Got somewhat excited that one of the players is a celebrity lookalike.
We will watch the injury-prone Nadal, perhaps hoping that his well-documented issues don't unduly affect his performance.
I shall watch Kvitova shortly, but I expect her to prevail quite easily.
Tsonga has gotten through the first round with some powerful groundstrokes, and of course Andy Murray is on court today.
has bertens ever made an impression, maybe on a different surface? she seems a bit hapless based on the one game i watched
He sounds greasy but he drops just short of Greg's thudding stupidity. You can hear failiure in their voices though which is a silver lining.
can't decided if I like him or not.
love the way they grin for ages at the camera before/after ad breaks
can't get beyond the name.
Even though yes it's disgustingly ratings driven (I mean imagine the complaints if they didn't show those two) it seems a waste not to show every minute of Federer footage you can get
I can hardly believe he got tickets.
If Murray makes the final it will be even more spectacular than it would normally have been. Bet he goes out first round now...
Is never going to be a top tennis player is she? Her breasts are too large.. I've never seen a top ladies tennis player with large breasts
wasn't expecting Watson to push her this close in the first place tho
sloane stephens has timed her triumphant return perfectly then.
cepelova is cool.
coric-stakhovsky gone deep into a final set
Centre court was good (although more competitive matches would've been nice) but I was stuck between two sloshed poshos who seemed to think the London 2012 spirit of enjoying the company of strangers at sporting events had actually lived on. Could've done without that frankly.
saw the first set of Karlovic Ymer (which was very good actually) but flaked from the heat, went to the museum for a bit (waste of money) and then was on centre for the rest of it.
young Mark E Smith
great final passing shot from verdasco.
didn't really expect this run from watson. her 'more aggressive game' that wasn't really working elsewhere is now looking good on grass. serena next tho.
if putintseva can push venus then that could be a really good/dramatic match later
Heather "Fucking" Watson was told her next opponent was Serena. Neither she nor the commentator even bothered to mention that she hadn't (and still hasn't) even taken the court for her second round yet. Poor old Timea Babos, forever doomed to be mistaken for a shampoo.
if Krygios is an absolute disgrace or the absolute best thing tennis has seen for years. Leaning towards the latter.
so much fun to watch. sometimes crosses the line from endearing to dickhead but hopefully will grow out of that. australian fans are annoying but that's not his fault
He appears to have come on court wearing one long sleeve, just to rip the piss out of Raonic. What a hero.
Wondering a hat?
Shame though. There's a lot of potential for piss-taking with Raonic.
And we get the first visible "Fuck!" from Kyrgios...
"chalk flew up - though of course it's actually titanium pigment" yet? That's my favourite bit.
i remember when that happened to seles, fucking brutal.
he's peaking here though. i'm a vesely looks pretty uncomfortable on grass right now, not sure how he's had his best slam results here
and they're not watching Dustin Brown, then they're watching the wrong match.
both of them have enormous power and excellent touch
the hewitt win here and the halle win over nadal. seems unlikely that these aren't the 3 best performances of his career
Yer man brown has a great return of serve, gets to it quickly
Well played dusty
Those three matches could all be thrashings.
WHAT A QUIRKY CHARACTER
i don't hate him and as i say i enjoy watching him
show some decorum, you fuckin savages
The worst thing is they probably think anyone who dislikes them is just a square who wants it to stay stuffy old Wimbledon, when truth is they're just annoying pricks. Raonic - Kyrgios though, clash of two enormously dislikable sorts that was. I'd love Gasquet to beat him.
it's always just bugged me that he never became the player i thought he could become.
In that last game I think he barely got a first serve in, and probably didn't hit a single winner. Any player less dim than Dimitrov would have just put the ball back in play every point and got back in the match.
Tomic should at least have the decency to lose quickly from here.
Hawkeye definitely got it wrong.
despite both the commentators clearly thinking Hawkeye was wrong. That's your controversy right there lads!
