First day back after two weeks; first one in the office.
What have you been first at?
I've come first a few times.
"I don't look upon this like it's the end, I look upon it like it's moving on you know. It's almost like my work here's done. I can't imagine Jesus going 'Oh, I've told a few people in Bethlehem I'm the son of God, can I just stay here with Mum and Dad now?' No. You gotta move on. You gotta spread the word. You gotta go to Nazareth, please. And that's, very much like... me. My world does not end within these four walls, Slough's a big place. And when I've finished with Slough, there's Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell, you know I've got to - Didcott, Yately. You know. My - Winersh, Taplow. Because I am my own boss, I can - Burfield. I can wake up one morning and go 'Ooh, I don't feel like working today, can I just stay in bed?' 'Ooh, don't know, better ask the boss.' 'Meths, can I stay in bed all day?' 'Yes you can Meths' Both me, that's not me in bed with another bloke called Meths."
i coughed up blood at the weekend which was alarming - chest infections are pretty rough, eh? but i feel like i might be on the way out of it, so that's good news. means i'll be able to start biking again soon.
my wife's cousrin arrives tonight from london. she's in the middle of a euro-tour. took the eurostar from paris a few days ago, so i am suitably jealous.
doing a live radio show tonight.
been doing it for a while now actually. if i'm allowed to JAG it here (not stopped me before) here is it.
Oooh, just noticed you have old shows on Mixcloud. Nice one.
Off climbing in France from Thursday. Praying that the weather is better than it is forecast to be...
Weekend was great. Visited William Morris's house which was really interesting, then had a lovely dinner with the GF's family at the Landmark Hotel.
How are you all?
i need to get back into it. i used to boulder all the time.
Are you London based? I climb 3 or 4 times a week normally at various locations.
I'm not that great company
difficult to reach spots.
Goes out today? Will be reet up your street.
i am working from home while waiting for a sofa to be delivered. again. week is all over the place:
monday: wait for sofa, work from home
tuesday: actually go into work
wednesday: go to cardiff to look at some spreadsheets
thursday: work from home while writing up stuff about cardiff spreadsheets
friday: dunno yet
don't think i've had a week where i've just gone into work for five days and done normal work for about two months. it's weird.
I was first in my room this morning but not first in the office.
Fell asleep at 9.30 last night, mid conversation. Feel a bit groggy this morning as a result.
morning mits xxx
morning mits, sean, thewarn, aphex, keith, breakfast_t, everyone
Only *my* office though. The cleaner hasn't been.
Thighs still killing me after too many squats on too cold muscles. Supposed to be gym night tonight but I'm struggling.
Cba with work etc etc. Might try to organise qualifying rounds for a local nerdy card game tournament instead of working.
Tools down. Can't work under these conditions.
Pretty solid weekend. Me and wor lass bought our wedding rings on Saturday. Drunk lots of red wine to celebrate.
Watched the football with the #lads on Sunday.
I've never worn a ring before and I think I'll find it odd when the time comes
I didn't expect to get gazumped by thickness of ring; too thin and it looks quite effeminate, too thick and you look like Tony Soprano.
One of my mates has a raised band in the middle of his which I think works quite well.
I've gone with a pretty plain D-shaped yellow gold 4.5mm ring with Elvish engraving on the inside.
I'm not ill anymore but I ruined my voice on Saturday through overuse. Practice followed by two gigs in three hours was a killer.
Other than that I had a great weekend. Went to house parties on Friday and Saturday night and had an absolute ball with all my friends. I saw a mind-melting improv gig last night with two drummers, bass and guitar. Incredible.
In work, just going to put the head down and plug away for the day. Heading to a folk night tonight and looking forward to it.
Decent weekend. Wine Tasting and cheese + Burgers + Cocktails + Football. Lovely.
Trying to eat healthily and live clean at the moment, which I do very well in the week, and then totally fuck up at the weekend.
Good morning keith, mits, saps, meths, sheeldz, aphex, Jeremys_iron, sadpunk, Lo-Pan, epimer, CCB, desertshore, unfamilar and all.
If it keeps you on track during the week. Marathon not a sprint etc etc.
Mind you, I think I'm the fattest I've ever been, so probably shouldn't listen to me, eh.
and not just because 'fuck it it's the weekend' as well, then I figure I'll be ok. my average weekly calorie goal was still JUST under.
