Has anything happened? Is anything happening?
The Netherlands are playing against Turkey
Should be fairly easy qualifying now despite Belgium looming overhead.
If Ramsey, Vokes, Ledley, Ben Davies etc all keep improving we could have a half decent shout not to be terrible on paper. Which is sad because they'll still be using the Tottenham 2012-13 tactic of relying on Bale hammering in the free kicks. Actually I can't even pretend to care about that, it's just amazing we're in the running at all. Less than ten years ago Israel would've utterly tonked us.
and don't want to be overly sentimental, but kinda get the impression from the outside looking in that Gary Speed's tenure was a sort of turning point. There are probably other reasons, like Swansea's rise to being a steady top-flight club, and the relative freak of a couple of real top players coming through, but although his record on paper was quite average, idk, got the impression it kind've kickstarted something, not unlike Wise Roy has with England.
I'd ruddy love to see the other home nations get to some Finals, Wales particularly.
Think you know which of the two has put on the most weight since retiring? You may be surprised!
Fans say that us signing Ali Benarbia was the turning point to us going all tiki-taka under Keegan and getting promoted, but it was just as much down to Berkovic. He was magic on his day. Scored some crackers, set up loads, beautiful weight of pass. Top lad. I mean, sure, he threatened to slit a couple of fans throats and left the club under a cloud, but his throughballs were unreal!
a golden age
Always a real danger he'd go missing if someone steamed into him early on, but when he was up for it he could decide games with a handful of touches. Great technique and vision.
and climb out of the relegation zone having been there pretty much all season. Jeff Stelling last seen exploding with excitement.
Croatia can be had at 40/1 to win the tournament in 2016, which is an absolute belter of a price
Very simply, can they win it? The answer's obviously no.
two of the best midfielders in Europe, none of the traditional big boys looking too good atm. Obviously not likely to win it (I'd go for France) but worth definitely worth a fiver at those odds
should be an interesting tie in possibly the most interesting group
If this was a 16 team Euros they'd be pretty fucked at this point. As it is, they should still scrape a playoff spot even if they can't catch the Czechs or Iceland.
but there should be some spicy playoffs
had Huntelaar and Sneijder both to score and Holland to score last. Sneijder's shot deflected in off Huntelaar so SkyBet have decided to pay out on anyone who had either to score. Since i had both i got paid out on both players scoring even though it was only one goal. Pretty sweet deal.
in response to being asked about United.
I think Di Maria is psychologically shot, and heavily rumoured to want out. would be a terrible shame, but if we could recoup two thirds of the fee, bring Bale in, that'd be alright.
more of a classically United-style player, anyway, and though Di Maria on form is smarter and more skillful, I don't think Bale's supposed greediness and tactical ineptitude would be an issue.
I wouldn't write him off yet. We're playing a formation now, where there is a clear role for him, and he'll muscle out Ashley Young as left wing forward when he gets a chance. On an absolute mare, he's still our most productive player, so God knows how effective he'll be when he hits his stride.
That said, I'd swap him for Bale.
Feel I should say more........
Ronaldinho at the Bernabeu in 05-06, fat ronaldo at old trafford in the champions league are the first two that come to mind. Countless Messi games aswell obviously
Incredible, even the Real fans were applauding him
he was a hell of a footballer
we have to win to win the league, Gazza single handedly destroys aberdeen, hat trick! Fucking love you Gazza.
but aside from those mentioned, Beckham vs Greece
to get a draw against shite opposition?
it's a hell of a moment, but hard to consider it one of the all time great performances
the defining game of his England career. And the sort of performance that none of the other (more talented) midfielders of that generation ever really put in for us.
but he was the best player on the pitch by a mile before the free kick
the free kick was the crowning glory. before that he was everywhere, virtually a one man show
when I scored against Newcastle in 1999. BOOOFT belter
At times he seemed to be playing Greece by himself.
Christ did he terrorise them with his penalties
Northern Ireland - Finland (2015)
Zidane against everyone in the headbutt WC year.
Right down to the headbutt it was the perfect end for him
perfect mix of technical ability, running around a lot, and having a real cunty side to them. good lads
I basically mean Gary Medel. #Pray4Neymar
...one of whom is Alan Hutton. Really? Fucking hell guys.
Trips himself up and then does an elbowdrop/backflip onto a Gibraltar Player's head. Nice.
Always worth a laugh.
How can you be that good for your country but otherwise be a total liability
Three home games left, and one of the away games is against the Faroe Islands.
England will have to wait until the older players can be replaced with clones of Hazza Kane in 2020.
of their qualification campaign so far.
England do have the shittest group by far which helps