Being the nerd I am, I replayed it frame by frame. The ball was clearly still descending after it passed the line. No way did it clip it.
Killed the only hope of a vaguely competitive match and they haven't even mentioned it again. Bit iffy.
Earlier they showed Hev out on the practice courts running around like a smiling sweary little puppy. Then they cut to Serena arriving at the club looking like she was working out what order she was going to execute every last person in the grounds.
she's managed a break.
very happy. 2 - 0 to Williams was classic #beertokens betting
with Graeme Le Saux.
she deserved to win that set (even if her first serves sucked), really got Serena rattled.
this is the first bit I've watched and it's already annoyed me
This Watson is alright. MIGHT be the first to get 50-love IMO
what is even happening
This is outstanding from her though. Really incredible.
far more gutting than just a 6-0 6-0 loss
is unbelievable. Heather's playing like a top ten player here.
there are ways of disrupting her rhythm, retrieving everything and throwing her junk which can bring out the errors in her game and watson has been doing this really really well
Nobody beats Serena playing her best, on account of her being the best player ever.
Heather has never experienced anything like this before. She's going to lose this match, but the lesson will be priceless. She now knows what the pressure is like at the very top level of her game. This time she's crumbled, but then most players do. Next time she'll remember.
Just stop with the blocked returns!
automated "you have 2 new messages" voice from Friends
and, in all likelihood, only, match I'll be watching from Wimbledon this year. It's been quite good.
and I really REALLY hate Raonic.
This match is even making me like Greg Rusedski.
just the lamest, most moronic thing ever. do I just know really awful people or are other people seeing a lot of this on their Facebooks too?
She's been absolutely amazing.
Dr living stone I presume with elementary dear watson?
Forced Serena to bring her best tennis.
now I feel terrible
before Tim Henman came around. Us oldsters still feel nostalgic about Chris Bailey, Chris Wilkinson and ahem Andrew Castle.
Jeremy Bates though? Now you're talking!
when 'astle at least took a set off Boris in the US Open. By that point we were treating wins in the mixed doubles as national triumphs.
he was dreamy
Had matchpoint against Goran in 1993. Lost it to a second serve ace, and then the match (obvs)
it was like that match all the time - pretty good but only because it was at home and never quite good enough
way WAY better than what had gone before. Sure Timmy always let us down in the end, but he always gave us a bit of hope first.
but fucking hell they just asked Serena Williams 4 straight questions about Watson without even saying that she deserved to win or played well or anything.
You've just won your twenty-fourth consecutive Grand Slam match. Any different from the others?
(I dare you to say no)
bu Gary of course you remember my 6-4 -6-7 5-5 game at Cincy in 2006 when I was jst coming back from lung cancer. That one was pretty tough, but yes this one was right up there for sure.
knows better than Tim Henman what it's like to be nearly good enough.
Serena is a great champion
just to give herself a bit of a challenge.
while they shuffle round the court refusing to make eye contact.
can also see another frustrating 3 set defeat tho
(you know, if that was a bet you could do)
just watched the highlights. amazing stuff, so close to beating the best ever. so proud of Heather, though. she can step on from this.
Kyrgios in that press conference.
clearly not as well raised as Andy Murray. not even pretending to give a fuck.
nice stylistic matchup. an on form kerber is great for wta, not many top players can defend as well as her
just clipping the line with several bh winners.
that first tie break point was one of the best i've seen, amazing set of tennis
AND MATT DAWSON!!
t really expect her to follow this up.
but who knows what could happen in that bottom half now. no wozniacki in the final pls.
keys-muguruza semi final would be cool and future-y
wonder what happened
combination of JJ playing really well and kvitova's brain going missing
that 2nd line should say: i t really expect her to follow this up
this is the worst Wimbledon for crowd participation since Cliff.
the wimbledon crowd is ALWAYS ripe for the slaughter
he's ballsing this right up
"lol jk, I'm gonna beat you now"
if someone plays better after a medical timeout then that means they were faking injury
and hitting loads of ridiculous shots. this is fun
same as with Simon, i only really enjoy watching Gasquet on grass.
both have lovely strokes but are usually so cowardly and defensive
what a plum
cunt deserves shooting
(Not been confirmed yet but they are having a bit of a search for a larger bp top for me to wear so fingers crossed)
Good luck JT!!
just the frenchest bloke
blowing matchpoints in all of the last three sets.
