if you let me pinch it and respond in the same way to the person who posted it on fb who's just had a baby
it's got a mohawk
nom nom nom
I can't believe the pope still does, he just says 'stop breeding like rabbits' which is basically saying 'married couples should stop having as much sex'. What year is this?
sorry I ended up looking at archaic religious views online again and it riles me up and makes me feel insecure about being a normal functioning person with a sex drive
basically using natural family planning methods
I didn't think of that. I knew that committed Catholics are only OK with sex in marriage but I figured if they also condemn contraception then in this day and age you're going to end up with tons of kids you can't support and a very difficult life. Sex is obviously about more than just reproduction.
My interest in this triggered when I read a quote from a Catholic priest from the mid 20th century who said married couples who wed and use contraception to avoid pregnancy is an act just a step away from prostitution. Which is obviously an abhorrent thing to say about people who have sex in a loving relationship.
for means other than producing more bloody kids are essentially whores.
just don't become a catholic.
don't get too caught up on what individual members of any faith say
The church's views (which are still awful) have moved on massively in recent years, and in any event, I don't think you can take any one priest's view as being wholly representative of doctrine.
Sorry, i have to vent somewhere because my ocd latches on to stuff like this and drives my anxiety up tenfold. When i speak to people about it i relax, my chest flutters have gone now!
If there's one thing that I'm sure could be v ocd inducing, it's stuff like this! The church can be so awful :(
say IVF and artificial conception is wrong which would be a lowering factor on birth rates
which would be completely overrun by the number of people who think that NFP exists.
without paying attention to all that stuff???
You only have a very short window each month. Love it when men try to tell us otherwise.
Unless you want to be able to have sex every day of the month, of course. it takes a bit of time for a owman to establish an ovulatory pattern, but you can predict very accurately now when a particular woman ovulates, and so long as you abstain within certain days of that (I can't remember exactly which), it's very reliable.
There is of course the hilarious joke-
what do call the couple who use the rhythm method of contraception?
But that was before women realised that base body temperature and cervical mucus viscoty and colour, and the position of the cervix against an inserted finger could all be used to accurately pinpoint ovulation by charting these changes for a few months. And if you can't be arsed with all that, there are pee-sticks you can use that will do it for you and tell you when to avoid and when you're safe.
How is NFP any different to using a condom anyway? It seems they oppose contraception because they see sex as a means of reproduction only and not pleasure/making 'love'? You're still going out of your way to avoid making kids.
are based on NFP involved still a degree of holding back, of responsibility and 'virtue' whereas condoms does not. Who knew?
I read about this not that long ago. it annoyed me bacsue a lot fo what they said about the science was really true and would be really useful for people who need to family plan, but can't use normal contraception for whatever reason (my old flatmate can't take the pill, seems to be allergic even to hyper allergenic condoms, and has a cervical issue which rules out the coil for her. It was her only way of not getting up the stick and it worked for her.)
However, what I object to is being told by a sissy virgin priest what is or what is not 'virtue'. The tone of all is just eurgh.
it's clear even the bible celebrates sex as a pleasurable act at points, that said, if it's just for reproduction does that mean foreplay is meant to be avoided too? surely going down on a woman isn't... oh i don't know, why am I even thinking about this. *sigh*
and supposed ot be. The sex ed I received at catholic school taught about foreplay and stuff like that. it was very progressive and better than the stuff I got later on when I moved to a non denom school.
THe rpblkem tis, they cannot articulate what they rally mean because it is conflicted and doesn't stack up against challenge- so they then say OH BUT YOU JUST NEED TO BELIEVE THAT WHAT WE ARE SAYGIN IS RIGHT, HAVE FAITH.
see the article I posted for an example.
*isn't meant to be something to be ashamed of
if you're using an app on an iphone to check your cycle and stuff to avoid getting pregnant, does that count as artificial contraception?
THey believe that the holding back for a few days a month proves that love isn't just physical (sigh) whereas with condoms, we're all at it like rabbits 365 days a year wwithout any degree of sexual responsibility.
Here, read this. It's a shame because some of it really resonates with me but this is undermined by the other bits which are pish and so judgey.
banging round the clock myself.. or a normal loving couple either. Heck, I don't just promiscuous people either, probably having more fun than the rest of us.
the idea that people aren't responsible enough to practice 'true love' and take things beyond physical attraction is very patronising. i know i love my gf but we dont bang all the time. i'm over thinking this still.
the global population's gonna peak in about 2060 and decline steadily thereafter. It's not going to increase exponentially. Rumours of planetary overpopulation (in a pure numbers sense) are exaggerated.
Hopefully we won't have done too much damage by the time Peak People happens though.
humanity is not going to turn into a many-thousand-light-year-wide-super-relativistic-expanding fleshball then?
My Easter has been ruined.
Enjoy your Easter Weekend at Reading etc. etc.
Inspired this article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24303537
Both Deutsche Bank and Deloitte (I think) predict that the long-term population trend is downwards from mid 21st Century onwards. And when you think about it - it just seems sensible. In `The West` birth rate per head is < 1. As nations develop, their birth rates slow owing to increased access to education/contraception. Rapidly expanding countries like Japan are purported to be experiencing `population crises`- only about 1 in 2 women in Japan at the moment are actually having children.
Or if you want all of this more bullishly put... http://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/magazine/the-overpopulation-myth
where almost everything is reused, but no pictures of UK/American/Australian suburbia, which eats up vast amounts of energy and resources. Good one team.
Which is why I don't trust David Attenborough.
at the moment about this, basically photos of the environmental impact we're all having on the world.
One of the most striking images was from, iirc, a slum in Mexico (? may have misremembered) where people are paid to collect rubbish which has about a 90% recycle rate compared with 20-30% in the "western" world. My mind was blown.
‘If our species had started with just two people at the time of the earliest agricultural practices some 10,000 years ago, and increased by one percent per year, today humanity would be a solid ball of flesh many thousand light years in diameter, and expanding with a radial velocity that, neglecting relativity, would be many times faster than the speed of light.’
is the stupidest thing I've read all week.
she appears to have started as just two people at the time of the earliest agricultural practices some 10,000 years ago, and increased by one percent per year.
that Gabor obviously proof-read the piece then thought "I've suggested my flesh ball will expand at more than the speed of light. I'd better put in a caveat about you-know relativity and shit, just so people don't think I'm an idiot."
they have their first child at the age of 41. And so it has to be a girl and then she has to get porked by her father in order to have another child (eventually) at the age of 29, assuming the dad makes it to 69 or 70.
Say that child is a boy, then he has to shag his mum so that she has another child at that ripe old age of 52. And that child will need to be a girl. So then her brother/father has to shag her so that she has a child at the age of 8? Or now is his own mother having another child at the age of 60?
It's all a bit disturbing. God knows how it all pans out from there.
Not strictly true.
a "mountain greenhouse". They cost a bit more but are worth it for the admiring looks you'll get from your neighbours.
really didn't agree with me. I wonder if that will change if I eat shitloads of them?
it's in the fish he eats
really didn't agree with me. I wonder if that will change if I eat shitloads of them?
The point stands.
it would have lived to a healthy old age?
Like ravens and crows.
looks like Jabba the Hut with a Mohawk.
a post about featureless Canadian terrain having a hairstyle that was my least original.
I've had to stop worrying or thinking bout this sort of stuff.
Dont really know why pictures will help? its been known bout for ages and little effort made when there was more room to manouver to correct behaviours and trends, now there is less option
careful, you may make me start to rant again.
