Which of you lot are only children?
Just doing some research.
Surprisingly easy to guess who has siblings and who doesn't. More challenging but achievable is number and gender of siblings.
can spot most of 'em a mile off though.
when it's not even clear if malevolent AIs can count as only children =(
I'm not. I think everyone should have a younger sibling to bully.
denying they're only children.
apart from being rubbish at sharing?
because the parents have clearly decided against any more.
that you know some lovely only children?
they are mostly a bit spoilt and self-absorbed
the lot of 'em.
It taught me to highly value anything that I could call my own, and fight viciously to prevent any cunt from taking it.
would give an outside chance of an older sister tho
Loads of people having kids later, nigh on impossible to buy big houses, everyone getting divorced at the drop of a hat rather than slogging it out in misery for years.
I'm one of 5. Fuck that for a laugh.
unrelatedly, i went to the pub with my brother last night. almost had an actual honest conversation with him. made me wonder if im much different to an only child
The birthrate is going to fall on its ARSE in this country over the next 15 years.
Me and my fiancée have wanted kids for years. Now we're umm-ing and arr-ing about it. And it's pretty much purely an economic decision. Moving out of London isn't an option really either so... yeah. It's all pretty rotten.
Add to that the fact that the number of people who are like `I'm NEVER having kids` has gone mental over the last decade and... yeah. Think you're gonna see a birthrate of 1.2 per couple sooner or later.
Said I never would, but maybe I should have got my arse in gear earlier.
I'm less concerned about the lad not having a companion. Most mid 30s blokes are pretty childlike anyway. Don't recall anyones Dad still skateboarding or caning us all at Street Fighter when we were lads.
Means I like to spend a lot of time on my own. Otherwise I think I am quite normal.
She did let me play megadrive in her room on sunday mornings though, cheers sis.
Without ever doing anything.
I'm kind of a pseudo only child, I have an older brother who kind of tormented me growing up (I'm being harsh it was probably just me being hypersensitive) to the point where I even went to different schools to get away from him, so I never really knew him since I was a kid as I kept myself and my family totally separate. Then he became schizophrenic and the person he was has completely gone, it is weird gradually losing someone like this, there is a weird role reversal in that I am the younger one but he now kind of has the younger role due to being more vulnerable etc. I wasn't able to relate to him when he was well and even less able now which is an immense source of guilt. Probably not relevant to an only child thread but I do feel like one.
but the wife is, and the child is (and my dad is).
All wonderful people.
Not having any more kids for a lot of the boring reasons like being too old, want to live in a decent part of town where I can't afford a big house, and also it is often awful.
That said, I find the concept of comparing people just for this reason a bit odd. An onlyh child in a little village, not many friends around and in a bit of a bubble - probably weird.
An only child in a city with people everywhere, millions of possible friends around and endless stimuli - probably super cool.
so everyone can cope if one of them dies was pretty. :'(
but yeah, only child here and no plans for a sibling for the girl so far. Who knows, though, eh?
they don't have to die but it would be a comfort to have someone to share the worry of what's happening to the other one (in whatever combination that comes up through the years)
I guess really good friends can do that too, but for most people, no one really knows you as well as your siblings do
but everyone dies.
that's why it's always such a shock
but with someone he's already broken up with.
That must be pretty rough.
As normally a dad would pay sixty odd percent of his wages, would it get broken down so they all get like ten percent each?
a whole lot easier!
Also wanted my kids to experience sibling fun like kicking each other in the face, being sick on each other in the back of the car, staying in the bathroom so long your teenage sister wets herself. That kind of thing.
dont want the boy to be either for all of Slicky's reasons but also I paid fucking loads for that travel system, nursery furniture etc it will be used for an extended period of time!!11
