We're not America! They should teach THAT in schools, yeah.
compared to the only other schools available at the time, which were open to monks or members of the clergy or something.
Until the late medieval period most schools were controlled by the church and had specific entrance criteria; others were restricted to the sons of members of guilds, trades or livery companies. The need for professional trades in an increasingly secularised society required schools for the sons of the gentry that were independent from ecclesiastical authority and open to all. From the 16th century onward, boys' boarding schools were founded or endowed for public use.
A crazy motherfucker named marckee
From a website which values pedantry
When he's called off, he'll correct you
With some info with citations to prove it's true
of web knowledge
Now hear him lecture on Brutalist architecture
"you know how there arnt all those church schools anymore, the ones that the public cant get into? so why do people still call schools (that happen to be the most difficult for the general public to get into) public schools, when the name is no longer needed to distinguish them, and in fact makes the opposite sense of their nature from what they are?"
Is that any better?
Why? when it ceased to be needed, did they not change their descriptor, especially when there is good reason too....i.e. to make common sense of reality?
common sense talk and names and descriptors
incomprehensible world we live in.

We call the likes of CG a public school wanker, it's just what he is. You can't mess with stuff like that.
