW??
did she seduce you?
why do your ribs hurt?
(yes I am your big sister, yes you must tell me the truth)
No, I ran a million miles last time she tried. Has some dinner, went for a walk, sat on her TIERED garden. Was very civilized. No idea about the ribs, started hurting on the way to work. The brown sauce still hidden in your office?
lurking behind my in-tray! everytime I try to take it back to the kitchen someone is milling around.
How odd on the ribs, I had costochondritis last year, it just came out of nowhere and was really sore. Anti inflammatory pills helped.
I'm on it!
Got 5 playstations and 5 foghorns on the way. Big Daz doesnt like to be messed about.
my main objective today will be to survive. went out for drinks after work yesterday and i didn't even have that many but it fucking ruined me. starting to feel a bit better after a frankly disgusting burger king bacon roll, but still. doesn't help that my wife is off today because someone's coming round to investigate the kitchen slugs. i want to have a day off too :(
and then go lie in bed, put my headphones, close my eyes on and listen to the new Jason Isbell album :-)
Let said dog off lead by the river last night. Was a bit scared he'd jump in. Instead he saw some crows and chased them so far away it was impossible to tell which of the black dots was the dog and which were the crows. He came back eventually though, so all good.
Also, the new Jason Isbell album is really good* :-)
*Then again the chance of me not liking a Jason Isbell album was very very low.
Full of energy too I'd say.
We had a King Charles staying with us at the start of the week. I wish he was still there, kept getting up for work and he'd be waiting at my bedroom door for me. Absolute dote of a dog.
work is mental, I have to go to an industrial estate later to speak to a techie start up who want to float, which is extremely exciting, but COME ON. Industrial estate? Ew. I wish I hadn't worn my good shoes.
Think I might be about to do a mini spew actually, might need to head it off with some crisps.
They'd make me gawk faster actually.
I needed salt and carb to settle my retching, I'm fine now! (it may have been the can of irnbru that helped)
not got a lot planned this weekend, although it my best pal's dads 60th so out for a few with them.
actually i've got nothing today.
approx 90% of scottish weather
Our weather was like that yesterday but it was still warm so it wouldn't qualify as dreich I'd say.
Only to probably ruin it with barbecue/mates combo on Saturday in honour of Mrs stacks birthday. Have bought a gooey cake, should be good.
Seem to be getting loads done at work without trying too hard, just kind of getting on. Weird. Quite fancy a beer at lunch, that should put paid to it.
Double Cup is the fucking best, right?
That and They Want My Soul are probably the records I've listened to most this year. Double Cup manages to soothe and excite in equal measure, it's amazing. So soulful too. Gaaah I love it.
May well have to bring the kids in
Brought load of ice creams in today for the team, waiting until all the kids go at lunchtime before getting them out though
Weekend is cleaning up after our bathroom is finally finished! (Except the decorating). And seeing Horrible Histories LIVE!
Hope I remember to get some this weekend.
Tonight I'm not doing much, home alone with wine most likely. Tomorrow I am going to watch/do the music for my girlfriend's pole dancing performance at Reading fringe, and then heading up to London to annoy Eltham and sleep at his house. Sunday: Football!
Doctor gave me drugs for my neck and advice for it and also my groin problem, she also checked me albert halls and they're all clear so that's something.
although the ending isn't as good to the build up to it.
And then i watched man with the iron fists, pretty pish.
With the biker gang? I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
"There has got to be a better system for this"
Last night, ate a delicious burger from lucky chip and watched lots of great bands. Tonight, going to training and possibly seeing terminator if I get out early enough. Tomorrow going to a friends barbeque.
If you see something on the news about an enraged office worker murdering an entire swarm of English language school students armed with nothing other than a sweaty high vis jacket and a day-glo yellow push bike, don't expect me to be back in the afternoon.
but now it's all OK and am back to watching the cricket
but can't afford to get there, sad times
9pm, elthamshousematejem's house.
(El, I'm going to come after Brooke's performance, but basically straight away - so be there like 7:30-8? She's not coming though)
