That whole painting thing is totally not cool. That woman is an embarrassment. Republic please.
Rotated every couple of years or something
Like jury duty but you get a nice house for a bit
Would the actual royal family be allowed to play? It might literally be the only way Charles will ever get his time on the throne.
Who needs eight houses? My nan is the same age as her and has lived in the same house since the 1940s.
open all of the grounds and homes to the public. all of it. every quarter.
And she'll need space for her stupid dogs to run around.
and open that to the public too
Lean and gamey.
So yeah - she can have a granny annexe, I'll allow her a couple of spare rooms and an ensuite. But yes, open up the rest. Keeps the tourism £££ coming in.
they kept playing people in germany cheering for her on the radio yesterday.
i much prefer a mardy queen, i think. we need to get someone to leak her badmouthing cameron to get him back for purr-gate.
Mostly for making Cammy look like even more of a bellpiece than usual.
so they've always been a fan of European Union.
I'm *shocked* at the inconsistency of republicans on this issue.
Usually she just rolls her eyes, nudges Philip and farts discretely at these things.
(that's obviously a massively simplified version but still, so proud)
that was a mistake. The privy purse man said the sovereign grant contribution by Scotland would be cut next year. NSturge said LOAD OF TWATTING NONENSE, and the privy purse man said, woops, sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick innit.
I like the queen. (I am not normally fussed but amazingly mollified by invitation to her garden party)
But it's easy to see why folk got the wrong impression.
Our newspapers are a bad joke. Or a conspiracy. Which they aren't. They're just relentlessly shit.
"Or a conspiracy. Which they aren't."
I swear the US media is run by one man...
to the Queen's garden party. Including me, ffs.
*not quite /every/ loon: there's some shit about needing a UK passport to be eligible, or some such nonsense, if I IIRC. And all sorts of other archaic protocol involved. The Queen and her family can fuck off, basically.
I'm going as a guest of BBC Scotland, not the electoral roll lottery.
My invite wasn't as part of the electoral roll lottery either. It was for my outstanding contribution to the community*.
*Or not. (Every community council gets scads of invites.)
"invite as a guest of BBC Scotland" translates to there being a slew of invites sloshing around at the beeb and your mate who works there could have nabbed one and took you as her +1. ;-)
Turns out you're quite wrong, but JFC. dog with a fucking bone.
When did safetywinks lose currency? Or the self deprecating comments before it?
Have a word.
But if we're losing the plot I might as well throw in that I enjoyed the "electoral roll lottery" for pleb Wza, proper Royal invite for PO/UP. [A MILLION SAFETYWINKS]
she's the nation's grandma
After that many years, I'd start to ditch the pleasantries too.
She's pretty cool. But then again, I'm a bit biased here.
But then, manners?
I'm sure Mr President could handle it.
The queen and bants = mutually exclusive??
"Liz is so wild... give her a tequila and she's anyones"
Would love to machine gun the lot of them
I like her, she can stay
was pretty funny.
than just a disingenuous personality vacuum
I like the monarchy, its what, 50p per person to run? I'd happily give up a twix to have them. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
I do feel somewhat sorry for dear princess Bea,. who the tabloids call ';the party princess' or 'the permo-vac' because she's already on her 18th holiday of the year. If I had a bottomless pit of cash in my 20s, free access to holidays, nightclubs, restaurants, and only had to do a pretend job every now and again in 'art' or 'media' then I'd bloody well revel in it, and so would you, and anyone who say they wouldn't is lying or really sad.
(Might as well go all out for a crash and burn, innit...)
As if I'd work in art or media :D
Good shot at contrarying it up, but just a tad too well-worn a cliche.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
is like looking at a Picasso painting and saying "that's a strange place for a nose" which amused moi
can someone link me please
"Maybe it was the fact that her childhood pony had been depicted in blue, but it was clear from the outset that the Queen was less than enamoured with a portrait presented to her by the German president on Wednesday.
“That’s a funny colour for a horse,” she said as Joachim Gauck handed her the artwork.
The oil painting by the up-and-coming German artist Nicole Leidenfrost was based on a photograph taken in 1935 showing the future queen, aged eight or nine, on a pony being led by her father, George VI.
The awkwardness of the presentation only increased when, pointing to the king, she asked: “Is that supposed to be my father?” Gauck, unable to hide the disappointment in his voice, replied: “Don’t you recognise him?” to which the Queen answered sternly: “No.”
The exchange of gifts between the heads of state took place in the president’s Schloss Bellevue residence in Berlin on the first full day of the Queen’s fifth state visit to Germany was followed by a boat ride along the river Spree. The Queen and Prince Philip were taken on the Ajax, an open pleasure cruiser built in the year of the Queen’s birth, 1926, and the British ambassador and ladies in waiting followed close behind in the Don Juan."
No she didn't, she said "it's a strange colour for a horse".
"The awkwardness of the presentation only increased when, pointing to the king, she asked: “Is that supposed to be my father?” Gauck, unable to hide the disappointment in his voice, replied: “Don’t you recognise him?” to which the Queen answered sternly: “No.”"
Wrong again. Prince Phillip was the one who asked "Didn't you recognise him?", not Gauck.
Don't let it irk you so much. They're only a bucnh of lizards hissing at each other anyway.
1) Anyone who is okay with royalty is either moronic or has given up on life (which is surely worse).
2) The Queen acting as entitled as you'd expect means nothing. She should either mean as much or as little to you as she did a week ago.
and i am not happy about artificial aspects of society rules which grants exagerated privilage or advantage to particular people.
But apart from that I would like to comment upon the painting as a gift as follows......IF you pick a present for someone which is a HIGHLY stylised representation of you as a child with your dead father.....something that you may remember entirely differently from some artistic visualisation, then you should be prepared for some unhidden dissappointed response from the individual.....as a person it is perfectly reasonable that she does not have to be falsely appreciatative of this.
Buckingham Palace has said it is disappointed that footage from 1933 showing the Queen performing a Nazi salute has been released.
it's not like they were in public, so it's alright!
