*watches tumbleweed roll past*
I only knew Clegg, Lamb and Farron. On the flip side I was able to name all but five of their entire bench.
Am happy to bow down to our new tumble leader
All the Blairites leave the Labour party and join the Lib Dems? Some other stuff happens. You heard it here first.
that "Boris is a legend" and bought both Clegg's full throated support for tuition fee rises and the attacks on Labour for causing the recession. He was strongly in the Lamb camp, so based on that alone it's probably a good thing that Farron won.
for holding out hope that the Lib Dems might claw back some sort of respectability. Then i look at the Labour leadership contest and feel sad about politics all over again.
with regards to the story. It's a sad day when the leader of The LIBERAL Democrats refuses to answer a simple question with a simple answer. I've never been a fan of The Lib Dems but always like strong opposition to those in power. These eight sad looking middle aged men that make up the Lib Dems in parliament won't make much in roads over the next five years.
Would you care to suggest a 'simple answer' he could have provided which would not have led to further controversy?
A. (My view) No.
I thought the LIBERAL Democrat leader would say the same. My politics are definitely right of centre and believe in equality for the LGBT community. Who the hell doesn't? The new Lib Dem leader skirting around the issue is indeed news.
For example, on Question Time, he repeatedly has been one of the only politicians of all parties who has spoken individually rather than getting in metaphorical punches at the other two parties. I generally have a lot of time for the liberal politics I've heard him espouse. That he stood up against Clegg + the modernisers' reversal of policy on tuition fees is a good test of what kind of man he is.
Homosexual-gate is a non-story for me. He's explained concisely the detail of why he voted against. He's stated clearly that he does not think as a politician his personal beliefs/religious convictions should be imposed upon others.
British Politics is in a terrible mess. There are lots of scare articles about Corbyn becoming leader of Labour, and I imagine there may well be some to come about Farron. The fact of the matter is that the New Labour governments did great damage to Britain and to the Labour Party. Out-aping the Conservatives, particularly in a right-of-centre dominated newspaper media landscape, has led us down a deeply unpleasant cul-de-sac. We're politically more atomised than before, in an inherently flawed electoral system (which through boundary changes introduced by the last coalition government is now skewed towards Conservative electoral success).
Farron, and potentially Corbyn, have to set-up consistent opposition policies. Whoever becomes leader of the Labour party needs to draw up radical policies that look ahead 50 years, not 5 years. There needs to be acceptance that it is better to be in opposition for 10 years with the right ideas than to gain power after 5 with almost the same platform as the party you are replacing.
Here's one thing that excites me: potentially the two opposition parties will be led by people who oppose Trident.
Consider this: the rash or articles about Corbyn and Farron in the media- is it not a fear that there could be two leaders of the main opposition parties who don't follow the terms of debate as they currently stand?
even if his views weren't unpleasant an harmful i don't think i could vote for a christian fundamentalist/ anyone who reads the bible that uncritically, it's asinine
Seems more likely that someone else had obtained access to the account e.g. via an unsecured device, rather than any 'hacking' taking place though.
The issue is that his religious belief continues to a target for media attention and threatens to undermine his leadership.
What a weirdo!
Supported clegg to the biter end, but not this clown
tooth and nail? ;-P
