Can someone explain the logic
going to leech off our generous welfare state, Tories being cunts, the usual.
I think traditionally, HE/uni has been a loophole which has been exploited by some (maybe not many) to enter the country and start working/living, rather than studying.
In recent years, unis and UK immigration have made it much more difficult for this to happen.
The problem doesn't really exist but the government need to be seen to be 'getting tough on immigration'
had provisions for graduating students to then go on and work for a period of time. These have been harder and harder and come by for a few years now, and might now not exist at all, but that was how Mrs HYG got a job here after her MA, before getting another job where the company sponsored her visa. God knows the untold damage she's inflicted on the nation with her presence.
In fairness, I think he might have been talking about the likes of London Met University (I think it was?) where there was actually abuse of the system and people were coming on Student visas, but never actually attending the course that they were supposedly here for. Their ability to sponsor international students was revoked and a load of genuine students were left in the lurch shortly before the beginning of the year, only being reprieved from deportation at the last minute in the courts.
I think it was only about 10% of London Met international students abusing the system, but that was still a couple of hundred people.
just because crooked institutions could give out education visas to people with no intention of studying (look how many London Excelsior College of Business Learnings there are around the place).
I don't think it was just the London Met but they were a 'real' uni that did it, because I think there was all sorts of talk of fake unis set up to just allow people to come over here and bypass our raci- sorry, our rigorous checks.
Probably not many people causing not much problem but it made some Daily Mail headlines and for that it is an important Tory policy.
making up 100% of the excuse for a policy.
which basically gives students four months to look for work after graduation on their existing student visa.
(government, not students)
I didn't really, I'm just lonely.
is a bit worrying given that (from what i can gather) it's the overseas fee-paying students that are basically propping up our higher education system.
Foreign students must be bringing in absolutely LOADS more economically than they take out, makes me wonder if it's one of the areas where the public/media/government obsession with immigration is going to really backfire.
specify you need to be studying to be eligible. Study has ended hence deportation. I have a feeling a massive amount of Uni's will have their licence to sponsor withdrawn this year due to CAS rejections. We had someone rejected by the border agency because they couldnt name 4 UK vegetables.