Radwanska suddenly playing like she was 2 years ago
until this spring when the hard disk went. It had the whole of the Olympic Opening Ceremony on it too.
looking for a nice player to get behind
muguruza is nice
murray is nice
Serena - Azarenka
Sharapova - Vandeweghe
Muguruza - Bacsinzsky
Keys - Radwanska
top half seems predictable (as well as vika and vandeweghe have been playing)
bottom half very interesting
Nole looking a bit fragile today.
he's going on a Noel Hunt
Nole's starting to read the serve, and Kev's getting nervous.
That was a read serve and a nervous error.
Props to Kev for pulling himself together.
Just long enough to make him feel his knees.
keeping Popsicle out on court for five sets.
how is there a demand for that? who wants to watch mens doubles for > 3 hours
is the complete worst
shitcunt entitled tory babies
that people who like Djokovic are the sort of people that like Formula 1.
+ novak isn't that popular. i'm rooting for anderson watching on tv but if i was there i might feel different, i guess if you get a chance to see the top players you wanna see them playing their best
you soulless husk
and to be honest from my perspective every match he's played against Djokovic.
if nole loses this then the narrative is totally gonna be that that wawrinka loss derailed his season
Not physical, just really mentally flat.
Not that I'm complaining. Roland Garros 2009 was a long time ago.
this has been great
Just realised this is on Court One. So if Nolly pulls a set back they go off and he comes back all nuked up tomorrow. Boo.
Come on Kev, do him. Do him now.
like what simon and monfils did. that has an 11pm curfew
Because they've got a spare day now.
I think my guess would be that they might ask them. Of course Nole will refuse, and that would be that.
- "Hey, we can finish this game today if we move it over to centre. We have a roof now remember?"
- "No need, we have plenty of spare time."
- "But what if it rai…"
- "We have been operating like this for 100 years, we will not change."
- "What time are we starting tomorrow?"
- "2pm of course!"
- "But what if, y'know this game overruns? Should we start earlier? And then of course there's the fact that it could rain at ANY MONENT in the next six da…"
- "WE. WILL. NOT. CHANGE."
it's reasonable to make them play on the same court if possible, and there's bags of time tomorrow, and they can still move to Centre then if they have to.
Plus y'know the fucker's actually going to win this in five tonight now.
- "How long can the last set be?"
- "…someone press the roof button immediately."
over a decision that thay haven't even taken yet.
he shouldn't be able to walk anymore
he's like the anti-Diaby
hope everyone in the crowd dies
Lame. Give me a "JEREMY" and I might be vaguely amused.
And it got on Wimbledon 2D…Today.
And yes, EVERYONE laughed.
going to Wimbledon to stand up at the back of the hill and try to look over someone's shoulder at a telly.
Like a deep carpet.
"Ladies and gentleman, play has been suspended until tomorrow, go fuck yourselves"
boris is so gross
real inclusive, guys, thanks a lot
you'd realise the delay has given anderson the stay of execution, not djokovic
or maybe that was the joke! so wry!
by being racially abused by some old silly australian
oh if old white australian racists hate him then i definitely like him now
Becker looks like an actual pig in a tracksuit
I want Murray to win the whole thing AND beat Djokovic. Please.
I want to win.
Djokovic is just Chelsea
Find post peak Federer more boring (and smug) tbh. Djokovic is all about being unbeatable - like a little terrier retrieving shot after shot. He's just relentless and doesn't seem to give up on any point, watching players buckle under the pressure of having to sustain themselves mentally and physically against him is great.
