Looks like this is going to directly affect my girlfriend. Bit worried.
Why does pay correlate with worth anyway? Sake.
Multiple if we can get away with it
for the same concerns you have, however, from looking at the intent document it seems that if you're using an unmarried partner's visa or something, then the threshold is lower: 18,600 p.a.?
If you earn less than £35k then there's no way you could support yourself independently - it's the lowest liveable wage if you will.
No wait, that's not a good story to go with. Err, dunno.
...is there any estimate whatsoever as to how many people this may affect? Because it feels like it could be loads.
Collectively we should be grateful that people want to come here and work, regardless of the salary, and we should be happy to help out. We're slowly turning into the US. It's really really sad. :(
afaik the coalition reduced the number of places available for nurse training programmes and spent money recruiting nurses from overseas, and I would imagine most nurses earn below 35k :/
It's mainly going to affect people already in the UK. Potential new migrants who aren't earning that much wouldn't qualify for a visa now anyway, so they wouldn't get into the country in the first place. (Like for example I got in about 6 years ago when I was earning maybe 20-25000 equivalent, but there's no way I could do that now as the criteria are much stricter.
But yeah, sucks if you immigrated under the impression that you'd eventually get residency, and now find out you won't.
