all-boy public schools are good at turning out?
Is that possible?
Imagine being in the police or sitting around at home and getting shot to pieces so someone could lol. Feels like Robocop or Running Man or something.
how'd he get shot?
Cop was wearing a bulletproof vest and unharmed.
I mean like, how do you get yourself shot investigating a prank call?
sat at home with a load of guns wondering who was breaking his door down at 4am in the morning.
Which is why I'm not sure that one counts as much of a prank.
Don't loads of people in America have guns in their homes? So if they feel they're being intruded, it seems reasonable to expect they'll shoot, and if the emergency services are expecting this then they're also liable to shoot.
was it's completely incongrous - getting a SWAT team to burst in on a bunch of gamers sitting at their computers - or inconvenient, embarrassing or whatever. Hence it being done to lots of celebrity's houses.
Whereas this one seems to have been done as revenge, possibly with the intention of killing the indivdual concerned.
Possibly a false disntinction, but this example seems more sinister than others.
I only heard about it the other day from a link in the articles on feminism thread - http://seriouspony.com/trouble-at-the-koolaid-point
I suppose it's hard to draw a clear line for this stuff, trolling, banter, bullying, pranks. Given the prevalence of guns in America though, it seems crazy to suggest that swatting's "ok" in the spirit of fun - surely any one of the victims could make a wrong move and be seriously harmed or dead (again, though, not an expert).
Haha, was going to make a point about people being traumatised, then reminded myself that i haven't even watched one of these videos! Should probably go and eat a spoonful of cinnamon.
I'm just able to see how tricking a SWAT team into bursting in on, say, your school teachers having a meeting could seem like pretty hilarious #bants - while obviously wasting police time, endangering lives, etc, etc. - but if you did it with the sole intention of starting a shootout and killing them all that's obviously something very different entirely.
It just seems to me that the prank is inherently dangerous, and the difference is more in the outcome than the intention here. Not sure that the article you posted suggested he was trying to get anyone killed, but i don't think that it really matters.
In 2013, a number of U.S. celebrities became the victims of swatting pranks, including Sean Combs. In the past, there have been swatting incidents at the homes of Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Linkin Park, Creed, Metallica, Nirvana, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea, Jason Derulo, Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber and Clint Eastwood.
