Side for me as I was born bad to the bone.
Imagine having none. Imagine!
or man servant if you prefer
And I know you didn't ask this but I have Tasks and Calendar in the right hand pane.
Big fan of Tasks, me.
It's currently telling me I have 81 tasks to do today. 81! Fuck off tasks pane, you're not my real dad.
on so many levels.
and quicksteps, I don't know what they are but they must be chumpy.
Tasks are the business.
Quicksteps are amazing.
You are a fool.
why haven't you done this yet and then I do it. No one really wants anything unless they ask for it twice.
Looked like Jasper from The Simpsons.
As if I'd let my email client dictate to me when an item is "read" or not. Come the fuck on, guys.
(I am aware that you can turn that feature off, but still.)
Previewing at the bottom would be literally insane!
I mean I change the size a lot depending on what I'm reading.
I obviously get shed loads of code and log file snippets and you want those as wide as possible. You already have the sidebar or navigation tree.
and do the same on your desktop.
except sometimes I stop for a bit and then forget to do everything in the "to do" folder =(
then annotate it, scan in and forward back to the sender as a PDF.
Just like the olden days.
You still see you have a new email, who it's from/what its subject is. That's enough info for me to tell if it's bullshit from the off, it mostly is.
The rare ones I will open I give the respect of their own window and at least ten seconds reading time.
- Sending people a meeting request, then having them run up to your desk at some later date and asking how on earth you added something to their diary!!
- Adding customised voting buttons to an email. Much hilarity to be had there. Don't think that's an option any more :(
when you send them an email from your work account while away on holiday.
Oh Outlook, so many laughs, so many great memories!
Just ignores a lot of emails if the subject line worries him. We've tried to tell him to use a preview but he gets quite stressed just talking about it.
in the inbox.
and you have a panic attach just thinking about it
I have important and template folders and a team mailbox....and 3000 emails in my inbox
if so, congrats on being the most organised in your team
11,697 emails. 55 unread.
I guess that's Friday's morning's task for me.
All those folders he must have in his inbox must be a nightmare.
"Wait, the email's here. Hang on, no not this folder...yeah...nope, it must be in THIS folder because I think I received it on a Tuesday.
Shit, was I wearing a red shirt that day? Let me check.
Got it! Was a Tuesday, I was wearing a red shirt and I had a burger for lunch."
I also have... 507 unread emails in my inbox.
Unless you are one of those people who's CC'd into any old shit, I guess.
should auto-read and have 'em chucked into different folders really but i cba
just marked them all as "read"
re: where are the books again
Thanks for letting me know.
and the ability to organise by name or subject, as well as the standard groupings by date.
do you work in a situ where key phrases will always distinguish things well enough from each other
I work in software support. Pretty much anything relevant has a job number (often two or three), all work streams mostly by person so a few relevant people for any subject, and I'm also great at working out what the key words would be for any email chain to get he required detail, especially when I tend to work out the dates.
it would never, ever work here
I get multiple spreadsheets filtering through called things like "1.xls" in emails with no subject or just something like "DEV". And I get generic requests for inspections written in the email equivalent of grunting, referring to a colloquial or irregular project name, and which don't even come close to acknowledging the project reference code.
But that's fine. Cos I've got those fuckers on lockdown.
Nowt wrong with a search function as a fallback. And folders do nothing to prevent search being an option. But search functions as a first port of call is the methodology of people who can't hold their shit together. As we established in an old OS GUI thread on here.
Good thing we don't share Outlooks eh Fidel? YET
I need to sift through loads of emails to delete and keep but I'm just not going to. I've become
some weird hoarder of emails that might need keeping
I've never deleted an email from anyone in work. I can, within seconds, find out when anyone's brought in cakes for any reason going back to mid-2009.
Or is that just the default if you go with 'none'?
Search bar finds me anything I want though. Seems fine.
my place of work still uses outlook (well, office) 2003. and windows xp. in 2015.
they've JUST started rolling out windows 8.
This is one of the biggest employers in York ffs
No preview, no problems
Got thousands of emails in my inbox, luckily Google is pretty good at searching...
Had a zero inbox and MY FILING TECHNIQUE WAS UNSTOPPABLE. No auto-archive, thank you very much: I'll be the judge of EXACTLY what goes where and when. The enterprise vault thing that doesn't add things to the vault fast enough to keep the inbox size low enough meaning that you have to delete loads of stuff that you end up being too refer to later? Not a problem when I was ruling my email with a iron fist. was unequivocally WINNING AT EMAIL.
BUT... we had the long awaited IT refresh yesterday. I exported and imported the archive.pst file. But, for some apparently unsolveable reason Outlook, or the new permissions, won't allow me to add any new emails to it.
So my archive is basically a read-only frozen moment in time, and I'm currently in a state of fear and trepidation about the chaos slowly unfurling within my inbox.
(Oh, and side, officially.)
We have ours so that when you get an email from someone you see their photo in the top right which is really exciting when you get an email from some new hot chick in one of the Euro offices as you can try and work out who you want to bang at the Christmas party.
everything stored, flagged or deleted as appropriate
personal gmail: 3,183 unread
No message preview, no reading pane.
List of emails sorted by date BUT without a column for date sent.
Zero unread emails
Zero utterly pointless folders. It's over GUYZ
No need to archive as more than enough space on hosted server.
Currently operate on a one reply for every forty emails received basis
or do you just wait for forty emails to arrive then pick one at random to reply to?
I'm a fucking maverick, aggy
on the side, people always comment on my hundreds of 'unread' emails but the preview pane makes opening emails pointless
