but is STILL locked out of her account
Stay classy, Telegraph.
So I guess that's direct from Reuters. Maybe she requested it?
I thought Deed Poll just gave you a document that legally allowed you to use an alias (and obviously provided the govt. with a paper trail back to it) but otherwise you had no obligation to use it.
E.g. she now has a piece of paper saying she can legally open a bank account under that name or get a passport, etc. but I think she is also perfectly allowed to keep using her old name too.
to get dates
if she's executed a Change of Name Deed then she's renounced usage of her old name and declared that she'll only be known by her new one. That's the most common use of a Deed Poll and it requires you to change your name on all legal documentation - passport, driving licence, contracts... everything.
I *think* there is another document you can use that allows you to legally be known by another name for certain purposes only (e.g. if an actor you could legally be known by a pseudonym for acting purposes, but retain your name for your personal life), but even if there is such a thing that wouldn't be sufficient for Facebook's purposes as they say they require her personal legal identity.
Someone on my friend list got suspended because their name rhymes.
my GF and everyone I know who teaches uses an altered name, didn't know it was verboten
Look at this though:
"The name you use should be your authentic identity; as your friends call you in real life and as our acceptable identification forms would show."
Bit scary, innit.
to deny your claim.
you're just a brain in a tank and Zuckerberg's manning the controls?
It's certainly a reminder that you shouldn't store any photos on Facebook you don't have anywhere else and nor should you only have FB as the way to contact someone that you wouldn't want to lose track of.
Otherwise, if they come for your FB page you just have to shrug and start another, and thank them for hiding all your fucking shit.
there are loads of messages, random schoolmates, photos of a friend of a friend you are tagged in, that would all disappear. You wouldn't think to save them all (have any of us?), and there are people that you would only ever really want to contact through facebook.
Am I going to end up in the papers?
