don't mind him.
I used to find it really annoying but usually put 6Music on in the mornings when feeding the baby so I've got mostly used to him.
...is it just me or are they increasingly playing old/classic rock music?!
I'm not fucking interested in hearing all that pish.
people whose music taste got frozen about 15 years ago, so music from that period and modern music that took a nod from then.
But I think they are afraid to lose the audience who've never got past Britpop, so it's massively stuck in the mid-90s. It gets me down a lot that you turn it on and just hear all these ancient songs that I could pull up on my MP3 player if I really wanted to hear them.
are mid-40s white manc blokes
they should replace him permanently with Tom Ravenscroft, he's great.
I can't listen to Keaveny, he's dreadful and only seems to play Led Zeppelin.
Keaveny is also a fan of...OASIS.
he's not perfect at all, but he does seem to be playing a lot more stuff than he would ever have dared on the Evening Session.
i know who he is
I was taking you at your word for once and here's how you repay me? :D
mark radcliffe is still the biggest cunt on the planet. hate him with the fire of a thousand suns.
richard hammond is still alive
nope, radcliffe is still taking it
They make me laugh a lot. I think I'm a 50-year-old Northern man at heart.
The best show is Marc Riley though, that's where I get most of my music recommendations from.
Not a big fan of yer Menswear drummer man though.
Was really bored when Nematode (or whatever she's called) did the show while Keaveny was on holiday the other week
I mean she just plays the music. She used to be early on Sundays or something so I got over my irritation at her back in those days.
she's so terrible at interviewing people
that's what we are talking about right
quite liking Cerys' show had made me completely forget how totally, unbearably shit Catatonia were
MaryAnne the other week was so much classier, both as a presenter and with music choices/knowledge
They could do to refresh the lineup a bit
I think it's Elizabeth Alker, who apparently does music news on Radcliffe and Maconie, but she seems to take over from Chris Hawkins when he's off now.
gets a bit cringey at times, in a middle-aged-man-hitting-on-a-younger-lady sort of way
I don't ever really hear their show apart from a few minutes in the kitchen if I'm WFH and make my lunch late.
or more importantly Matt Everett's attempts at humour.
Shaun K - not bad
Elizabeth Alker - sounds like sporty spice, not bad though
Chris Hawkins - wank
Cerys - wank
Huey - wank
Craig Charles - wank
Steve Lamacq - good for roundtable
Tom Ravenscroft - ace
Radcliffe and Maconie - wank
Lauren Laverne - good
Guy Garvey / Jarvis Cocker / Iggy Pop - Fuck off, mates
Gideon Coe - ace
Liz Kershaw - not bad outside of phone-ins
Marc Riley - meh
You're saying those DJs are 'wank' or they are your cue to bang one out?
Now I'll turn on 6Music and Huey will be on and I'll think, "Sadpunk must be having a wank".
Always seems to be desperate to play some rubbish mid-90s oldies.
I just think her show could do with a bit more new music.
Lauren plays LOADS of new music.
Maybe she should play fewer old tracks too, then?
are you alright, pal?
but it's nice to have someone who's so passionate about what he likes and is genuinely excited about the music he's playing. he's a good egg
Fucking do a proper job or don't bother at all.
Gilles Peterson is: alright.
Which is a shame
for his Twitter rant against Lauren Laverne. People would definitely be fired from everywhere I've worked for doing that.
What did he say?
can't really remember. she had won an award or something and he went a bit mental and started complaining that her show was shite and his was much better and all she did was go on twitter the whole time.
it was a bit awkward.
also, much like catatonia, the Fun Lovin' Criminals were an appalling band.
Shaun K - not bad
Elizabeth Alker - only heard her do the music news. fine.
Chris Hawkins - ok
Cerys - good
Huey - wank
Craig Charles - good
Steve Lamacq - bit shit but fine
Tom Ravenscroft - ok
Radcliffe - PRICK
Maconie - not as bad but bad
Lauren Laverne - good
Guy Garvey / Jarvis Cocker / Iggy Pop - good
Gideon Coe - can't remember
Liz Kershaw - can't remember
Marc Riley - good
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Gillso - fine
Matt Everett - wank
nemone - wank
mary anne hobbs - good
tragic that 6 music play or talk about florence+ so much
6 music are flying the flag for the long blondes
iggy pop and craig charles are the only good ones
thousands of miles apart and we were briefly together in song.
...when I worked at BBC. Decent guy, poor quality footballer.
GET GEORGE LAMB OFF 6MUSIC!!11!!!1
and I was pretty fucking fuming about it back in the day. Don't think I ever listened to him tbh
Tom Ravenscroft's still the best. Have to turn the radio off when Guy Garvey's on, and it's getting to that point with Lamacq, totally dries me out.
I really like Gideon Coe though
ugly even for radio.
If I listen now its full of boring new synthy indie bands or rubbish 80's punk bands. It's rare something makes me sit up and listen (tbh I don't listen to loads it's more 10 mins here or there so maybe I'm being unlucky).
Quite like Steve Lamacq for evening session nostalgia and he plays some decent old stuff. Be nice if there were more specialist shows that weren't firmly aimed at middle aged Sunday afternoon listeners.
very much enjoying Craig Charles on the breakfast show this week, like the way he sounds like he's having an ace time. Good tunes and all.
or producer man?
crap impressions, comedy voices and Matt Everitt, who really annoys me for some reason, improves it before you even get to the music.
thought his show was excellent last night
never catch him anymore.
Loved making the sunday dinner to Iggy. (Punk lives)
I do sunday dinner with Paul O'Grady (I am no longer punk)
but the chummy northern £50 man bias (ironic to even be typing that I am aware) is a bit grating lately. Do we really need another documentary about New fucking Order?
Iggy's shows are great. Jarvis is alright though I find I'd rather listen to him ramble than half the music he plays. Ravenscroft should be prime time.
Huey plays a great mix of stuff. He might be a bit cringe at times but there aren't many who play a load of obscure 80's hip hop followed by Tom Waits followed by Sabbath (and actually mean it, whereas often Lamaq or Laverne do it to try to show how "eclectic" they are. Keep Laverne though she's like Gary Lineker of 6 Music, hard to dislike and face of the whole thing). Cery's is great, knowledgeable and genuinely enthused when she interviews people too.
Liz Kershaw, Nemone, Lamaq out
and this isn't just because I love Catatonia. (Hey fuck you, International Velvet is great).
(I do not like her!)
