no repercussions so far
will keep you posted if interested.
on permanent divert to either my EA or voicemail. no percussions so far (nearly 2 years in).
although I may not be saying that when they liberate me from my job.
Still haven't listened to my voicemail. Don't know how to work it.
One day she sent round a panicky email asking what the default voicemail PIN was, because apparently the CEO had left her a voicemail a week ago and was furious.
If nobody picks it up there or it's set to out of hours.
Haven't once answered it in three and a hair years. I don't even know how to transfer calls.
No idea how many messages I've got. If it's important they'll email me. probably.
don't think I'll ever bother then.
all of our calls go through Lync, I've got mine set to silent, plus my microphone is broken so i occasionally pretend to answer safe in the knowledge I'll get a 15 second one way conversation of hello, hello, pieces_of_reece? hello, no? i don't think you can hear me, I'll email.
I think it's great!
Makes it really easy to dodge calls, because the caller doesn't trust that you're really available, and your colleagues on adjacent desks aren't alerted by the ring tone of the fact that you're just letting those calls ring right on through.
and work stuff in general
given the warning
my productivity is the talk of the office!
and if we do they are quick trivial ones, often for someone else. May as well pick them up.
out of my headset which would then automatically terminate the call.
Could only get away with it a couple of times a week though :(
had this happen to me twice while i'd been on hold for 45 mins
apparently it was a sackable offense - "call avoidance" was gross misconduct. I saw people put themselves on mute and ignore people who came through. Some were more clever and if they knew the time between calls was a few minutes, they could put themselves in the back of the queue repeatedly by going unavailable then available again. Even better on the late shift if there were 20 minutes between calls.
and have no idea how my voicemail works
also if i take more than three rings to pick up it goes to voicemail
this morning i was eating an apple and had to miss the call rather than talk with my mouth full
My particular favourite is when someone leaves a voicemail saying that as you aren't available to speak to, they're going to e-mail instead. Thanks for that.
