I'm really tired. Are you really tired?
Nailed the technical stuff, gave good reasons why I wanted/would be a good fit for the job, didn't say anything really stupid.
Just going to be obsessively refreshing my emails for a bit now.
work is gonna be a killer mind
seemed to favour their first album over their second.
Martha were mint as always.
went to the opera last night, it was amazing. had some lovely food before as well.
drank a bit too much right enough.
absolutely not in the mood today.
I'm not so tired. This is my Friday afternoon. I'm off to Southapton today, we're going here for a burger http://www.therockstone.co.uk/index.php/burgers.html I'm pretty darn excited!
Before we eat though, we're going to see Soph's sister in law who's in hospital. she had her appendix out the other day, but it's not certain that was the issue.
The main event is of course, opening the curtains only to be told by unknown collective noun of birds of unknown variety to tear the buildings down, that's right, it's HOTELIER DAY!
my word: Max Payne:£24.95
Dante needed seven circles of hell. We only need two. A Volcano Burger on beef, stacked atop a chicken Tehranosaurus. Finish this, and get on our Food Challenge Board!
SIGNED DISCLAIMER REQUIRED. (made with great care from 6.4 million Scoville Capsaicin extract)
this is your gaff http://www.7bone.co.uk/
but we're meeting people at the Rockstone and I've been salivating at their new menu and was well jealous last time we went there that i didn't get a burger.
but it would just be stupid, wouldn't it?
If you're spending that much on burgers you want to be able to at least enjoy them.
£24.95 so you could endure pain?
but tomorrow I'd be willing to spend lots of money developing a time machine to go back to before i ate it and punch myself in the face.
Yeah, leave it off so p_o_r! Future you does not want that.
I'm thinking about your Saturday ringpiece. The Max Payne on the way out would ruin a weekend for sure.
whisky was not a good idea
could go back to it again now.
I had to sit back and watch my clients devour 18yo old poulteney last night while I sipped a ginger ale, the cunts.
Guessing that the 18yr old is a rare treat too. The cunts, indeed! They'll be suffering today though no doubt...
World Whisky of the year as well a couple of years ago :)
Amazing. The bourbon cask takes some of the usual Ardbeg bonfirey-ness out of it. Just the ticket on a Thursday and feeling alright today.
You'll be reet soon enough thewarn.
I bought it for my buddy but am aksing for a taste at every given opportunity! I love full on smokey whiskey in the winter but with better weather this works really nicely.
I don't know v much about whisky beyond the basics, but my friend (who I met when he used to run whisky tastings) is now brand ambassador for glenfiddich and he rates the Uigeadail as one of the best of our generation. I think it won World Whisky of the Year too.
And my favourite words are CASK STRENGTH.
You should try the Talisker 57 degrees north if you haven't already...
That's a handy person to know! Glenfiddich 15 is great stuff!
I'm not super clued up and my palate isn't massively refined but Mrs Stack and I went to Orkney a couple of years ago for my 30th and did the tour and tasting at Highland Park which was such an eye opener (30 yr old Highland Park is the best whiskey I've ever tasted hands down, I loved it) and now I try and check out what I can.
Oh man I want to go back to Orkney. That's probably the best holiday I've ever had.
probably the best distillery for consistency of quality.
We are going to skye in the summer to drink the talisker place dry.
Skye's amazing, I'm going back in June. The Talisker tour is super cool and the oyster shed is right there!
This week has been a struggle.
Only three teaching weeks left, none of them full weeks either.
I'm at the point where I'm judging my remaining working weeks by the number of incomplete folders/ students.
I'm not working next Friday (bank holiday, yo!) and am expecting about seven students in the morning and seven in the afternoon. This brings me joy.
feeling pretty good actually.
have a nice day dis.
today is my Friday and I'm going to the Isle Of Wight later.
I'm late for work because I had to go to the sorting office. Not that tired yet.
can't stop thinking about The Hotelier last night. 10/10 guys, ten out of ten.
Doing nice things over the weekend.
Street Feast tonight.
Prosecco afternoon tea on Saturday with the missus.
A fuck tonne of niggly wedding stuff to square off on Sunday.
Thank fuck that it's Friday. Went canvassing last night and didn't get the positive response I'd expected which makes me wary about the referendum next week. (It's Marriage Equality referendum in Ireland.)
Went for two pints with my housemate last night. Hadn't seen her in days as she's been busy with work. Can't wait to get out of work. Getting RTJ2 later on and maybe a new turntable for the house. Then it's goodbye drinks for another housemate whom I'll be sad to see leaving.
