I would do it anyway, or if I was asking their permission. Probably the latter in most instances. Actually, always the latter, because I wouldn't use the term otherwise

I started reading this out loud and broke in to song.
but not because of the 'it's 'texted'!' nonsense but because visually the question mark makes it look confrontational

if the context is more 'unless you have any objections' then no question mark