Chelsea are anti-football and don't let the opposition play, Dkokovic let's his opponent play as much as they want, he just doesn't let them win.
fun to see how the opponent reacts rather than boring for everyone involved.
would back against him getting through Cilic->Wawrinka (not Gasquet) ->Murray/Federer.
people talk about Djokovic being chelsea etc but for such an amazing player his slam record isnt thaaat great (at least compared to his ridiculous number masters titles) and his slam final record is fairly poor. as all time tennis legends go he's kind of a loser
His 8 Grand Slams only puts him in the top ten on the all-time list. Lame!
my point was just that he's not this unbeatable winning machine that some people seem to think he is.
he's usually mentally strong but has some frailties and is known to occasionally choke or produce unexpected poor performances e.g. in slam finals
'if novak can win another major then surely he will be thought of as one of the greats.....!'
You're regarded as one of the greats and he's fucking won more fucking slams than you!
because you know Australian Open.
Always ready with the zingerz
Reckon old Rog will be filling the trophy with werther's originals for years to come until he loses it on the bus or something.
that Roger's never going to win another slam. It's been diminishing returns for a while now and I think this is his last best shot, but there's at least two players, arguably three, in better form left in the draw.
He's going to be competitive for as long as he wants to be, but winning a two-week tournament is only going to get tougher.
I love fed but he is fading, it's great that he can get this far in tournaments and he is going out gracefully.
If he could win one more though it would be amazing and he should quit there and then
into her first slam semi final. great performance & perfect backhand to win it, she is so talented.
that was a fun match, Bacsinzsky's weird asymmetric game has grown on me
this has pinned me to my desk don't wanna go home
that's such a great matchup, always dramatic and usually really high quality. wish Azarenka won a few more of them to make it a proper rivalry.
she needs to get her ranking up ASAP
that it's always good when Sharapova is doing well.
Well it's certainly always good for Serena when that happens!
basically whatever serena says about maria it sounds like she's throwing shade
Her screaming is unbearable. I hate her.
he shouted "towel" at a young girl yesterday in an angry and impatient manner. He is worse than two Hitlers.
is there anyone with a better lob than Murray right now?
good game, this, though. Pospisil came through really strongly in his last match, and looks a real emerging talent. lots of heart and hustle, tremendous serve, a good all round game. very likeable, too - I love his backstory.
Or did I confuse him with someone else?
seems super nice, as far as I can tell.
against Murray and Peer. But seeing as that was about a line call, and Sock was involved too that's probably not a big indicator. Sock thanks ball boys for bringing him stuff after all, so it must have been a pretty aggravating point.
but he's been pretty comfortable so far
Not watching, but it feels to me as if Murray needs to step it up in the next couple of games to make the rest of the match comfortable.
I say that of course, but Popsicle's hardly been discouraged at having to come from behind before during this tournament.
this hasn't been a great day so far
it looked like there'd be two good matches at the end of the tournament to decide the winner.
Still looks that way.
Received wisdom being that Federer can't win that in five. However he's playing so well that him winning in three is a distinct possibility. Particularly if the roof's on.
And I can *almost* see either of them giving Nole a match in the final.
i stand by my djokovic looking beatable remark. likelihood of that drops massively if he has gasquet in the semi final though :((
you almost expect them to change sides during the rally.
Stan has to win this. I can't face Novak killing Bambi on Friday.
And it seems to be working very well at atm
it's that enormous head that usually lets him down.
quality increased towards the end but stan wasn't great
Williams - Sharapova
Muguruza - Radwanska
Djokovic - Gasquet
Federer - Murray
serena in 2, muguruza in 3, serena in 2
djokovic in 3, murray in 5, djokovic in...5
1) Why all the fuss about Beckham catching the ball? Surely what he ought to have done was volley it into the net?
2) Radwanska's genius challenge. WTA tennis at its absolute finest.