This one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gemini-TT-02-Direct-Drive-Turntable/dp/B000750W8I
Second-hand for mad cheap, something like €60.
We currently have this awful thing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/TEVION-TURNTABLE-CONVERTER-SINGLE-RECORD/dp/B00IN3Q3K2
That's going to sound a shite sight better my man! Get that husker du spinning!
I'm picking up some more LPs later, I have some new Prince singles to listen to AND we have a new housemate moving in who also collects records. There's going to be 1000+ records in the house in June. Amazing.
pretty annoyed. organising a small degree show type thing this evening. got a nice venue and some good speakers. the university gave us a budget to fund it, mainly printing costs and a drinks reception.
we can't spend the cash ourselves and then claim it back, because bureaucracy. so it was left with a woman at the university to sort it out. she got us 12 bottles of wine, for an event that may potentially have 40 people at it.
she's on leave this week (of course), so i've emailed both the year co-ordinator (who gave us the budget) and the director of studies. they both think that is a suitable amount of wine, as 'most people will only have one glass'.
it was also really stressful actually getting any work from my coursemates in the first place, but at the back of mind was always 'oh well, at least we've got the drinks sorted'.
it's bad form to not attend your own event, right?
and each stick a tenner in for another couple of bottles of wine?
< 40 turn up. Sounds ok to me.
but most of them will be my class. we'll be out by 6:45 probably.
the university gave us a budget of over £500. we price-checked the wine and it came to about £50.
Make it a BYOB gig.
the person organising it for us got a quote from the University's normal catering supplier, which was too high. We tried to suggest using Majestic, as they offer glasses and won't charge for unopened bottles, but they insisted on sorting it using Asda, and that's what we ended up with.
Amusingly they also ordered some snacks, which consist of ten large bags of Doritos and a single packet of Maryland cookies.
I appreciate this is all pretty 'my diamond shoes are TOO TIGHT' but it's just annoying. We got given this really beautiful space free of charge by a Scottish Government department, we've got some good speakers lined up, people might actually turn up, and I just feel let down by the university here.
Still, LOADS of Doritos.
If they've got an events budgets and say you can have £500 of it - surely you can make your own decisions as to what to spend that £500 on. Buy it all, keep all the receipts for the audit trail... done.
I'd come for fuckloads of free Doritos to be honest.
is a nice touch.
But the staff member who was organising it is on leave, I don't know who's covering, and the academic staff think it's a sufficient amount (although aren't going themselves, hmmm)
This isn't school, you're a grown up, assert yourself! make the point that you appreciate that x is on leave and ask for it to be escalated in x's absence as it simply can't wait until their return. In fact yes, ask for it to be escalated to x's superior. Say tat it will look very stingy to run out of wine as you expect it to be well attended, and it's a Friday night so people may want more than a single glass of wine throughout the entire event.
Who the fuck cares what you've got already with the first 50?! Bunch of pricks.
American Football last night plus drinks with DiSers = awesome.
Kinda sleepy now though.
Feeling actually physically alright, novelty.
For some reason, I don't feel tired today.
Your office is an absolute font of vicarious gossip for me. Can you go and find out and report back please?
for the rest of us nosy lot?
I'd never been to this one before but i'm hooked on it now!
My new clients are really lovely, and it's a long time since I've worked for an all female team! really looking forward to doing their transaction for them :)
My darling boy is still poorly and it makes me sad as I want to cuddle him but I can't expose myself to his lurgae :(
I am having a roll and sausage with potato scone and brown sauce and a Fanta for breakfast :)
IT'S SO GOOD.
ooh nice, dangerously close to the three judges
and soba afterwards (cleitn's choices).
I loved balbirs though! I ate too much and have a grumbly tum today though. started with poppadums and bhel poori, then a lamb fillet starter, which was really aromatic with cinnamon and feungreek on cumin mash. at this point I was absolutely stuffed full, but still had to cram in my main of garlic chilli chicken and garlic naan (yes, I honk today).
and this has officially swung it for me. think it was the cinnamon/fenugreek/cumin mash combo sentence.
it made me go 'ooooh' and 'ahh' to myself with every little bite.
the bhel poori was a revelation too! It's like spiced onions with Bombay mix through it and loads of coriander. I've had it before at babu kitchen for lunch and found it a bit overpowering but this was spot on.
on which note...is babu kitchen worth a trip? kindaaa sounds good but also looks like it might be shite.
it must have got eaten again by this bloody website.
