Captain Unnecessary Maths Problem
and what is it that they did (as a group)? that we cannot see being done by people today?
have you ever made an original statement? done any eco terrorism? organised any protests? compromised your career? directly aided people (off your own bat, not through texting to an advertised number)
Have you ever lived communally and after spending what you need donating the remainder of your earnings to a pot for whoever is there?
Because many people born before 1962 will have done.
Such stupid separation of groups as scapegoats is part of the same problem which helps fuck the planet.
poor understanding that leads you to blame a group that does not include people post 1962
with everyone in a thread, without having to contend with your surrealism :D
No, nor do I wish to.....was it nice?
the year before, the year before etc etc
Since I started doing this before 1980, I think I can get a bit annoyed
Your trees wouldn't have grown without the beneficial effects that Icebucket Challenges in gardens had on the world's water table.
earlier, rather than allowing me to blurt on and on
Back to your Werther's Originals, slippers and whatever it is you fossils do....fisting
Seems pretty mean and unwarranted.
"if someone else (CG?) posted this, they'd be getting a banning"
Anyone who honestly think this is like worse than Hitler.
Not because I'm massively offended (I've posted on here for far too long to be offended about things). I'm just sure that other people have posted stuff like this on DiS and have been given the "you need a bit of time out, mate" treatment from fidel.
so I've come on here to have an argument with everyone I can........jesus, no pleasing some......you dull sluggard. (sorry Bamos, I know that was a phrase I coined for you)
I also think one potential reason why DiS is quiet is because it's like a fucking nanny state half the time, treading on eggshells.
(sorry creaky, I just wanted to say 'nanny state' because I couldn't be bothered typing out 'political correctness gone maaaaad' ;)
that makes sense, as does PO's post. No beeves intended :)
do not allow yourself to kneejerk your reactions according to just wordsearch like triggers.
Try to introduce a level of sophistication into your analysis of the world.
I guess I'd better watch my step. it wouldn't even occur to me that using the word Nazi in a derogatory way would be taken to trivialise the holocaust.
mass extremism has its birth in somewhat more mundane attitudes.
This is a serious seeming response to an original deliberately hyperbolic use of the word.
Every day I witness trivialising of words and concepts, in buckets on here and other media.
I also witness trivialisation of concepts and argument.....were I to pull people up on all of this then I would be guilty of being overly authoritarian, rather living and let live.
If you like we can try to forge a pureness of speech.....(Im all for it as an experiment) but you must be rigorous and thorough.
is literally worse than the holocaust
insist on a casual dress code and you will have moved a little bit towards totalitarianism....yes it is trivialisation in a way, but how do you think such things come about? little by little.
rather than just hate all nazis, it is more constructive to hate and combat the influences and creative forces of facism and totalitarianism
(this has got all rather serious....It was meant to be a light hearted wry observation.....but I was suprised that someone should mention trivialisation of genocide, when All I had done was to apply a hyperbolic description to an attitude that while it may seem innocuous DOES actually have possibly more sinister implications if it gains more widespread sort of appeal)
I come back for the first time in ages because I'm bored sitting out my last week in work, and somehow end up ganging up on someone with (presumably) a bunch of people I don't even know.
you'd better all come packed, cos I will be
and I spell according to my own aesthetic, because I am a punk...(as well as goth) and also an artist.
I'm more bewildered by why some people want to have others dressed in a particular manner, its probably the same impulse as drives people to dress up their dogs.
I'm 31, and I'm pretty sure from the tenor of my opening post you know I'm not exactly defending either position on this, even if I seem to be stuck on the boring side. I'm no more attacking your right to dress than a Gap advert.
makes more sense now.
my eldest sister, who's fourty-one, used to be in Greenpeace and was a practising Wiccan and stuff, but now she's borderline Tory and also believes that the universe is this force that people can influence by being more positive, which is basically widespread victim-blaming.
more people with your unyielding conviction, please.
very dubious isn't it
it's a weird cosmic extension of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, with the implication that, say, a stillborn baby is fated thus because its mother wasn't being positive. or the victims of a mass murderer weren't thanking the universe for all the times they weren't murdered. etc.
and she had a go at me because I'm a determinist? oh man.
impossible to reason with her - she actually kicked my sister out of the car for trying.
I get that she's just trying to find some inherent order to things to salve her worries, just like religious folks, but I wish she'd have read and swallowed wholesale a book on a less nasty world view.