Were the cheese + burgers separate or did you have a cheeseburger? Trying to paint a mental picture here.
a cheese platter and a baked camambert at the wine tasting, then went an hour later for dinner, where I had a cheese and bacon burger with caramelised onions.
and sweet potato fries.
How's your ma's eye? (#SSP)
It's ok now. She was pretty annoyed about it, but it's getting better with some drops they gave her, so that's good.
Got nowt to say
Had such a fantastic weekend. It's made me realise that I was quite a bit unhappier than I thought I was and having a weekend where no one is being mean about the way you look/act/have feelings is actually quite a normal thing. How very strange!
At the start of our relationship my gf said to me "why do you keep thanking me for this stuff, it's just normal?" I wasn't used to someone just being nice to me.
You get conditioned.
you mustn't feel bad for having let stuff happen to you. the important thing is the future and the good stuff in it x
Lots of good things to come I reckon! xx
I spent such a long time feeling very self concious and insecure and now it's almost like I feel free? It's a weird but wonderful feeling! My mind is so relaxed right now and I feel amazing.
hope you don't mind
first day back, not really feeling it, think i need a few more hours in bed
had a pretty good weekend, spent Saturday in the sun at various breweries, before hanging out with some mates making our own beer, which was fun although I have no idea how it will all turn out.
Had to take a half day today because I've got a surprise job interview, I don't much about the role (copywriting) so I can't be too nervous. Might all be pie in the sky but might as well see what happens.
think I'm all set, what do you say if you get the classic "what's your biggest weakness?" question though? You can't really say "I care too much," can you?
you can then frame it in a light that you care so much about your work they'll lap that shit up
that my biggest weakness is that I'm a perfectionist and they framed that answer with, "do you think this would be a bit of a problem working in such a fast paced environment with deadlines?" I can't remember what I answered. But they may ask this if you're applying for a copywriting job where things need to get out/published etc.
I think with copywriting they may give you a test to complete or something.
Good luck though, and give some examples of situations you've been in in your past job role.
That didn't make much sense
said the best answer to that is that you don't suffer fools or you expect too much of those around you. It's supposed to show you'd manage a team well so probably doesn't apply to every job.
but I don't know shit.
But have since solved it with solution y.
e.g. I used to have some difficulties with keeping track of multiple short term deadlines, but since implementing a personal reminder system I've become much better at it.
Only less shit.
"I have a tendency to avoid questions I don't want to answer".
Ate and drank like an absolute king for pennies, can't get over how good and cheap everything was. Want nothing but salad and water for a week now, and also a bit of quiet, alone time.
Half a stone in 4 days, is that possible?!!
But the thought of half a stone inside me terrifies the crap out of me (not literally, unfortunately).
Pretty good weekend, Friday - friend and his fiancé came round for pizza and beer. Good times were had.
Saturday - fried breakfast, agents of shield, saw The Salvation (revenge western with Mads Mikkelsen), was entertaining. Then home made burgers and an early night.
Sunday - pottered around, finished watching the Sopranos (for first time), was good. Read comics, slept.
there's something i find very reassuring about dealing with geordie customer service people
I feel like it has pushed me to the edge of a precipice, I am so tearful and full of spite. thankfully my boyfriend (big BIG rangers fan) has been really great and kind about it.
On a more positive note, we got to hang out with s_a_d TWICE this weekend in between his gnome-army-competitioning, and then last night I bought a whippet called paddy in the pub for a fiver. (sold him back for a tenner, how does that work then?)
Did you get my text? Sorry i couldn't make it along.
We just went to the state for gins and rums. Wasn't a late one as I was floored by the events of the day and a bit cross and tearful/ in buying random dogs mode.
Professionally we saw some amazing new kit and got some great ideas that i cannot wait to action/buy, absolute information overload right enough. The technology is just amazing and moving so fast.
Personally a really good laugh, the chap i was away with is one of the very few people in the company i could spend that much time with.
Went to see elton john, he played an hour and a half of the hits, good fun.
Night after had a great night in downtown vegas (much more my kind of scene) to see the cribs, fucking great gig, kissed a pretty girl, cannot remember her name, ran up a huge drink bill on the company credit card buying drinks for everyone. Probably gonna get my balls toed.
Went for some nice meals, gambled and lost a few times. All good.
As for the c/c bill- that's just BD. (unless we're talking $$$kkkks?)