You should give babu a try for sure as it's tasty wholesome food, freshly prepared and it's a local small business enterprise on the doorstep of my work and my home and I ought to support it. I guess my slight hesitation is that I feel like it's not all that cheap and although it's good, I'm always just a tiny bit disappointed in it.... like it needs a bit of extra kick? (it's probably because they don't cook with MSG. Highly disgusting and deliciously moreish MSG.) My bf had some butter chicken from there recently that was horrid- absolutely full of cloves- it was like someone added cloves and then forgot and added them again. And even as I type this in semi-justificatoin, I'm thinking to myself 'are there even supposed to BE cloves in butter chicken'? ah oh, I think not. I suspect they gave him the wrong thing.
My saag paneer needed salt- it was literally just paneer and wilted spinach. No sign of ghee, no slightly acerbic tang. Weird. but still more satisfying than a tesco sandwich for my lunch.
So yeah, you should try it if you're in the neighbourhood one day and fancy something tasty and pretty healthy and let me know if you agree- I do worry all those years of smoking has killed my taste buds and you shouldn't listen to me.
but I shall give it a try regardless and report back. I walk past it to and from work every day but never crossed the threshold. I had banana leaf my first week here and haven't even tried to look elsewhere since. that place is wonderful.
on a side-note had some thai from a new-ish place on argyle street, fininieston side last night and it was BANGING. spicy prawn coconut milk soup thing, super spicy and one of the tastiest things I've had in ages. Only £5 too. Can't remember what the place was called though so this story is pointless.
Hurry up and remember what the thai was (was it sit in or takeaway I hear good things about BKK but it's takeaway only I think).
Anyway, I find it hard to see beyond THAIRIFFFIC when it comes to Thai. it's so so good.
It could have been BKK looking at the map but I think it's pretty new. It's all wood fronted and looks like an artisan coffee place? I'll walk past it again later and let you know (AND PROBABLY BUY MORE PRAWN SOUP LOL)
anyway the food was fucking delicious, will certainly be going back.
literally live thirty seconds away from it too. super excited though, only ever heard great things about it.
despite it only being ten mins walk away from home, and walking past it reasonably often and thinking I NEED TO GO.
NEW FINNIESTON PLACE ALERT- Pickled Ginger opened last night I was supposed to go to the opening with Jules last night, but had this client thing on at balbir. She says it's fucking brilliant. Might go during the week next week when I get back from the cuntry.
i'll have to pop in for a nosey.
At ox & finch i'd heartily recommend:
the crab and crayfish chilli, mango, noodle salad
sea breem with chilli peanuts or something
king prawns with harissa and chickpeas
and the queues were insane so we got the upthread thai instead. looked proper nice though. great name for a sushi place too.
due to someone else's fuck up, in Bolton, on holiday.
and I had booked a holiday day today.
Did you take one for the team and volunteer to do this presentation?
by someone else who didn't want to do it. 😕
nobody actually thought you had gone on holiday to Bolton ;)
yeah, I didn't think that was likely! 😉
I went to this last night:
It was pretty spectacular. I haven't been to a proper ballet performance (not sure if this was that, though), but it was completely captivating.
Max Richter's soundtrack was damn good too.
had a 7:30am HIIT class already.
Tonight - something at the soho theatre I don't know what it is tho
Tomorrow - working the side job, wahaca evening fun
Sunday - stuff. Laying about.
Still, Electric Wizard tonight.
Dad's 70th tomorrow - surprise birthday picnic at Hever Castle.
Got 160 page document to proof read on Sunday. Joy.
none of this applies to me
the lass that does the events planning there is an old friend. If you see a short blonde Danish-looking lady say hi from me.
that is all
Spoilers new track got a wee feature on NME this week, we are playing Great Escape tomorrow and Power Lunches on Sunday, very much looking forward to it.
Saw loads of friends last night, and there's the small matter of beating Ipswich on our way to Wembley tomorrow, which my Da' has offered to pay for! So aye, happy Friday everyone
that's pretty massive a bit isn't it
don't think I've had a meantime beer
well, the london pale and the Yakima is. I worked doing some of the brewery tours for them and while they overprice their beer it is in fairness pretty great
too bad I missed the boat. can't be seen anywhere near them now they're owned by the man.
Although I'd assumed they were owned by a big bad beer bastard (like Diageo) owing to the fact their distribution network seems well decent - you can even get Meantime in the shittest pubs now. Probably why SABMiller bought them to be honest.