Really disappointed to see her go out yesterday. Have really enjoyed watching her play. SOme great rallies against Muguruza. Also like how she doesn't fuck about examining balls or wasting time between serves.
so much that she even does it during rallies.
dont know how you could have the patience to get good without them. #privelegesport
spent most of the time chasing after it. Worst was when I would go over or through the fence. Dunno why we even bothered
love seeing Djokovic sprawling.
Hope Murray shits all over Federer and Federer goes home crying and his wife looks grumpy and says "Fucking hell, Roger you're shit I HATE YOU" and when the camera cuts to Judy she just stares it down.
He wakes up the next day with loads of voodoo markings over his chest
All his tennis balls burst open and millions of ants scurry free
That's what I hope
Spare us another Wimbledon final where one players' box is full of Bond villain lookalikes and the other one is full of Bond villain henchmen lookalikes.
can't find a decent stream for this at all
can anyone help me out? (I know you're all watching on the BBC but maybe I dunno you're on holiday in Thailand with your iPad on the beach or in the opium den or sutin)
Always makes me nervous
bound to be Murray that drops off first. 91% Federer first serves? Fuck off.
Able to extend the rallys so well. Federer may struggle to last if Murray can keep this up.
but if Federer keeps this serving up then he has a decent chance of ambushing it in straights.
Fucking love him
Don't like them one bit.
(will absolutely be supporting him in the final though, bloody love the bloke)
Adorable patriotism of yours again. X
On the evidence of this match so far he's a Terminator undercover.
You want to keep on the right side of those fuckers.
Got chargeda tenner for a sandwich in Zurich airport on Saturday! And they made you take your change in Swiss Francs!
Terrible country, all cunts.
Murray has already won six times as many games as he did the last time they played.
Definitely not. If Murray wins this set he's back in the game. If it goes to five then he'll win.
Needed to break early in the set. Looks like another 5-7 here.
If Grandpa plays like this on Sunday he's going to win.
Probably the only likeable thing about Federer.
I saw him play as well as he is now. Incredible stuff at the end of the second set there and the first game of the third.
but he's only been under the cosh for a couple of points. Let's see how he plays if he gets behind in a game. He's always been a sublime front-runner.
If that actually happens.
is already conserving energy just in case the match goes long.
Smug unbelievably talented bastard.
the commentators went on for a bit about Djokovic's coach, so the cameraman picked out a guy in Nole's box.
But Djokovic's coach isn't here.
That was just awesome
He literally did nothing wrong. For some reason Federer always decides to pick on him. Fucker better play like that on Sunday.
to talk about how you can play the tennis of your life and still get spanked by Roger.
Starting to understand david foster wallace levels of federer adoration
Murray's biggest weakness is often his first serve - if he gets most of those in then he tends to win easily. Today he got about 75% in - that's just unprecedented - and Federer still absolutely destroyed him. Wanted Murray to win obviously, but I'll be really disappointed now if Federer capitulates to Djokovic in the final.
Absolutely sublime tennis
but there was a degree of inevitability about it all. Fair play to the Spanish lass though - she doesn't quite have the game to beat the very very best yet.
Come on cokehead. Smack these two down
it will be the biggest letdown ever.
so next best option is for Nole to humiliate him.
Hopefully got some tips from Stan on how to do it
can't listen to any more penoid statistics
and revealing Tim Henman and he'd drop a joke or something, but guess they preferred shifty edited Djokovic/Federer heads instead
They're both doing alright, but only alright. Hate watching tennis matches where I want both players to lose, but the lure of seeing some more Federer fans crying is still swinging it for me.
even by Wimbledon standards.
seemed a bit crap. like the 6th straight mens slam final where the guy who i was rooting for lost
of Federer playing like a god against Murray and then like a 30+ year-old veteran against everyone else. I think "a bit crap" is the right description of that final. There were roughly ten times more great points in the semi.
to cheering on cokey in the mixed.
dressed as a Star Trek extra
where everyone in the world assumed Boris had said he'd be dreaming of her voice in a creepy way. The reveal was electrifying.
