ooof - 5-star rant
Worse that Sex In The City 2 apparently....
Considering the amount of spleen he vented re SITC2, to say that this is worse is really going some.
I might go and see it in an attempt to annoy mark kermode
makes me take him much less seriously as a critic
like complaining about food in a mcdonalds
don't necessarily think he's scoring cheap points here.
i only know of kermode, and i've watched all of entourage and enjoyed it. his review speaks to a perspective i hadn't really considered before (though it's bleedingly obvious if you approach entourage from that angle) because i always enjoyed entourage precisely because it was vacuous and silly and i could just switch off my brain and look at the shiny things and laugh when johnny drama or ari did something loud and stupid.
i'm not the kind of person who wants the hollywood lifestyle- in fact i abhor it and wouldn't want to live like that in a million years- but there are tons of people who'll watch this film who will aspire to the kind of bullshit kermode's talking about. i'll probably watch the film and i'll likely enjoy parts of it, but i'm glad i watched his review because it raised some very obvious problems with entourage and movies of its ilk that i might not have considered because entourage is safely lodged in a mindless comfort zone for me.
You or I might be able to spot the flaws in this film a mile off but compared to the average cinema goer we could well be in a minority. I have lots of friends who never stop to think about the sexual politics of the mainstream cinema etc they watch and I really value having a prominent bbc voice taking the whole consumerist /women as possessions culture to task. Whilst films like this are being made and being watched it needs people like kermode to stand up and say ' this is abhorrent '
But I will have to watch it to pass my own judgement on it, because in the series there are occasions when they are mildly traumatised by the vacuity of their lives.
I've tried to convince loads of people to watch it, but none of them have. I am probably not selling it very well. But it is well good!
he's carved out a niche for himself as the guy who done a funny rant about an obvious target in the hope it'll go viral, which it invariably does
really are very clever and sensitive.
he's just been making one point so far
He talks about a lack of a punchline, but all the series have a sad patheticness to them. He's missing out. It's highly possible that the film doesn't have any of those bits. I will find out when I watch it.
Also, Kermode seems to complain that Vince's films are shit, and he was expecting this film star to make great films to justify his success. Not sure which Hollywood he's been watching for the last 30 years if that's gone over his head.
probably rehearsed it 20 times in front of the mirror, the twat
He essentially repeats for the next 8 odd minutes or so, it's pretty dull.
