Come on teh internets!
This sort of thing is a really nice gesture though.
but I'm too warm to work it out.
this guy in london is organising for people to buy a load of stereotypical shite from greece via him, with indiegogo taking a cut, to put some money into the greek economy, which, as it's not 100% profit that's taxed 100%, will not end up going to the greek government, so will not be used to pay off the debt. also im not very well informed, but is this 1.6 billion not just a regular payment that they're defaulting on, rather than teh sum of their debt?
it's fucking stupid. would be less stupid without the rewards, but still st upid. obviously it's not going to go anywhere near the target so it doesnt matter and i've spent too long thinking about it already
he thought it wouldn't hit the target anyway. And if it doesn't, nothing happens...
But it seems loads of people are donating.
And it's being reported as if anything that's pledged will go to Greece (but that's not how IG works is it?)
I dunno, still seems pretty cool.
so after IG take their cut, the fictitious 1.6 billion will be given to the greek government
and then the perks... uh... someone in greece.... spends about half the money on sending tat to foreigners? or the greek government does?
and, again, im not well informed, but isnt the point that the greek people have elected a government on the premise of them refusing to pay off the debt on the timetable? so this is... very stupid?
80milly for the gogo boyz
"There was a small Greek Island on offer for anyone who came in with €1.6bn, I thought that Mr Tsipras would happily accept that but IndieGoGo emailed me to say that as the Greek Government had not officially agreed to this, I wasn't allowed to offer it. A Greek lady emailed to say that she found that perk offensive, which I apologised profusely for, I certainly didn't mean offence. I was only thinking something about the size of Inchmarnock off the coast of Scotland, which I'd definitely sell if it saved the British economy."
well done, philanthropic marketing guy
Might come in useful.