I went on that the other week it was very good.
it was really good fun although I now know some mega boring beer facts that no-one wants to hear
Didn't want to be hungover and gross today though so I only had one cider all night, not as many people as I thought I'd know there so got a bit bored at times. Two people I didn't know introduced themselves and said they'd seen me on tv though which was pretty cool. #celeblyf Bf making his first (hopefully not last) venture to Kent today, yay!
revelation of the day for me: Heel lock lacing. I'm like, WOAH! at the age of 32 and almost a half, i finally know how to tie laces.
learning it with the mrs at the mo
There are usually some beginners around (they're the only ones I beat...)
next one is happening. Keep me informed
But I'm on holiday so won't be there. I'm down for all the other ones I can get to though, they're my only non-internet ways to get games in.
great bunch of breakfast lads
might have a day off coffee
i had a banana, mango, orange and apple smoothie and a slice of seeded bread (free from, obvs) with proper strawberry jam and a bit of strawberry soy yoghurt
and homemade cold brew
having a day ON coffee
it's weird to see well known actors in relatively low budget films, wasn't bad though maybe I'm just over-thinking the appeal of Mark Duplass, Donald Glover and Olivia Wilde
Training tonight, then tidying the house as my mum is coming round tomorrow, might watch that infamous feminist epic Mad Max tomorrow evening.
what a load of nobcheese.
Some quite effective bits though. I'll grant you that.
I'm smart enough to know a film is total pump whatever format I watch it on.
(i haven't seen it but i know that it's shit and i hate it. happy now, balonz?)
but a big part of why it is a really spectacular film is it's scope, watching it on a phone would just completely zap that
Feels like a good Friday. Got some work stuff sorted that's been bugging me for a while, my best mate got a much deserved promotion which I'm really happy about so we celebrated with wine and whiskey, stacks of Regular show and ritual watching of Cube.
I've been listening to Pavement all week.
Off to Pitt Cue tomorrow, followed by beers. Golf on Sunday. Should be a good one.
sinuses all completely blocked. The boss has offered twice that I should go home but I've said 'no, no it's fine.' Why have I said that? I'm so ill my brain isn't functioning properly.
Feel better matey-o
weather isn't looking too kind but I'll bloody well climb goat fell regardless and sip a soggy whisky at the top. really looking forward to it actually, haven't left the city in a while.
anyone been before? any good pub recommendations?
the sun splits the sky whenever I go to arran. I refuse to believe it ever rains there.
forecast was AWFUL and I ended up with this:
and this: https://instagram.com/p/vvy2DMOOqF/
best place <3
was there for a weekend last nov and had an amazing time, such a beautiful place.
Have fun Teeej.
The food was fucking amazing, the head chef use to be the head chef at Number 16 on byers rd, not sure if you've ever eaten there but it's very tasty as well.
On a quick glance i didn't see any online menus for whatever reason but like i said the food was just amazing. They also had a good selection of local whiskys, as you'd expect.
we're staying in a bunkhouse thing near lamlash so that could well be perfect. was it crazy pricey?
also, did you go across to the holy isle? trying to work out if we should.
i think for two of us having 3 courses each with a bottle of wine, coffee and a couple whisky's it was about £90...ish
ended up getting smashed with some of 'the lads' and was up til about 2am. Grim. Alos really fancy pretty much everyone in the world right now. Like a horny dog or something.
It's a classic.
Ive not been hungover at work for so long I forgot that the slightest bit of ankle gives me a ragin' semi
before overall cba sinks in (though I'd probably still be happy to 'just lie there').
It's my birthday tomorrow. gf promised me breakfast in bed o_O
Wedding tomorrow too.
Will have a nice dinner at a BBQ restaurant on Sunday. Will receive my present too, which, as I am sure you want to know, is a leather saddle for my bicycle.
I might just do nothing tonight
But I do now. I saw Richard Dawson last night and he was very good. Going to see Repo Man (band) tonight.
clean car for about 2 days I reckon.
Going to be a late night tonight so better be all rested for it. And I have been up for TWO AND A HALF HOURS, after all. #holiday
also quite a lot is actually wrong with me health wise, i take up to 7 pills every day in an attempt to make me sleep less lol
but i will carry on regardless.
Don't feel up to the wrist-breaking beating involved.
I'm implying that you masturbate a lot
I am so fucked off with work today that I feel like going outside and shouting at a wall for a while.
punch the wall - no
I have one and a half hours exactly left in here. Time to think of beer and dancing like a loon to hip-hop later on.
it's still happening
But is is nearly over here japes, fear not.
has been colonised by spambots to become a pirate torrent tracker?
(For some reason I'm imagining DiS as an interstellar space hulk right now)
I'm surprised a mod hasn't banned it yet.
have a lovely weekend all you beautiful people! :)
