England unchanged at the Kia Oval.
NZ win the toss and choose to bat. Worrying.
Even the extremely entertaining ones
nothing like a ODI, even the low scoring ones are great if they're close
Stokes should be sixth bowler in this team, fifth at best in a Test
Would be great to have five out-and-out specialists, but don't think England have ever had that luxury in terms of team balance. Our batting's just not reliable enough.
Stokes looks a better fifth bowler than almost any I can think of England having in ODIs - the only players that have ever really done that job at all well for us are the deceptive dibbly-dobbly types of Collingwood/Bopara. A case to be made that different pace in the side would be an asset, definitely, but not sure where that would come from, unless you think Rashid and Moeen should both be playing.
A good dibbly-dobbler will go for fewer runs than Stokes. He is the definition of a bowler who bleeds runs under any circumstances. Fortunately he can bat in the top five and leave most of the bowling to others. Billings is the one in this team whose position could be filled by an all-rounder
That would have given some variety to the attack in the form of a left-armer at least.
I suspect it won't be too long until you get to see Willey and Wood in tandem.
not strong enough?!
Billings was drafted in last-minute at 7
Maybe not. Was shortly after the very sad Kieswetter announcement though, so maybe they just wanted to spare him the spotlight.
Bazza's due though guys so wouldn't bother watching this
Guppers is due also
Who next? Who next??
no worries....Kane is a genius, also due.
absolutely no idea who you are pal, sorry.
I predict a 175 run loss.
they're turning Matt Prior into a commentator
50 without even trying, thats our KANE
without having to do anything special. Enough bad balls an over to get them comfortably to where they want to be run rate wise.
It is a stupidly quick outfield though.
Anyone fancy a punt at what will be chaseable? I reckon 330 given the conditions.
poor little Kane he's only about 12 years old too
sugar-coating his crap one-day bowling :D
anyone heard him speak?
Why the hell is Jordan still in the attack?
thank fuck Mordred is out, was giving me the shits
Seemed like that when I lived there.
But yeah, glad Morgan is gone. Weird series for me: wake up, see the first side has scored 400, see the second side collapse.
See Steve Smith out for 199. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
but I'm not sure 300+/7 quite counts as a collapse yet, does it?
i-didn't-see-it face as much as him.
OFF OFF OFF!!
I don't like this. England should win from here. Just stay calm v Tim and smash Santner.
hard to say man, lot of work to do...
shame but, awesome fightback from neu engerland though
pleading with the umpires to save the day with 398 on the board and two tail-enders at the crease. Shameful stuff.
he said "lets stay on Stevey"
I hope the rain doesn't clear up now. I don't think I could bear to watch him forcing Nathan to bowl underarm to Liam Plunkett.
What a double-catch right there!
Well played New Zealand. Cracking relay catch there.
Played a blinder by sacrificing a virgin (Mitchell Santner) to the rain gods just at the right moment. And very enjoyable to watch Brendon Attack-Attack shitting himself trying to defend 399 with Liam Plunkett at the crease.
So optimistic, so brave.
Unlucky for England, bit shit to reduce a game when you could easily have bowled those last four overs, and we'd have had to bowl Santner and the Mc's.
Effectively let McCullum off the hook for his error in bowling Boult out too soon, although given the shape of Jordan one wicket would have likely been enough regardless.
Shaping up to be another cracking series though. Let's just cancel the Ashes and do a proper ENG-NZ 5-Test series followed by a few more ODIs for a laugh.
Chance of rain coming, bowl your best guy early to make sure he gets to use all his 10 overs. And it gives you a better chance of winning because the D/L will be better, because it can't take into account who's bowled so far in the innings. Bold decision, but in character.
(Plus he bowls Boult/his best bowlers out a lot as a standard tactic - see NZ v Eng and v Aus in the world cup - especially v Aus when Boult, Southee and Vettori bowled 29 overs in a 32 over innings)