I found the food in vegas plentiful but rank (I think I was going to all the wrong places).
...but our $350 meal for two at spago may raise an eyebrow or two! :)
Lovely weekend thanks. Saturday: visited my gfs sister and 2 week old nephew which was great. Went to Camden to watch the football. Also watched The Voices which was good; really dark and weirdly funny.
Yesterday: Stayed in and had a mate over for the Liverpool game. Gf baked an incredible pie. Watched some more of Daredevil.
Today: Going to the gym for the first time in my life.
had a nice weekend back in Norwich then back for DiS football yesterday. Then started to move into my own room after a whole SIX MONTHS of not having one.
I spent most of the weekend drunk as a lord and watching sports. Apart from yesterday which I spent hungover and getting tricked into watching Annie. I should have known something nefarious was afoot when the tv went out and bought me a lemon cake for no reason.
Also made some slow cooked ribs and finished Arkham Origins. All in all a solid 7/10 weekend. Would weekend again.
I need more coffee.
first day back in the office after 2.5 months.
no fruit but I did find a caramel log. that should be fine, right?
Friday: went to a friends birthday ate a medium Texas style burgers and skin on chips.
Rest of the weekend: Meant to go to record store day but felt absolutely knackered after training. so I pottered around the house and watched the rest of the leaked GoT episodes, Mad Men and Frances Ha.
they were actually pretty overdone and dry I guess that could be 'Texas' style though.
Friday: Went to the Dover Castle with friends and then got some fish and chips in Fitzrovia. The Newman arm’s pie rooms have closed so couldn;t go there :’(
Saturday: Went on my scout group’s sponsored bridge walk. Was utter chaos in a fun way. Then watched Calvary (wow) and some other guff.
Sunday: Went for a walk with the GF around Nunhead Cemetery, which is way better than it sounds. Tried to get onto the reservoir for the view over London, but apparently there is a new fence there :(
Then went on miniature pub crawl of that end of peckha/nunhead- the Old Nun’s Head, Man of Kent, the rye and the White Horse. Got way too drunk for 6pm on a Sunday. Went home, played boardgames. So hungover...
Today: Gf going on holiday without me, so got no plans and the house to myself. What should I have to eat!?
year 7 sports day. My god, that was a good day.
I met Caroline Lucas yesterday. She's ace.
going to see some wonders of the natural world
Hopefully going bowling tomorrow, have a day of cinema at some point and maybe a cheeky pint or two in the afternoon.
A proud moment.
Went to Suffolk this weekend and some nice walk and met a lovely horse. My toe hurts. Went to a Japanese restaurant on Friday and shared a table with Leslie Ash, Lee Chapman and someone from The Apprentice.
What did you have?
It was kind of trendy fake Japanese stuff. The dishes were small but delicious. I had yellowtail sashimi tostada, aubergine, hand dived roasted scallop with chilli miso butter, korean friend wings and green beans with sesame ponzu. But the best part was the dessert; kinako french toast with creamy green tea ice cream, here's a photo of me about to stroke it https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CC03vmmW0AEF0Rh.jpg:large
was that in Suffolk? I bloody love Sushi/Japanese. Come stay for a weekend, I'll cook one night, then the other we can go get all you can eat sushi.
Nah was in London at a place called Shackfuyu in Soho.
sounds like somewhere I should visit.
How you fixed for 2nd-3rd May?
There might be a gap between leaving this job and getting a new one (oh yeah I got offered a new job on Friday btw) so could visit then?
Yeah definitely! Just let me know! :)
So excellent that I've eaten there four times in the past couple of months.
look at pictures of alpacas. it's made my day.
Awesome weekend that featured setting up a gig (Aun at Cafe Oto), dashing up to the hockey club end of season dinner, getting up super early on Saturday to play in our league cup final (we won, 4-2, yay!), then back to London for Tim Anderson's Nanban residency at United Ramen (worth a trip - much better than UR's average fare), where we also picked up his book and he signed it for us.
Sunday started with a run that was further than I've ever run before (13.5km). Three weeks until the half-marathon now. I think I'm getting there. And then we had a huge family meal in Chinatown.
Her Parents gig this week and then our final matches of the hockey season on Saturday as we chase the treble. We have to play two matches in one day (in Reading!) if we want to win it.
New job's going okay too. Bye!
was very nice. very relaxing. too relaxing. struggling to unrelax.
how was the anal?
